RM1.5mil boost for Tawau's health facilities under SMJ programme
KOTA KINABALU: Health facilities in Tawau received a significant boost with over RM1.5mil in contributions channelled through the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development programme.
At a thanksgiving and community engagement event held at the Sri Balung Open Hall on Saturday (May 10), Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor presented RM1mil for the Sri Stella Rehabilitation Hub and RM500,000 for the East Coast Respiratory Corridor at Tawau Hospital.
'This reflects the state government's commitment to enhancing healthcare and community welfare across the state,' said Hajiji, who also handed over three hearses to local mosques.
The event also saw Hajiji engaging with recipients of the Sentuhan Kasih Rakyat (Syukor) programme and presenting keys to 10 Rumah Mesra SMJ recipients in the Balung state constituency.
Organised as a gesture of gratitude for the successful rollout of the state's development agenda, the gathering marked progress in implementing the SMJ Development Plan 1.0 (2021–2025).
As part of the outreach, Hajiji also officiated the 'Outreach Programme with NGOs and Young Entrepreneurs', a personal initiative driven by the Institute for Government and People's Cooperation (Ikrar), aimed at empowering 5,000 young rural entrepreneurs across Sabah.
A total of 100 participants from Balung were selected for this phase.
'The state government remains committed to implementing inclusive, high-impact, and sustainable programmes that directly benefit the people,' Hajiji added.
A total of 234 Syukor recipients from Balung attended the event.

Hajiji: Shahelmey will join us for Sabah polls
PUTATAN: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor confirmed today that his deputy, Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, would be joining his team for the upcoming 17th Sabah state election (PRN17). "He will follow siurang (us)," Hajiji said when asked about Shahelmey's status. Despite his six-year suspension from Umno Sabah in 2023, Shahelmey is still regarded as part of Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN), according to Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin. The term siurang, a local Sabahan expression meaning "us", refers to Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), which Hajiji leads. Bung Moktar has repeatedly said that Umno would not nominate Shahelmey again following his decision to support Hajiji and the GRS government in January 2023, after Sabah Umno withdrew its support for the chief minister. Speaking after attending the Youth Programme for Tanjung Aru, Petagas and Tanjung Keramat this afternoon, Hajiji expressed confidence that GRS could capture all three state seats in the Putatan parliamentary constituency in PRN17. He also voiced confidence in Shahelmey, who is also the Putatan MP, to defend the Tanjung Keramat seat, which he won under a BN ticket during the 16th state election (PRN16) in September 2020. "It will not be difficult… he will surely win. He is still the assemblyman, and he is also the member of parliament," Hajiji said. Shahelmey, however, risks losing his eligibility as Putatan MP if he contests under a GRS ticket in PRN17 due to the anti-hopping law, as the parliamentary seat was won under a BN ticket in the 15th General Election (GE15) in November 2022. Earlier in his speech, Hajiji, who is also GRS chairman, said the coalition could secure all three state seats in Putatan if the people remain united in supporting the government. "Putatan is fortunate to have a deputy chief minister and elected representatives who actively serve the people. God willing, in this election GRS will take all three state seats. The people of Putatan must unite to ensure this good government is returned," he said. Currently, the Tanjung Aru state seat is held by opposition party Warisan, while Petagas and Tanjung Keramat are aligned with GRS. In PRN16, Petagas was also won by Warisan, but its assemblyman Datuk Awang Ahmad Sah Sahari quit the party in February 2023 to join Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat), a GRS component party.

Youth development remains key focus in Sabah: CM

He said the development of young people has been made a key pillar of the state's Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya, recognising them not only as beneficiaries but also as agents of change. Speaking at the Anak Muda Programme at Dewan Sri Putatan today, Hajiji highlighted that from 2021 to 2025, 14 new initiatives worth RM164.14 million had been introduced, benefiting more than 210,000 students. He said the State Government had provided youth grants, skills training, as well as innovation and entrepreneurship programmes, and today presented a RM300,000 grant to youth NGOs in Putatan to further support their ideas and projects. RM600,000 to help e-hailing workers open up EPF account in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU (Aug 17): The State Government will allocate about RM600,000 for gig workers in the e-hailing sector to open up Employees Provident Fund (EPF) account. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said a total 11,109 applications have been received from e-hailing workers to contribute to the EPF. 'I would like to announce that the State Government is allocating nearly RM600,000 to assist those (e-hailing workers) who have yet to open up their EPF account,' he said at the Sabah Moto Day 8.0 at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Drill Field near here on Sunday. Hajiji was also glad to note that Sabah Moto Day continued to grow exponentially attracting about 60,000 motorcylists and motor enthusiasts from all over Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei this year. The presence of many riders and visitors proved that motorcycling activities continue to hold a place in the hearts of youths and the general public, he said. 'I am impressed to see the support shown by all participants, regardless of age, race and religion, coming together to share the same passion. 'We should view this gathering from a positive perspective, as it can contribute, to some extent, to the economic generation of our state due to the large number of participants and visitors in conjunction with this programme, he said. Advising participants of the Sabah Moto Day to prioritise safety while on road, Hajiji also hoped the gathering would help create greater safety awareness among the two- wheeler enthusiasts. The Chief Minister also informed the participants that the State Government viewed youths as asset, hence various initiatives have been implemented to develop the human capital. The State Government of today had spent a total RM1.33 billion including RM848.26 million for education assistance and RM485 million specifically for talent and skills development programmes from 2021 to 2025, he said. 'This has never been done by previous state governments. We are committed to develop our youths who are our future leaders,' he said. At the end of his speech, Hajiji also led the participants to offer Al-Fatihah prayer for the late Zara Qairina Mahathir.
