Liverpool fan claims historic first at new Everton stadium before posting one word on social media
Liverpool fan Harrison Rimmer made a name for himself by scoring the first goal at Everton's new stadium on Monday. And the Wigan Athletic prospect celebrated with a reminder of how many European Cups the Reds have won.
The Toffees hosted a test game at their new 52,000-seater stadium with 10,000 fans in attendance. Everton's U18 side faced Wigan and the visitors broke the deadlock in the 12th minute of the match with 18-year-old midfielder Rimmer scoring the first-ever goal at the venue.
Rimmer celebrated the goal by mocking the hosts with a Reds' gesture where he used his fingers to show six European titles won by Liverpool. Before joining Wigan Athletic's youth ranks, goalscorer Rimmer spent a considerable amount of time at Everton during his formative years.

Post-match, the youngster reveled in the moment. He posted the word "rattled" on his Instagram story along with a series of photographs of the game and his celebration. Wigan won the game 2-1 with Cole Simms putting it two goals ahead at one stage before 16-year-old Ray Robert became the first Everton goalscorer in the new ground.
"I'm really excited — I never believed we would be here," one lifelong Everton fan told the ECHO. "I've been a season ticket holder for 48 years and sit in the Upper Bullens and I'll be in the Club View here. I've had mixed feelings about the move but if you've got any kind of sense, you know this has got to happen.
"I've been going to Goodison since I was seven, so the thought of standing up from my seat there and thinking I'll never sit there again — I'm tearing up now thinking about it. But it's a new dawn. It's going to secure our future."
Liverpool.com says: Everton's new stadium will be great for the city. Everton won't be getting relegated either with David Moyes having steadied the ship. The first Merseyside derby in the waterfront ground will be a special moment which Liverpool will hope to mark in a better way than it managed in the final match at Goodison Park.

Consistent Coco Gauff takes sunny outlook into French Open final with Sabalenka
Coco Gauff was only 18 when she navigated a path to a grand slam final for the first time. After her breakthrough in the preceding years, and the intense hype and scrutiny that accompanied her as she tried to build her career, Gauff's run to the 2022 French Open final proved to herself and the world that she was ready to live up to those expectations. Although she did not win the title, her experience at Roland Garros then was an essential lesson that has guided her over the past few years. In the buildup to that final against Iga Swiatek, she struggled badly with her nerves and her intense fear of failure. 'At first I thought it would be the end of the world if I lost, and the sun still rose the next day,' said Gauff after beating Loïs Boisson in their semi-final on Thursday. 'So knowing, regardless of the result, the sun will still rise. Especially being in a city like Paris, I was walking around the next day, and no one knew that I lost [in 2022], and no one cared. Some people know who I am, but not a lot and not everyone. Just realising that however big the moment seems in our lives, [it] is not as big in the grand scheme of things.' Advertisement Related: Sabalenka ends Swiatek's reign on clay to set up French Open final against Gauff So now, Gauff will contest her second French Open final at a completely different point in her career. This year has proved to be a significant learning curve in itself. In the first week of 2025, she produced some of her best performances in the United Cup and her level in beating Swiatek, particularly, remains some of the best tennis by anyone this year. It seemed clear she had positioned herself for a great season. Instead, things became tough. After a quarter-final loss at the Australian Open, Gauff struggled badly. Across February and March, from the Middle East to the United States, she did not reach a single quarter-final. She has found her way again on the European red clay, piecing together an extremely consistent series of results, reaching finals at the Madrid Open and Italian Open before another stellar run in Paris has taken her to the final against Aryna Sabalenka. This tournament places Gauff at an interesting intersection. She has already enjoyed her first breakthrough, winning her first major title at the 2023 US Open and then backing it up by triumphing at the WTA Finals in Riyadh last year. At a time when two players – Sabalenka and Swiatek – have distanced themselves from the field by consistently racking up big titles on the biggest stages, the next question for Gauff is whether she is ready and capable of taking another leap forward and consistently competing for every grand slam. Advertisement On Saturday, Gauff will have a chance to measure herself against the best player in the world. Although both have developed into well-rounded players, with the American improving offensively and Sabalenka employing greater variety and restraint, this is fundamentally a battle between the best defence and the best attack in the sport. Their contrasting styles have made for a tight, intense rivalry over the years. They have played each other for five years now, their first meeting when Gauff was still only 16. They are tied at 5-5 and half of their meetings have been bruising three-set tussles. When Sabalenka is in full flow, striking the ball with total confidence, her heavy weaponry will usually be overpowering. However, Gauff, who was 21 in March, can unsettle anyone. The 2023 US Open final was their only other meeting in a grand slam final and the American narrowed the court with her phenomenal defensive skills, eventually driving Sabalenka to one of the most painful losses of her career. Although the Belarusian, 27, has risen only one spot in the rankings since August 2023, from two to one, she seems like a completely different competitor today. Not only is she a more complete player, she has gained so much confidence and contentment in her daily work. She has only been emboldened by her performances this week, particularly her impressive semi-final victory over the four-time champion Swiatek. The sun will rise again regardless of how the match pans out, but the stakes are high. Under these circumstances, a win for Gauff would signify the most significant achievement in her career.

