Three sisters drown while bathing in river Rapti, bodies recovered
: The bodies of three young girls who drowned while bathing in the Rapti River were recovered on Wednesday afternoon by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local police. The drowning took place on Tuesday evening in Mirhiriya village, under the Campierganj police station area of Gorakhpur district. The victims have been identified as Arfeen,16, and Sabreen ,14, who were sisters, and their cousin Naziya,12,. All three were residents of the same village.
According to officials, four girls two sisters and their two cousins had gone to the riverbed to collect clay for plastering the walls of their house ahead of the Bakrid festival. After collecting the clay, they decided to take a bath in the river. However, they ventured too deep into the water, leading to the tragic drowning.
Circle officer Gaurav Kumar Tripathi stated that recent moderate rainfall had increased the river's current, contributing to the incident. One of the girls, Sakeena ,25, cousin of the deceased Naziya, was rescued by villagers after she cried for help. Local fishermen who heard her screams rushed to the scene, but by the time they arrived, it was too late to save the other three. The SDRF divers launched an intensive search operation and successfully recovered all three bodies.

Ten days have passed since newlywed couple from Indore – Raja Raghuwanshi (30) and Sonam Raghuwanshi (27), who came to rain-soaked hills of Sohra (Cherrapunji) for their honeymoon – went missing, and still there is no sign of them. The search operation for them is still underway as about 50 individuals consisting of police personnel, SDRF teams as well as local villagers are searching in the dangerous cliffs and forests for the newlywed couple near Shillong, the officials said. In addition, K9 sniffer dogs and drones have been deployed to locate them in difficult to reach areas. Meanwhile, the Meghalaya government is mulling to call in paramilitary forces to assist in the search for the missing couple. 'We are contemplating to call in rescuers from paramilitary forces to trace the couple," East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem told news agency PTI. The family has also announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for anyone who comes up with information about their whereabouts. How The Couple Went Missing? Raja was a 30-year-old transport businessman, who had married Sonam merely weeks ago. The duo embarked on their honeymoon on May 20, where Guwahati was their first stop. The couple arrived in Mawlakhiat village on May 22 on a rented scooter. They trekked over 3,000 steps down the gorge to visit the famous living root bridges in Nongriat village, where they stayed the night, according to police. On May 23, the family last heard from them. The family members said that the mobile phones of the couple were switched off after their last conversation. The fear turned into panic when the couple's rented scooter was found abandoned near Osara Hills in Sohra Rim — a far-off area known to be dangerous and linked to criminal activity. Two of their bags were later found partly hidden in bushes inside a nearby gorge on last week. The places where their scooter, bags, and last tea stop were found are far apart, making the situation even more puzzling. The authorities are now narrowing down their search near a gorge close to the Root Bridge, nearly 50 km from the capital city of Meghalaya. Madhya Pradesh MPs Shankar Lalwani and Sumer Singh Solanki reviewed the rescue operations with DGP I Nongrang and Chief Secretary DP Wahlang, and expressed satisfaction with the efforts. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has assured that the state machinery is doing everything to trace the couple and he is personally monitoring the operation. However, due to heavy rains across the North Eastern Region and more so in Sohra for the entire past week has made it difficult for teams to move forward or go deeper into forests, near streams and various trekking routes. Earlier this year, Hungarian tourist Puskas Zsolt went missing soon after he started his trek to the living roots bridge. His body was found dead 12 days later. Medical reports indicated that he died due to a fall. The state government has issued a slew of safety advisories for tourists in view of the bad weather conditions. The Shillong-Dawki road, where construction work is underway, has temporarily been closed. Jaipur/Jaisalmer/Jodhpur: Mock drills simulating drone and aerial attacks were held across Rajasthan, including the border districts, as part of the second statewide civil defence blackout and mock exercise under 'Operation Shield'. Civil defence teams recreated a scenario where a drone suddenly "attacked" people in a crowded market. Civil defence and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams arrived promptly, evacuated the injured, and transported them to hospitals. Cranes were used to rescue people trapped on rooftops. Police teams visited homes and shops in advance, asking people to switch off lights, and by 8.15pm, many residents complied. People were instructed to stay indoors, avoid using lights or mobile phones, and cover windows with black paper. Vehicle lights were also to be turned off. Residents were urged to remain calm, follow official instructions, and identify the nearest shelter in case of an emergency. Similar exercises were conducted in Barmer, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Jodhpur, and Sriganganagar. A large-scale mock drill simulating aerial attacks was held Saturday evening at the Jaisalmer Military Station and Uttarlai Air Force complex in Barmer. Meanwhile, a similar drill unfolded at Uttarlai Air Force School in Barmer. A hotline message alerted the Civil Defence control room at 6pm about a mock drone strike. District Collector Tina Dabi activated all depts, which quickly launched rescue operations. The fire caused by the simulated attack was brought under control. Both Tina Dabi and SP Narendra Meena reviewed the drill and said the coordinated response would help improve emergency preparedness. In Jodhpur, the second mock drill was conducted at Kundal Air Base in Phalodi at 7.30pm to assess preparedness for handling airstrikes or other emergency situations.

The award ceremony was held on May 29 near the Russian-Ukrainian border in the presence of military commanders, the company said in a statement. 'Fores has delivered on its earlier promise to transfer 15 million rubles to members of the Russian Armed Forces for downing the first F-16 in the special military operation zone,' the statement read. Fores did not specify how or when the aircraft was brought down, but media reports have linked the incident to the crash of a Ukrainian F-16A/B on March 13, 2025, over Russian-occupied territory. While Russian sources claim the jet was downed by an S-400 air defence system or an R-37 missile fired by a Russian fighter, Ukraine has said the aircraft may have been accidentally hit by one of its own air defence missiles during an attempt to intercept Russian jets.
