Motorcyclist dies after being thrown from bike when he struck a stone wall in Ledyard
A motorcyclist was killed when he veered off the road in Ledyard late Thursday and struck a stone wall.
Emergency crews responded to the area of 44 Fanning Road at 9:52 p.m. after receiving a 911 call reporting a motorcycle crash, according to Capt. Ken Creutz of the Ledyard Police Department.
The victim, identified as 34-year-old Julian R. Lorenzo of the Oakdale section of Montville, was found at the scene where he was pronounced dead, Creutz said.
In addition to Ledyard police, the response at the scene included the Ledyard Fire Company, Gales Ferry Fire Company, Mashantucket Tribal Police and American Ambulance. Members of the Southeast Connecticut Regional Traffic Unit also responded to assist with the investigation.
The initial investigation suggested Lorenzo was on a 2023 Harley-Davidson traveling east on Fanning Road when he veered off the roadway while negotiating a curve and struck a stone wall, according to Creutz. He was thrown from the bike and killed, Creutz said.
In a statement issued Friday, Creutz said the Ledyard Police Department 'offers our sincere condolences to Mr. Lorenzo's family members and friends.'

Ormond Beach biker, 60, killed when car pulls in front of him on S.R. 415
An Ormond Beach motorcyclist was killed this morning when he slammed into a sedan that pulled in front of him on State Road 415, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The 60-year-old Ormond Beach man was heading south on State Road 415 on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when a Ford Fusion pulled out in front of him at Fort Smith Boulevard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The motorcycle hit the left side of the Ford, which was driven by a 48-year-old Deltona man. First responders took the 60-year-old to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital, but authorities pronounced him dead at the hospital. The driver of the Fusion had serious injuries, and first responders took him to the same hospital. The crash happened about 7:16 a.m., and the Florida Highway Patrol is investigating. Hudson motorcyclist dead after collision with SUV in Litchfield
A 41-year-old motorcyclist died Tuesday night after striking the rear of an SUV that was backing onto a highway in Litchfield, police said. Jean Lopes of Hudson was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near 519 Charles Bancroft Highway, according to the Litchfield Police Department. Police said the collision occurred when a Toyota RAV4 was reversing onto the highway and was struck from behind by Lopes's Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Lopes was found unresponsive in the roadway. "Witness accounts suggest the RAV4 was in the process of reversing onto Charles Bancroft Highway when it was struck from behind by the motorcycle," police said. The Litchfield Police Department is investigating the crash with assistance from the Hudson Police Department's Crash Investigation and Reconstruction Team.
