J&K leaders condemn Israel for attacking Iran; protest erupts in Kashmir valley
Several Jammu and Kashmir leaders, including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, on Friday (June 13, 2025) condemned Israel for attacking Iran, while sporadic anti-Israel protests were held in parts of the Kashmir valley.

'Israel is doing what Russia did in Ukraine. But these powers, whether America, Europe, or anyone else, become silent. Iran did not give any reason to be attacked. This looks like a pre-emptive strike. It is very sad if the world powers remain silent on this,' Mr. Abdullah said.
The Chief Minister also requested the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to ensure the safety of Kashmiri students in Iran. 'Requesting @MEAIndia to urgently ensure the safety and well-being of Kashmiri students currently stuck in Iran. Their families are deeply worried, and we stand with them in this difficult time. Every step must be taken to safeguard our students,' Abdullah said on X.
National Conference (NC) leader and Member of Parliament (MP) Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi used strong words to condemn Israel. 'Israel targeted multiple sovereign nations including Palestine, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, and Iran. Despite launching repeated attacks, Israel continues to portray itself as a victim. This rogue Zionist regime is not defending itself, it is behaving like a colonial aggressor,' Mr. Mehdi said.
He said attacking sovereign nations does not reflect power, 'it amounts to state terrorism'. 'Any sovereign country has every right to defend itself and deliver a firm response. The Zionist regime must be held accountable for its crimes in Gaza and the region,' the NC leader said.
Former J&K Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti termed Israel's attack on Iran as 'yet another brazen act by a State that appears to have gone rogue'. 'The silence of the global community, particularly Western powers led by the United States, is both alarming and telling. This silence amounts to tacit approval,' Ms. Mufti said.

She said in the case of India-Pakistan tensions, the U.S. never fails to assert that its intervention has been crucial in preventing escalation. 'Yet when it comes to Israel's relentless bombardment of Gaza or its latest strike on Iran that same urgency is conspicuously missing. These glaring double standards endangers global peace and stability. Equally disturbing is the deafening silence of the so-called Muslim countries, who remain shamelessly non-existent in the face of such grave injustice. Their inaction is not just disappointing, it's a betrayal of the very causes they claim to stand for,' she added.
Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq termed the attack on Iran 'distressing news'.
'This is highly condemnable. While perpetuating genocide on hapless Palestinians and getting away with it, Israel is now putting the whole of the Middle East in peril. It has become a rogue State and a huge threat to world peace. It is the moral duty of the U.N. and all world nations to put pressure on Israel to stop the genocide and war in Gaza and prevent Israel from targeting other nations. People of Jammu and Kashmir stand with Palestinians and Iranians against Israeli aggression on them,' the Mirwaiz said.
Protests in Kashmir valley
Meanwhile, protests broke out in favour of Iran in parts of the Kashmir valley. Most of the protests were reported from central Kashmir's Budgam. The Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian, a religious Shia body, also organised a street protest at the Markazi Imam Bargah, Budgam. The protesters were seen raising anti-Israel and pro-Iran slogans.
'Attack on Iran is in violation of the International Code of Conduct. Israel has now crossed all limits. unjust, provocative, and an open challenge to the international community. It is not just an assault on one country but an assault on justice, law, and the shared values of humanity,' Aga Syed Hassan Al-Moosavi Al-Safavi, president of Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian, said.

