South Korea soccer star Son Heung-min to leave Tottenham Hotspur
The announcement from the 33-year-old, a national hero in South Korea, comes amid reports that he could move to Major League Soccer in the United States.
Speaking to reporters in Seoul before a preseason friendly game against Newcastle United, Son said: 'Before we start the press conference, I wanted to say I have decided to leave the club this summer. Respectfully the club is helping me with this decision.'
Calling it 'the most difficult decision I have made in my career,' the forward explained: 'I need a new environment to push myself. I need a little bit of change – 10 years is a long time.'
'I came to North London as a kid, 23 years old, such a young age. I leave this club as a grown man, a very proud man.'
Since joining Spurs from Germany's Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, Son has scored 173 goals in 454 matches, forming a formidable strike partnership with England legend Harry Kane, who he eventually succeeded as club captain. He was joint top scorer in the Premier League during the 2021-22 season, when he and Liverpool's Mo Salah both scored 23 times.
In May, he lifted the Europa League trophy after Spurs beat Manchester United in the final.
A sporting icon in South Korea, Son has scored 51 goals in 134 matches for the national team, becoming the country's most high-profile athlete ever.
New Spurs coach Thomas Frank, speaking at the same press conference, hailed Son as 'a true Spurs legend in every aspect, one of the greatest players to play in the Premier League.'

Leicester: Wilfred Ndidi undergoing medical this Thursday at Besiktas
After several years at Leicester, the Nigerian midfielder is set to continue his career in Turkey. Leicester: Wilfred Ndidi undergoing medical this Thursday at Besiktas Wilfred Ndidi is undergoing his medical this Thursday, August 7, 2025, in Istanbul with Besiktas. The Nigerian defensive midfielder is leaving Leicester City to join the Turkish club in a permanent transfer worth €9.5 million. An agreement between the two clubs was reached earlier this week. The 28-year-old is about to start a new chapter in his career after eight seasons in England. The Super Eagles defensive midfielder landed in Turkey today to finalize his move to Besiktas. The Black Eagles' management triggered a release clause in the player's contract to seal a deal that had been dragging on for several weeks. The Nigerian international, who has 62 caps, is set to sign a three-year contract with an option for a fourth season. This signing marks a major investment for Besiktas, who are counting on Ndidi's European experience to bolster their midfield. A product of KRC Genk, Ndidi joined Leicester in January 2017 and became one of the team's key pillars.

It was a good day for the Commanders offensive tackles
Jayden Daniels was apparently forced to move out of the pocket several times on Wednesday. The Washington Commanders were without left guard Brandon Coleman, recovering from a foot injury, which left him limping last weekend in practice. Coach Dan Quinn said early Wednesday that it is nothing serious, yet as a precaution, the Commanders kept Coleman off the scrimmage field on Wednesday. The Commanders thus started Laremy Tunsil (LT), Andrew Wylie (LG) Tyler Biadasz (C), Nick Allegretti (RG) and Josh Conerly (RT). Following the joint scrimmage, Mitchell Tischler of Monumental Sports reported that Tunsil had a good day, including one play where he locked up a Patriot linebacker and drove him off the playing field. On another play, he locked up a lineman and drove him down into the ground, showing he's not a bad run-blocker either. Good news for Commanders fans? Tischler says that the news of the offense was that Josh Conerly really had a good scrimmage. Conerly is Washington's first-round choice out of Oregon, drafted 28th overall. Conerly was playing at right tackle on Wednesday and came to play. Tischler said Conerly stood up well in one-on-one drills and working against edge rusher Harold Landry. This is very encouraging if Conerly is ready to go early in the season at right tackle. A key figure will be Wylie because of his flexibility to start at either tackle or guard when needed. Sam Cosmi, recovering from his ACL tear in January, might result in Wylie starting at right guard. Tischler also said of the four units (Patriots offense, Patriots defense, Commanders offense, Commanders defense), clearly the best of the four was the Commanders offense, and had this been an actual game, the Commanders would have been scoring several times. Barring injury, the Commanders this season could have two 2024 starters (Wiley and Allegretti) being reserves on the line for the 2025 team. Two 2024 starters providing depth and breathers for 2025 starters is good news. This article originally appeared on Commanders Wire: It was a good day for the Commanders offensive tackles
