Aberdeen University equestrian team saddle up after qualifying for finals
And the four-strong riding team for Aberdeen University have their sights set high for the event – after becoming the only Scottish team to qualify.
Kiera Mordue, president of Aberdeen University Equestrian Club, said: 'It was totally unexpected, we didn't even expect to make it to regionals.
'We just said to each other we're just going to have a good time, but then when we got to the prize giving and they were reading out the names and then Aberdeen was first!' STV News
Riders will compete in dressage and showjumping, but the format of a BUCS competition slightly differs from other equestrian competition, with riders using horses that are provided by event organisers.
They don't ride their own.
It adds another level of complexity, but the team says one of Aberdeen's riding schools, Hayfield Riding Centre, has helped them train for every eventuality.
Abi Smith who rides for the team explained: 'At Hayfield we ride lots of different horses which we're grateful for.
'You can get such a big variety of horses provided for events, both big and small so our training here has been invaluable.'
It's the first time the Aberdeen University team has qualified for ten years, and it's hoped their recent success will attract more people to the club.
Annabel Buchan added: 'It would be great if people see this and want to come and join us, we're quite a small club at the moment.
'We're hoping to do Scotland proud, which is a lot of pressure but we're going to the event to have fun.'
On Thursday, the team from the north east will face some of the UK's top riders.
It's one university challenge they're hoping to win.

Celtic star shares adorable throwback pic of him in his first Hoops kit that ‘he wanted to wear all the time'
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) IT'S every kid's dream to one day play for the team you support as a youngster. It's a dream that's become a reality for one current Celtic star. Sign up for the Celtic newsletter Sign up 4 The Celtic star shared the throwback pic Credit: INSTAGRAM/@CELTICFC 4 Luke McCowan took part in a fans' Q&A Credit: INSTAGRAM/@CELTICFC 4 McCowan is now living the dream at Parkhead Credit: Kenny Ramsay Luke McCowan grew up a huge Hoops fan and just a few years ago, pulling on the green and white hoops for real would've still seemed a rather unlikely ambition. The midfield ace was plucked from local football by Ayr United as a 19-year old in 2017. He was famously still working as a lifeguard at a local leisure centre in Greenock before landing his professional contract. McCowan enjoyed a breakout year at Somerset Park in the 2019/20 season and landed a big move to the Scottish Premiership with Dundee in 2021. A stellar campaign in the 2023/24 season saw him strike 10 goals from midfield and he landed his dream move to Parkhead the following year. McCowan went on to score seven goals in 41 games across all competitions as Celtic won a league and cup double. He also struck a dramatic late winner on the opening day of this season as the champions beat St Mirren 1-0. Having grown up a Hoops fan, he's very much now living his boyhood dream. And while he now pulls on the Celts kit for real every week, he's shared a throwback pic from more than TWENTY years ago when those ambitions very much were a distant dream. McCowan took part in a Q&A on Celtic's social media channels and one fan asked him what the first Hoops kit he owned was. That saw him cast his mind back all the way to 2003. Ex-Celtic star goes wild as he does the huddle at Oasis gig with 70,000 fans McCowan joked: "No doubt probably the day I left the hospital my mum and dad had us in Celtic kit!" He then explained: "But the one I can remember is the 2003/04 Carling. "I put a picture up of me standing like that (arms outstretched) and I've got the Celtic Carling 2003 top on and I've got the bandanna on my head. "That's the first one I can remember wanting to wear all the time and wanting to put on. 4 "That's probably somewhere as well in my mum and dad's loft stinking!" Celtic then shared the very same picture on their Instagram stories, exactly as McCowan remembered it! The 2003/04 campaign was a memorable one for the Hoops who romped to the SPL title. Losing just two games all league season, Martin O'Neill's men reached 98 points and finished 17 points ahead of Rangers. Have YOU got a point for Kris Boyd? The 27-year-old bagged 18 goals at Ibrox after joining on a season-long deal from Wolfsburg, although a permanent move failed to materialize, and he returned to the Bundesliga side in June. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Trabzonspor were also credited with an interest in Cerny this summer, alongside West Ham United, though Turkish outlet Fanatik are now reporting that it is The Black Eagles who have won the race for his signature, with Cerny 'ready to say yes' to the switch. Ben Doak is in demand this summer, but has been advised on his next move by a former Scotland internatonalist. |Ben Doak latest Scotland international Ben Doak has been advised to choose a summer move to newly-promoted Leeds United if he opts to leave Anfield this summer. A number of clubs are battling it out for his signature, with a report from Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph claiming the teenager is seeking to play regular first-team football this season. West Ham United, Bologna, and Monaco have been credited with an interest in the Tartan Army star, who impressed on loan with EFL Championship side Middlesbrough last season, scoring three goals and assisting a further seven before a thigh injury cut short his season at the Riverside Stadium. However, former Rangers and Scotland full-back Phil Bardsley has urged Doak to make a switch to Elland Road, explaining to 'He's certainly an exciting player. If you're not going to get game time at your club, you have to look at the next best thing. And it's about going on loan to a club that will suit him and suit the style that he plays. So, I'm sure Liverpool has got their eyes on that and will make a decision. I'd probably go to Leeds to be fair. I just think that style of football under [Daniel] Farke would probably suit him. West Ham and Leeds both come with great expectations. It depends if you want to live in London or Leeds too - it depends what he likes away from football.' Jack Grealish had interest from Celtic earlier in the transfer window, according to reports. | Getty Images Celtic transfer U-turn Celtic's striking target Giuseppe Ambrosino is reportedly set to reject interest from several clubs this summer and fight for his future at Napoli, according to Corriere del Mezzogiorno. According to a report from The Athletic, the Scottish champions had 'expressed an interest' in the England international, but the 29-year-old 'never seriously considered a move to Scotland.'
