United Launch Alliance (ULA) and Amazon recently launched a second batch of Project Kuiper internet satellites to low-Earth orbit, and ULA boss Tory Bruno has just shared some awesome close-ups of the company's workhorse Atlas V rocket leaving the launchpad.
The rocket lifted off from Cape Canaveral in Florida on Monday, with cameras placed close to the launchpad capturing the moment the Atlas V blasted skyward:

And, finally, here's some slow-motion footage of the Atlas V leaving the launchpad:
The Atlas V, which at 58.3 meters tall is about 11 meters shorter than SpaceX's Falcon 9, first launched in 2002 and has conducted more than 85 orbital flights over the decades.

The rocket is noted for its impressive versatility, offering a wide range of configurations that allow mission planners to tailor the rocket's payload fairing size, number of solid rocket boosters (from zero to five), and upper-stage engine count to precisely match the requirements of each space mission.
ULA's Atlas V rocket will fly six more times for Project Kuiper before the company retires the vehicle and switches to its next-generation and more powerful Vulcan Centaur rocket for more launches.
ULA is set to deliver more than half of the Project Kuiper constellation's 3,200 satellites during the next few years as Amazon builds out its Starlink-like internet-from-space service. The broadband system will combine satellites, customer terminals, ground stations, and Amazon Web Services infrastructure for high-speed, low-latency connectivity, with a particular focus on unserved and underserved communities around the world. Amazon is aiming to launch a limited service before the end of this year as its satellite constellation begins to expand.

India, Poland, Hungary make spaceflight comeback with ISS mission

A US commercial mission carrying crew from India, Poland and Hungary blasted off to the International Space Station Wednesday, taking astronauts from these countries to space for the first time in decades. Axiom Mission 4, or Ax-4, launched from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 2:31 am (0631 GMT), with a brand-new SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule riding atop a Falcon 9 rocket. The vehicle is scheduled to dock with the orbital lab on Thursday at approximately 1100 GMT and remain there for up to 14 days. Aboard the spacecraft were pilot Shubhanshu Shukla of India; mission specialists Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski of Poland and Tibor Kapu of Hungary; and commander Peggy Whitson of the United States, a former NASA astronaut who now works for the company Axiom Space, which organizes private spaceflights, among other things. The last time India, Poland or Hungary sent people to space, their current crop of astronauts had not yet been born -- and back then they were called cosmonauts, as they all flew on Soviet missions before the fall of the Iron Curtain. "I carry with me not just instruments and equipment, but the hopes and dreams of a billion hearts," said Shukla, 39, at a recent news conference. He became the first Indian in space since Rakesh Sharma, an air force pilot who traveled to the Salyut 7 space station in 1984 as part of a Soviet-led initiative to help allied countries access space. India's space agency, ISRO, sees this flight as a key stepping stone toward its own maiden crewed mission, planned for 2027 under the Gaganyaan program, meaning "sky craft" in Hindi. Indian science and technology minister Jitendra Singh congratulated Shukla soon after lift-off. "Indeed a proud moment for India!" he wrote on X. While aboard the ISS, Shukla is set to speak with a high-profile Indian VIP -- widely speculated in Indian media to be Prime Minister Narendra Modi -- in a soft-power moment aimed at stoking national pride. All three countries are footing the bill for their astronauts. Hungary announced in 2022 it was paying $100 million for its seat, according to India and Poland have not disclosed how much they're spending. - Space spat - The Ax-4 launch comes after multiple issues delayed the mission, originally slated for early June. It also follows an explosive online spat between US President Donald Trump and SpaceX chief Elon Musk, the world's richest person and, until recently, Trump's ally and advisor. Trump threatened to yank SpaceX's federal contracts -- worth tens of billions of dollars -- prompting Musk to threaten an early retirement of Dragon, the only US spacecraft currently certified to carry astronauts to the ISS. Musk walked back the threat a few hours later and in the days that followed, sought to distance himself further, writing on X that he had gone "too far." Any rupture between SpaceX and the US government would be massively disruptive, given NASA and the Pentagon's reliance on Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy to send up crew, cargo, satellites and probes. But for now, analysts believe both sides are too entangled to risk a serious break. The Ax-4 flight marks the debut of the fifth and final Crew Dragon vehicle, which will be named once it reaches orbit, joining Endeavour, Resilience, Endurance and Freedom in the active fleet. SpaceX ultimately plans to phase out its current vehicles in the 2030s in favor of Starship, its giant next-generation rocket currently in development. Ax-4 will carry out around 60 experiments, including studies on microalgae, sprouting salad seeds, and how well microscopic creatures called tardigrades survive in space. fz-ia/dw/abh/mtp

