Leipzig player misses Bundesliga game after being late for bus - World
Leipzig defender El Chadaille Bitshiabu missed his team's Bundesliga match at Augsburg because he was late for the bus.
Leipzig coach Marco Rose told broadcaster DAZN before Friday's 0-0 draw that Bitshiabu was supposed to be in the squad, but the 19-year-old French defender failed to show up in time for the team's bus to the airport that morning.
'Chad missed the departure this morning and therefore also the flight,' Rose said. 'So you can't be there at the end of the day either.'
Bitshiabu could have arguably have made the game traveling by bus. Leipzig is roughly four hours from Augsburg by road, and the match had a late kickoff.
Bitshiabu, who has made 11 league appearances this season for Leipzig, had good chances of playing in Augsburg with captain Willi Orban suspended for his red card against St. Pauli the week before, and Benjamin Henrichs, Xaver Schlager, Assan Ouedraogo and Antonio Nusa all out with injuries.
Rose only had six outfield players available as substitutes, with one seat on the substitutes' bench left free because of his shortage of players.
Serbian right back Kosta Nedeljković went on to make his Leipzig debut late on.
The draw in Augsburg meant Stuttgart could overtake Leipzig on Saturday with a win at home over Wolfsburg to move fourth, the last place for Champions League qualification.

Manchester City concluded a $150 million spending spree ahead of the Club World Cup by announcing the signing of Netherlands midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan on Wednesday. Add this latest splurge to an outlay of more than $200 million in the winter transfer window and City has already spent at least $350 million on players in 2025 to provide manager Pep Guardiola with a squad capable of reclaiming the Premier League title from Liverpool. Breakthrough season Reijnders has just been named as the best midfielder in Serie A after a breakthrough campaign in which he scored 15 goals and added five assists across all competitions for Milan, which endured a dismal season and failed to qualify for Europe. He joined Milan from AZ Alkmaar in 2023 for a fee of around 20 million euros (then $22.4 million) and recently signed a contract extension through to June 2030. That's the length of his contract at City, too. City is releasing De Bruyne to end his 10-year stint at the club and now has Reijnders and Cherki to link up with Rodri in an enticing midfield set-up. Reijnders said he was 'ecstatic' to be joining City. 'It is also a dream come true to play in the Premier League,' he said. 'This league has seen many of the best Dutch players perform through the years and it's an inspiration to follow in their footsteps.' City director of football Hugo Viana said Reijnders — who specializes in being a ball-carrying midfielder — will add 'extra energy, composure and creativity to our midfield.' City announced the transfer of Reijnders a day after the special transfer window closed but appears to have signed him in time for him to play in the new-look, 32-team Club World Cup, which starts on Saturday. Barbora Krejcikova's preparations for her Wimbledon title defence suffered a major setback as the Czech crashed to a shock defeat against Rebecca Sramkova at Queen's Club on Tuesday. Ahly target winning all games at Club World Cup: Moroccan defender Dari
Ahly will open their campaign in the first match of FIFA's newly expanded 32-team tournament against the US outfit Inter Miami in Miami on Sunday. 'We are preparing strongly for the World Cup confrontations with full concentration. We arrived early in the USA and adapted quickly to the atmosphere,' Dari told the club's official website late on Monday. 'We train well and work hard to win all games. The opening match will be a strong one, and we should be at full concentration to win,' he added. Ahly have been drawn in Group A alongside Palmeiras (Brazil), FC Porto (Portugal), and Inter Miami (USA). Dari said that Ahly is focusing on all the group games, adding that every match has its own circumstances, stressing that winning the opening game will be a big boost ahead of next games.