Who is Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal? Liverpool linked with teenager also wanted by Newcastle
Liverpool is reportedly interested in 19-year-old Rennes center-back Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal, as the club continues to consider its defensive options ahead of next season. While Virgil van Dijk is staying put for another two years, there is uncertainty over Ibrahima Konate's future ahead of the expiration of his contract next year, while Joe Gomez is coming back from hamstring surgery and Jarell Quansah has just experienced a regressive campaign. Advertisement The Reds were interested in Dean Huijsen, but he plumped for Real Madrid, and a link has now emerged with another young defender in Ait Boudlal. Liverpool has already signed one defender in Jeremie Frimpong this summer, while Florian Wirtz could also be on the way. There is also interest in Ait Boudlal from other clubs in France as well as two clubs in Spain. Who is Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal? Given his young age and lack of top-level game time, most soccer fans are unlikely to have heard of him, but he is highly rated. In October last year, Ait Boudlal was named by English newspaper The Guardian as one of world's best 2006-born players. In February, he was sent on loan to French second tier side Amiens for the remainder of the campaign, and went on to make nine appearances, with eight of those coming as starts. Le360 Sport reports that Ait Boudlal is noted for "his ability to pass, his defensive intelligence, and a maturity rare for his age." Reds' transfer window state of play Boudlal is one of several players Liverpool is pursuing ahead of next season, with the club also working on deals for more high-profile targets in Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez. Advertisement Wirtz recently decided that he wanted to join Liverpool ahead of Bayern Munich, and there is belief that a deal could be wrapped up before the summer's first transfer window closes on June 10 — even if it isn't, the window reopens less than a week later and runs until the beginning of September. Talks are also ongoing over Kerkez, who the club has identified as its preferred long-term successor to Andy Robertson, who will turn 32 next season. Robertson was asked about Liverpool's interest in Kerkez ahead of Scotland's friendly with Iceland on Friday and responded: "We're not daft, it looks as if a deal could potentially be done. "But, until that is done, I've not even given that a second thought. I back myself. I've got confidence in my own ability and that drives me forward."

Bayer Leverkusen 'threatened with legal action' as Florian Wirtz to Liverpool takes fresh twist
Liverpool's transfer of Florian Wirtz could result in a legal dispute between Bayer Leverkusen and FC Koln. The Reds are leading the race to sign Wirtz, who has established himself as one of the best young players in Europe after two stellar seasons with Leverkusen. A former Leverkusen chief has even said he knows what's happening with Wirtz's potential move to Anfield. Advertisement While Wirtz's move to Liverpool is not yet confirmed, there is already some conjecture about the figure that Leverkusen will have to pay Koln. Given the 2024 Bundesliga champions are said to be holding out for a fee of €150 million ($171M/£126M), even five percent could be a significant fee. READ MORE: Arne Slot told he could get his own Kevin De Bruyne with mega Liverpool transfer READ MORE: Florian Wirtz latest as Bayer Leverkusen talks 'advanced' amid Liverpool medical timeline Wirtz moved from the latter to Leverkusen as a teenager. Under FIFA statutes, the player's first club could be entitled to five percent of his next transfer fee due to guidelines surrounding 'training compensation.' That applies to players who left a club between the ages of 12 and 23. Advertisement Koln's president Dr. Werner Wolf said the club is willing to 'fight' to ensure it receives the appropriate amount. "Of course, we are looking into it. We know what we are entitled to and will fight for it," Wolf said on Radio Cologne. "We're looking at this with both eyes. We'll benefit from it. The higher the sum Liverpool is willing to pay, the better for us." Training Compensation is designed to reward clubs that prioritize player development and prevent bigger teams from picking off the best talents for a minor fee. There is conjecture over the exact breakdown of the transfer price and how it is calculated. Wirtz is still expected to complete his move to Liverpool, although momentum in the transfer saga has cooled somewhat in recent days. That may be due to Wirtz's involvement at international level. Advertisement Wirtz nodded when asked in the mixed zone by the Daily Mail's Lewis Steele whether he is looking forward to joining Liverpool. Meanwhile, former Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller has said he expects the transfer to be concluded. 'It's no secret that he'd like to go to Liverpool,' Voller told DAZN. 'I know the clubs are negotiating with each other. '[With] transfers like this [it's] often the case that it takes a while until an agreement is finally reached. Of course, in the end, you have the feeling it will go through.'
