King Charles all smiles with Becks amid growing family feud

Perth Now20-05-2025

King Charles and David Beckham did little to quiet speculation surrounding their respective family feuds as they shared laughs with each other at an event in London.
Just days after their estranged sons reunited over an intimate dinner, the former England captain attended the Chelsea Flower Show to watch the monarch have a new rose named in his honour.
The pink and white flower was created by David Austin Roses in collaboration with The King's Foundation, a charity for which Beckham serves as an ambassador.
With The King's Rose pinned to his beige suit, Beckham made more than a polite gesture — it was a quiet display of loyalty to Charles.
Beckham reportedly greeted the sovereign and said, 'Your Majesty, it's so nice to see you.'
Surprisingly, Charles then appeared to ask whether he had received his 50th birthday present.
'You got it, didn't you?,' he was heard saying.
Beckham replied, 'It was incredible, thank you. It was very kind.'
Queen Camilla was also heard saying it was nice to see Beckham again at the annual gardening event and asked about his wife Victoria Beckham, according to The Sun. The cheerful exchange comes just days after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle threw their support behind Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz amid ongoing tensions with the Beckham family.
The Sussexes invited the young couple to their Montecito mansion in California for dinner, a gesture that firmly indicates where they stand on the feud.
It is believed that Markle and Peltz had a 'deep and meaningful conversation' where they found 'common ground' after both being accused of destroying their husbands' families.
'Meghan had a lot of sympathy for her, and said there was shared common ground,' the insider said.
Rumours of tension began swirling earlier this month when Beckham and Peltz skipped the football star's 50th birthday celebrations.

David Beckham 'honoured' by new project days after knighthood reports

David Beckham is "honoured" to be the next guest editor of Country Life magazine. The 50-year-old retired footballer - who bought a £16 million Cotswolds mansion with wife Victoria, 51, in 2016 - is excited to share his passion for the countryside with the publication's readers. He said in a statement: "I am honoured to have been invited to guest edit an edition of a magazine that I have always admired and read. "I am really looking forward to working with the editorial team to produce an issue that will celebrate what the countryside and the great British landscape means to me and my family.' The one-off edition of the magazine is said to include David's best-loved recipe, along with his own rural champions along with those who have helped at his countryside home. The Manchester United legend will also offer an insight into the role the countryside plays in his life. David - who is an avid supporter of the British monarchy - is following in the footsteps of King Charles, who has been guest editor twice, in 2013 and 2018 to mark his 65th and 70th birthdays. In 2020, the Princess Royal was in charge of an issue celebrating her 70th birthday, and the Queen - then known as the Duchess of Cornwell - marked her own 75th birthday three years ago with a special edition. Last week, it was reported David will be awarded a knighthood in the King's Birthday Honours List, which is set to be announced on Saturday (14.06.25). David has been married to former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham - with whom he has Brooklyn, 26, Romeo, 22, Cruz, 20, and 13-year-old Harper Seven - since 1999 and The Sun reported that she will become known as Lady Victoria Beckham once her husband is knighted. David will join a select list of his fellow sports stars who have already received the honour, including the likes of the late Sir Bobby Charlton and former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. According to the outlet, David "narrowly missed out" on receiving a knighthood in 2024, and the honour instead went to former England manager Gareth Southgate. In 2003, he was given an OBE by the late Queen Elizabeth for services to football. The former Premier League star has a long history of charitable work, which Honours Committee officials will have considered before deciding to bestow him with the honour.

