UAE midday break for workers starts

The UAE's midday break for outdoor workers came into effect on Sunday. The break runs until September 15 and prohibits work under direct sunlight and in open-air spaces between 12.30pm and 3pm. The annual initiative, overseen by the ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, was first introduced in 2004 and gives employees respite from the scorching summer heat. Companies will be fined Dh5,000 for each time a worker breaches the midday ban and up to a maximum of Dh50,000 if several cases take place. The safety measures came back into force after the UAE has seen climate records tumble. The country has recorded its hottest April and May since records began. 'Now in its 21st consecutive year, the Midday Break is rooted in a sustainability-centred approach that the UAE implements in line with its commitment to providing a safe working environment as per international best practices and occupational health and safety standards, protecting workers from injuries and illnesses caused by working in high temperatures during the summer months,' the ministry said on social media. The ministry will be inspecting workplaces across the country over the next few months to monitor implementation of rule. The ministry said 51 infractions were uncovered last year as a result of 134,000 inspections, down from 96 the previous year.

Tadej Pogacar 'super happy' after sealing first Criterium du Dauphine crown for UAE Team Emirates

UAE Team Emirates-EXG rider Tadej Pogacar secured the first Criterium du Dauphine crown of his remarkable career after finishing third in Sunday's eighth and final stage. With the Tour de France less than a month away, the Slovenian sealed his latest title after coming home behind great rival Jonas Vingegaard and stage winner Lenny Martinez of France. It meant Pogacar won the general classification by 59 seconds ahead of Team Visma-Lease a Bike's Vingegaard, with German rider Florian Lipowitz, of Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, a further one minute 38 seconds behind the Dane. Belgium's Remco Evenepoel, of Soudal Quick-Step, came fourth. Pogacar had decided not to defend his Giro d'Italia title last month which saw Isaac del Toro look set to earn UAE Team Emirates a second successive overall victory, only for the Mexican to surrender his lead to Simon Yates on the race's penultimate stage. But last year's triple crown winner roared back into action in style as he secured victory in a race the 26-year-old had only entered once previously, finishing fourth in 2020. Pogacar won three stages – taking his career tally to 98 – on his way to the title after taking over the leader's yellow jersey by claiming victory on Friday's Stage 6 following a trademark surge in the French Alps. 'A really amazing week,' said the three-time Tour de France champion. 'Once again today great job by the team and they've managed to defend the jersey. We can go home happy to prepare for the Tour. 'A lot of positives and all the negatives will turn into positives so it's all good. 'We go to altitude camp at Isola 2000, then three days home, and to the Tour. There's basically not too much to do. Rest after this great week, do some extra work on the time trial, maybe, and then I'm ready. 'I've been here in 2020 at the shortened Dauphine because of Covid times. It was one of the hardest five days I ever did in my career, and since then, I didn't return. Finally, I did it and I'm super happy and proud.' Sunday's final stage was a 133.3km mountainous trek from Val-d'Arc to Val-Cenis, with an uphill finish at the Plateau du Mont-Cenis. Martinez, 21, caught Spaniard Enric Mas with 8km to go to give France its first victory in this Dauphine, finishing 34 seconds ahead of Vingegaard and Pogacar. Vingegaard tried to catch the Bahrain Victorious rider but was unable to shake off Pogacar. The old foes then stopped attacking and rolled in together at the finish. Pogacar now has 99 victories to his name – a record for an active rider at just 26 years of age – and heads into the Tour de France, which begins on July 5, as firm favourite.

Team Godolphin lead powerful UAE challenge at Royal Ascot

For more than 300 years Royal Ascot has stood as the jewel in British Flat racing's crown, a meeting where deep-rooted traditions blend effortlessly with world‑class competition. This year's edition gets underway on Tuesday, June 17, with the UAE sending one of its strongest contingents yet to the historic Berkshire course. Backed by top owners and led by seasoned trainers, the team is primed to vie for multiple victories, aiming to add fresh chapters to a legacy of success on a stage steeped in sporting history. At the center of this challenge is Godolphin, the flagship operation of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The stable's famous blue silks will be carried by more than 30 runners at Royal Ascot this year. For UAE fans, Royal Ascot is more than just a glamorous race meeting, it's a chance to celebrate their rich equestrian heritage and ability to produce horses that can conquer the greatest stages. The Maktoum Family's love for horses traces back decades, and this deep-rooted passion finds its fullest expression at Royal Ascot. A back-to-back Champion Owner in 2021 and 2022, Godolphin will be well represented across all the big races — from the Queen Anne (G1) and St James's Palace Stakes (G1) on the opening day, Tuesday, June 17, through to the final day on Saturday, June 21. Each race will test the ability of many of their homebreds against the best from Ireland, France, Japan, America and the UK. Saeed bin Suroor, Godolphin's longest-serving trainer, has a rich Royal Ascot record with 39 wins. His expertise in preparing horses for these big days, combined with the resources available through Godolphin, makes him a powerful force at the meeting. Charlie Appleby, a master strategist who has tasted Royal Ascot success 15 times, will also aim a team of well-prepared runners, adding depth and confidence to Godolphin's challenge. 'Royal Ascot is a very special meeting for Godolphin and all of us.' said Bin Suroor. 'It's where we want to bring our best horses and show what we can do on a world stage. We have a strong team this year, and we're hopeful we can add to our success. The competition is always tough, but we come here to win and to make UAE racing proud.' Bin Suroor is no stranger to Royal Ascot glory. The renowned Emirati handler from Hatta has been Champion Trainer at the meeting not just once, but four times in the past - a testament to his remarkable ability to produce winners on the sport's grandest stages. His achievements underscore a legacy of excellence that has made him a dominant force in Flat racing for over 30 years. This year's meeting promises rich rewards, with the total prize money matching last year's record at a remarkable £10.05 million. The Prince of Wales's Stakes (G1) and Queen Elizabeth II's Stakes (G1) lead the way, each offering a staggering £1 million in total. All Group 1 races are worth at least £650,000, while all other contests carry a minimum of £110,000 in prize money. For UAE racing fans, Royal Ascot 2025 is a wonderful opportunity to once more celebrate the country's rich racing tradition on a world stage and its relentless quest for excellence.
