Ajman, United Arab Emirates: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and Chairman of the Executive Council, and in the presence of Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Ajman Department of Tourism Development, the 58th Asian Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship kicked off today (Sunday June 15, 2025) in Ajman. Hosted for the first time by the Ajman Tourism Development Department, the prestigious event is taking place at the Emirates Hospitality Centre and will continue through June 17, 2025.
Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Humaid Al Nuaimi expressed his pride in Ajman hosting the Asian Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship for the first time, pointing out that the event has drawn the attention of the global sports community to the Emirate.
He stated, 'This championship represents a pivotal opportunity to showcase Ajman's remarkable organisational capabilities and highlight the Emirate's rich cultural heritage and tourism appeal. Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Body Building and Fitness Federation, highlighted the UAE's organising of the Asian Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship in Ajman as a significant addition to the UAE's track record of professionally and uniquely conducting sports events. He also expressed his appreciation for the support and patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, noting that it lays the foundation for the exceptional hosting of the ongoing championship in Ajman. These include Classic Bodybuilding (Juniors, Men, and Masters), Women's Acrobatics, Women's Artistic Fitness, Fit Model (Women, Juniors, and Masters), Men's Fitness, Women's and Masters Physique, Women's Fit Model, Women's Physique, Body Fitness (Women, Juniors, and Masters), Women's Body Fitness, Women's and Juniors Wellness, Open Fit Pairs, and Bikini (Juniors and Women).

UAE midday break for workers starts
The UAE's midday break for outdoor workers came into effect on Sunday. The break runs until September 15 and prohibits work under direct sunlight and in open-air spaces between 12.30pm and 3pm. The annual initiative, overseen by the ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, was first introduced in 2004 and gives employees respite from the scorching summer heat. Companies will be fined Dh5,000 for each time a worker breaches the midday ban and up to a maximum of Dh50,000 if several cases take place. 'Now in its 21st consecutive year, the Midday Break is rooted in a sustainability-centred approach that the UAE implements in line with its commitment to providing a safe working environment as per international best practices and occupational health and safety standards, protecting workers from injuries and illnesses caused by working in high temperatures during the summer months,' the ministry said on social media. The ministry will be inspecting workplaces across the country over the next few months to monitor implementation of rule. The ministry said 51 infractions were uncovered last year as a result of 134,000 inspections, down from 96 the previous year.

UAE Team Emirates-EXG rider Tadej Pogacar secured the first Criterium du Dauphine crown of his remarkable career after finishing third in Sunday's eighth and final stage. With the Tour de France less than a month away, the Slovenian sealed his latest title after coming home behind great rival Jonas Vingegaard and stage winner Lenny Martinez of France. It meant Pogacar won the general classification by 59 seconds ahead of Team Visma-Lease a Bike's Vingegaard, with German rider Florian Lipowitz, of Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, a further one minute 38 seconds behind the Dane. Belgium's Remco Evenepoel, of Soudal Quick-Step, came fourth. Pogacar had decided not to defend his Giro d'Italia title last month which saw Isaac del Toro look set to earn UAE Team Emirates a second successive overall victory, only for the Mexican to surrender his lead to Simon Yates on the race's penultimate stage. But last year's triple crown winner roared back into action in style as he secured victory in a race the 26-year-old had only entered once previously, finishing fourth in 2020.