Fans shocked by Sabrina Carpenter's ‘degrading' new album cover

Don't miss out on the headlines from Music. Followed categories will be added to My News. Barely a week after she surprised fans with the release of a brand new single, Manchild, Sabrina Carpenter has delivered another bit of unexpected news: Her next studio album will be released in only a couple of months' time. But, according to some of her fanbase, the album cover is the real shocker. Carpenter announced today that her seventh (!) studio album Man's Best Friend will be released on August 29. She revealed the album cover on social media: A striking photo of Carpenter on her knees, in a short dress and heels, pawing at the leg of a man standing over her. He's pulling on Carpenter's blonde hair like a leash. Sabrina Carpenter's 'Man's Best Friend' album cover... I just hope she's had her worming tablets. Amid the fan excitement to be getting a new album from the star only 12 months after the release of her chart-topping record Short N' Sweet, there's also a discernible amount of shock: This is the album cover? One fan under Carpenter's Instagram post labelled the image 'embarrassing,' others calling it 'disgusting' and 'degrading.' 'Girl is this a humiliation ritual,' one person asked. 'This pic is so embarrassing pick a new shtick,' another complained. 'I dont wanna see no man dragging you around by your hair mother please get up,' begged another. Some fans even begged Carpenter to change the cover. Picture: Getty Images via AFP The album will drop almost exactly a year after her breakthrough Short N' Sweet. Picture: Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Others even suggested to Carpenter that it wasn't too late to change the cover, one fan writing: 'Hey can we get a new cover that doesn't suck? Feels very against the powerful busy woman character that you built up …' Carpenter's certainly striking while the iron is hot, dropping her next album hot on the heels of breakthrough record Short n' Sweet, which still sits at number three on the ARIA charts almost a year after its release. 26-year-old Carpenter released her debut single way back in 2014, and while she achieved a few minor hits along the way, it wasn't until last year's world-conquering hit Espresso that she finally hit pop's big leagues, a full decade into her career. That song is still charting inside the ARIA top 30, 60 weeks on from its debut. Since then, she's stacked up a slew of multi-platinum singles in a very short period: Please Please Please, Taste, Bed Chem and latest release Manchild, which is expected to debut at or near the top of the charts in most major markets later this week. Carpenter opened up to her fans about the upcoming album release in an email sent out today to those on her mailing list. 'I didn't plan on releasing a new record however when inspiration strikes, i go to the studio,' she wrote, saying she 'tried not to overthink thr process this time' and was inspired by musical heroes like Stevie Nicks, Dolly Parton and Donna Summer: '[I] was surprised to find so many of those artists i loved put out a new record every year for a long time,' she wrote. 'Can't say that is or will be the norm for me but this time it really eased my mind about putting something out when it feels right!' Brooke Shields' podcast episode criticising ‘precious' Meghan is quietly deleted

Don't miss out on the headlines from Royals. Followed categories will be added to My News. IN LONDON One week after its headline-grabbing release, the podcast in which Brooke Shields called out Meghan for being too 'precious' has been deleted. The actress, 60, was interviewed by India Hicks for an episode of her podcast recently, which appears to now no longer be available online. Hicks is the goddaughter of Meghan's father-in-law, King Charles. The original podcast link currently takes users to a 'page not found' message on the content creator's Substack. During the conversation, Shields had reflected on her experience sharing a panel with the Duchess of Sussex, hosted by Katie Couric and titled 'Breaking Barriers, Shaping Narratives: How Women Lead On and Off the Screen', which took place during last year's SXSW festival. Meghan, Couric and Shields during the panel. Picture:'Katie asks the first question to Meghan and she talks about how at a young age, she was already advocating for women,' Shields told Hicks on her An Unexpected Journey podcast. 'She starts telling a story about how when she was 11 — and she keeps saying, 'Well, when I was 11, I saw this commercial and they were talking about how washing dishes was for women' And she said, 'I didn't think only women wash dishes. It wasn't fair, so I wrote to the company.'' 'She kept saying she was 11!' Shields exclaimed. 'She wrote to the company, they changed the text, they changed the commercial. It was just too precious, and I was like, 'They're not going to want to sit here for 45 minutes and listen to anybody be precious or serious.'' It prompted Shields to jump in an effort to lighten the mood. 'I go, 'Excuse me, I'm so sorry, I've got to interrupt you there for one minute.' I was trying not to be rude, but I wanted to be funny because it was so serious,' she recalled. 'I just want to give everybody here a context as to how we're different. When I was 11, I was playing a prostitute,' referencing her 1978 historical drama, Pretty Baby. 'The place went insane', Shields added, with the crowd becoming 'more relaxed'. Shields – seen here earlier this month – described Meghan as being too 'precious'. Picture: Ilya S. Savenok/Getty Images The episode has now been deleted. Picture:/AFP Meanwhile, Meghan has shared the origin story of her passion for social justice a number of times in the past. She opened up about it at the 2019 International Women's Day panel at SXSW, explaining that the ad – originally featuring the slogan 'Women all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans' – had been a formative feminist experience. 'Truth be told, at 11 I don't think I even knew what sexism meant. I just knew that something struck me internally that was telling me it was wrong, and I knew that it was wrong,' she said at the time. 'And using that as my moral compass and moving through from the age of 11, at that age I was able to change this commercial. It really set up the trajectory for me to say, 'If there was a wrong, if there is a lack of justice, and there is an inequality, then someone needs to do something. And why not me?'' The company, Procter & Gamble changed the slogan to 'People all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans.'