AeroVironment Inc (NASDAQ:AVAV) achieved record fiscal year revenue of $821 million, a 14% increase from the previous year. The company secured $1.2 billion in total bookings for fiscal year 2025, indicating strong demand for its solutions. AeroVironment Inc (NASDAQ:AVAV) ended fiscal year 2025 with a funded backlog of $726 million, 82% higher than the prior year. The acquisition of BlueHalo strengthens AeroVironment Inc (NASDAQ:AVAV)'s position as a defense tech leader with a comprehensive portfolio. The company introduced three new products, P550, JUMP 20x, and Red Dragon, which align with customer priorities and are expected to drive future growth. The financial results for fiscal year 2025 do not include any financial activity from the BlueHalo acquisition, except for pre-closing expenses. Revenue from Ukraine decreased, contributing to only 18% of total revenue for fiscal year 2025, and is expected to be less than 5% in fiscal year 2026. Adjusted gross margins decreased slightly due to a change in sales mix and lower service margins. The company faced a $18.4 million goodwill impairment in its UGV business. There is uncertainty regarding the timing of US Department of Defense contracts, which could impact revenue projections. Q: Can you discuss the Army's transformation initiative and its impact on AeroVironment, considering the Army's past orders of Switchblades and Pumas? A: Wahid Nawabi, CEO, explained that the Army's transformation initiative, which includes outfitting combat divisions with more drones, aligns well with AeroVironment's capabilities. The company has already secured significant orders and expects additional opportunities as the Army modernizes. AeroVironment's proven production capacity and battle-tested systems position it favorably for future growth in this area. Q: Was there a write-down in the unfunded backlog related to foreign military sales or new administration policies? A: Wahid Nawabi, CEO, confirmed there were no write-downs related to the LMS business or foreign military sales. The unfunded backlog converted to funded backlog during the period, and the company continues to see strong international demand for its Switchblade products. Q: Can you clarify the revenue guidance range, which seems to differ from the sum of the segment ranges? A: Kevin McDonnell, CFO, explained that the guidance reflects potential outcomes, with some judgment applied to the totals. The ranges account for variability in performance across different segments, and the company has taken a conservative approach in its overall guidance. Q: How does the acquisition of BlueHalo impact the fiscal 2026 outlook in terms of revenue synergies and cost synergies? A: Kevin McDonnell, CFO, stated that while some cost synergies are expected and will be realized throughout the year, revenue synergies will take time to materialize. The company is optimistic about the opportunities but has not yet included them in the forecast. Q: What is the market opportunity for the P550 and Red Dragon, and how do they fit into fiscal 2026 projections? A: Wahid Nawabi, CEO, highlighted that both the P550 and Red Dragon have significant market potential. The P550 is expected to secure orders soon, with strong international interest, while Red Dragon, already generating some revenue, is anticipated to drive long-term growth. Both products are positioned to contribute significantly to AeroVironment's future backlog and revenue. Quantum computing stock sent reeling by financing decision

Quantum computing stock sent reeling by financing decision originally appeared on TheStreet. What is the speed of light? You might be familiar with the answer of 299,792,458 meters per second in a vacuum. But is that a scientific fact? It depends on how you think about it (Yes, I am bringing the skepticism to the next level today). We often mistake things that are beliefs as facts -- even scientists do it, sometimes unintentionally, sometimes because it is convenient -- and sometimes, unfortunately, because there is a monetary incentive. The reality is that the speed of light has never been measured in one direction, it is always measured by reflecting the light of a mirror. As a result, there is no proof that light travels at the same speed in both directions, it is only a convention. But what is a convention other than convenient belief? You can prove anything with mathematics. If you add unverifiable assumptions to the mix and claim that they just can't be proven "with current technology", you can create beautiful mathematical proofs for your nonsense. A great example is String theory in physics. According to the paper on String theory by Brian R. Green, there are about five consistent string theories, and they all require 10 space-time dimensions. As if that weren't enough, there is even a spin-off (M-theory) and because it is "so much better" it needs 11 space-time dimensions. Another curiously magical scientific theory is quantum mechanics. Quantum proponents have been promising us incredible computers since the 80s, and the industry has had a resurgence lately. At the center of it all is the company with the incredibly "original" name of Quantum Computing. Quantum Computing () announced on June 17, that it completed the sale of its first commercial entangled photon source to a research institution in South Korea. The institution plans to use this equipment for its work on quantum networking and secure communications. On May 15th, Quantum Computing reported its results for Q1 of fiscal are the highlights: Net revenues of $39,000 (33% gross margin) compared to $27,000 (41% gross margin) year-over-year. Net income of $17.0 million, or $0.13 per basic share for Q1 2025, compared to a net loss of $6.4 million or $(0.08) per basic share in Q1 2024. Cash and cash equivalents on March 31, 2025, increased by $87.5 million to $166.4 million from year-end 2024. During the first quarter, the company raised total net proceeds of $93.6 million through a private placement offering of common stock. The company completed construction of its Quantum Photonic Chip Foundry in Tempe, Arizona, during the first quarter. According to the company, the foundry was built to meet the growing demand for thin film lithium niobate photonic chips. More Tech Stocks: Amazon tries to make AI great again (or maybe for the first time) Veteran portfolio manager raises eyebrows with latest Meta Platforms move Google plans major AI shift after Meta's surprising $14 billion move The company announced on June 23rd, that it has entered into securities purchase agreements with institutional investors for the purchase and sale of about 14 million shares of common stock in a private placement at a purchase price of $14.25 per gross proceeds from the transaction are $200 million, before deducting offering expenses. The company's total cash position should exceed $350 million following closing. Because private placements increase the number of shares outstanding, they can dilute, or reduce the percentage of ownership, of existing shareholders. The stock took a tumble on the announcement, and at last check, QUBT shares were trading 14% lower near $16. During the Q1 2025 earnings call Dr. Yuping Huang, interim CEO and chairman of Quantum Computing, noted that the company is at the stage, in which it is working on the discovery of its customers, explaining its offerings, and letting its customers validate its products. The company's intention to use the net proceeds from the offering is to speed up commercialization efforts, among other computing stock sent reeling by financing decision first appeared on TheStreet on Jun 23, 2025 This story was originally reported by TheStreet on Jun 23, 2025, where it first appeared.