Jharkhand Governor, CM Soren pay tribute to CRPF officer killed in IED blast
Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], June 15 (ANI): Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar and Chief Minister Hemant Soren paid solemn tribute to CRPF officer Satyawan Kumar Singh, who was killed in an IED blast during an anti-Naxal operation on Saturday. The IED blast took place during the security operation targeting Maoist activity in Odisha's Sundargarh district. Governor, addressing the press, said, 'It's a very painful incident. And we get to know that the incident happened near the border of Jharkhand. In the whole nation, action against Naxalism is going on, and paramilitary forces are working in this direction.' Further, Hemant Soren, speaking to the media, said, '...This incident happened during an operation. In the last several years, big operations have been continuously carried out in Jharkhand and the surrounding states, with great success. We are all saddened by this incident. The government stands with the family of the jawan.' The 34-year-old security personnel was posted at the CRPF 134 Battalion and has sustained injuries after an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded during a combing operation in a forest. 'Troops of 134 Bn and SOG Odisha conducted an Operation, wherein an IED Blast took place. ASI/GD Satyaban Kumar Singh (34) of 134 Bn sustained injuries in his left leg. The injured person was evacuated to a hospital in Rourkela in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries,' CRPF said in a statement. Earlier, Security forces gunned down four Naxalites, including three women, in an encounter which took place in the hilly area of Pachama Dadar in Madhya Pradesh's Balaghat district, police said on Saturday. Security forces also recovered a hand grenade, a rocket launcher, a 315 rifle and cartridges, Special DG Naxal, Pankaj Srivastava told ANI over the phone. 'Four Naxalites, including three women, have been neutralised in an encounter which took place in the hilly area of Pachama Dadar of Bithli police station. ‘Foreign policy in shambles': Congress flays govt's stand to abstain from UN resolution on Gaza
THE CONGRESS on Saturday criticised the Central Government for abstaining from voting during the UN General Assembly resolution for a ceasefire in Gaza and alleged that India's foreign policy is 'in a shambles'. The party asked if India has abandoned its principled stand advocating for ceasefire, peace and dialogue in West Asia, and said that because of this decision the country 'virtually stands isolated'. The Congress launched a coordinated attack against the government, with its top leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, condemning the Central Government's decision to abstain from voting in the 193-member UN General Assembly, which overwhelmingly favoured adoption of a resolution introduced by Spain, demanding an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. India was among the 19 nations that abstained, while 12 countries voted against the resolution, which got 149 votes in favour. So far, India has taken a balanced stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict which began in October 2023. While it has condemned Hamas, it has also urged Israel to respect international humanitarian law. In October 2023, India had abstained from a UN General Assembly vote on the Israel-Hamas war. As the Opposition targeted the government, the BJP said India's position on the Israel-Palestine issue was 'steadfast and consistent' and argued that those who choose to 'side with terror' should do so at their own peril. Accusing the Congress of spreading 'half-truths' on the ceasefire issue, BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said India's abstention was not a deviation but a continuation of 'past votes' based on 'unwavering belief' in dialogue and diplomacy as the only sustainable path forward. 'Congress, before unleashing theatrical outrage, should take a moment to read India's official Explanation of Vote at the UN on June 12,' Bhandari wrote on X, posting a screenshot of the purported document. 'The Congress and its intellectually dishonest ecosystem has become nothing but a fake news factory,' he said. On Saturday, Rajya Sabha LoP Mallikarjun Kharge said it has become 'increasingly evident that our foreign policy is in shambles'. 'PM Modi must now take a call on his EAM's (S Jaishankar) repeated blunders and set some accountability,' said Kharge. '149 countries voted for a UNGA resolution for a ceasefire in Gaza. India was only one of the 19 countries that abstained. We virtually stand isolated by this step,' he said. Kharge also mentioned that the Congress had on October 8, 2023 condemned the brutal attacks by Hamas on the people of Israel. 'We have consistently condemned the indiscriminate actions that included a siege of the Gaza Strip and bombings in it. 60,000 people have died and there is a widespread and horrific humanitarian crisis,' said Kharge. 'Have we abandoned India's consistent stand advocating for a ceasefire, peace, and dialogue in the Middle East and West Asia,' he asked. In a post on X, Kharge said India's stance is 'deeply rooted in our long-standing tradition of Non-Alignment and moral diplomacy, through which India has always championed justice and peace in international conflicts'. Senior Congress leader and general secretary in-charge of organisation K C Venugopal said India 'has always stood for peace, justice and human dignity', but today it stands alone as the only country in South Asia, BRICS, and SCO to abstain on a UNGA resolution demanding a ceasefire in Gaza'. 'We know this government has little regard for (Jawaharlal) Nehru ji's legacy, but why abandon even (Atal Bihari) Vajpayee ji's principled stance on Palestine?' asked Venugopal in a post on X. Congress MP and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who has been a vocal critic of Israel's attacks on Gaza, said that 'it is shameful and disappointing that our government has chosen to abstain on the UN motion for the protection of civilians and upholding legal and humanitarian obligations in Gaza'. 'This is a tragic reversal of our anti-colonial legacy. In fact, not only are we standing silent as Mr (Benjamin) Netanyahu annihilates an entire nation, we are cheering on as his government attacks Iran and assassinates its leadership in flagrant violation of its sovereignty and complete contravention of all international norms,' said Vadra.
