IGP Kashmir reviews security arrangements for SANJY 2025, Muharram
According to a release, at the onset of the meeting, participating officers briefed the chair on the security arrangements planned for the smooth and peaceful conduct of Amarnath Ji Yatra-2025, Muharram, and other significant events. The officers shared valuable insights from past experiences, emphasising the need for robust communication channels, seamless coordination among forces, and advanced real-time monitoring systems. Discussions focused on strengthening the existing security infrastructure, enhancing surveillance tactics, and optimising personnel deployment along the key locations.
As per the release, IGP Kashmir conducted a detailed review of the security framework and directed the officers to ensure the installation of CCTV cameras at all strategic locations. He emphasised the need for adequate manpower deployment at each camp and in sensitive areas to maintain a secure environment. V K Birdi also stressed the importance of intelligence-driven operations, timely threat assessments, and proactive measures to mitigate potential risks, ensuring the safety of all participants.
The meeting was attended by DIG CKR Rajiv Panday-IPS, DIG NKR Maqsood Ul Zaman-IPS, DIG SKR Javid Iqbal Matoo, SSP PCR Kashmir, all district SSsP of Kashmir Zone and other officers.
The meeting concluded with a strong commitment from all the officers to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of the forthcoming events. (ANI)

As India gears up to celebrate its 79th Independence Day this year, preparations are in full swing at the Red Fort, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the national flag and deliver his 12th consecutive speech. We also learnt how to stay calm as we will have to stand or sit for a long time. We take pride in waking up early for the programme, knowing we are contributing to the country." Several videos also showed political leaders hoisting the Tricolour to kick off the Tiranga Yatra. Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh were seen hoisting the Tricolour at their residences. A full-dress rehearsal for the event took place on the morning of 13 August, from 4 am to 10 am, during which traffic restrictions were enforced across the national capital. "Restrictions were imposed on our borders from 10 pm last night, under which no commercial vehicles were allowed to enter Delhi. These restrictions will remain in place until arrangements at Red Fort are complete. We also have restrictions on the ring road leading towards Raj Ghat due to VIP movement," said Delhi Police Additional CP Traffic, Dinesh Kumar Gupta, announcing stringent traffic measures across the city. The six-hour rehearsal, involving security personnel and other ceremonial arrangements, restricted entry to all general vehicles, allowing only those with proper passes. The road restrictions implemented for the dress rehearsal, which may be repeated during the main event on Friday, are as follows: Netaji Subhash Marg, from Delhi Gate to C Hexagon SP Mukherjee Marg, from HC Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar Chowk Chandni Chowk Road, from Fountain Chowk to Red Fort Nishad Raj Marg, from Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg Esplanade Road and its Link Road to Netaji Subhash Marg Ring Road, from Rajghat to ISBT Meanwhile, the Delhi Metro will begin operations at 4:00 am on Independence Day, providing 30-minute service intervals until 6:00 am. Regular schedules will be in place for the rest of the day to accommodate guests and the public. In a post on the social media platform X, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) stated, 'To facilitate the special guests, invitees and general public to attend the Independence Day ceremony on Friday, 15 August 2025, the Delhi Metro will commence its services at 04:00 am on all its lines from all terminal stations." DMRC added, 'Train services will be available at a frequency of 30 minutes on all lines until 06:00 am, and thereafter, a regular timetable will be followed for the rest of the day.'

Mexico hands over 26 alleged cartel members to US amid tariff pressure
Mexico City [Mexico], August 13 (ANI): In a renewed push to curb transnational organised crime amid mounting US pressure, Mexico has expelled 26 alleged high-ranking cartel members to the United States, according to an Al Jazeera report.A joint communique from Mexico's attorney general's office and its security ministry confirmed that the extradition was initiated at the request of the US Justice Department, which also provided guarantees that the death penalty would not be imposed on any of the coordinated transfer comes as the Trump administration steadily ratchets up pressure on Mexico to take stronger action against criminal syndicates tied to drug trafficking and human smuggling, Al Jazeera reported.A key facet of that pressure campaign has been economic: the imposition of higher tariffs on certain Mexican exports to the United States. Trump has justified these measures as necessary to 'hold Mexico 'accountable' for the 'extraordinary threat posed by illegal aliens and drugs'," echoing his administration's broader President Claudia Sheinbaum has sought a delicate equilibrium in her dealings with Washington–working cooperatively on security challenges, while firmly safeguarding her nation's sovereignty. Fisherman deported from Sri Lanka returns home, confirms Indian High Commission
Colombo [Sri Lanka], August 13 (ANI): One Indian fisherman has been deported from Sri Lanka and has reached India, the Indian High Commission in Colombo said on a post on X, the High Commission stated, 'One Indian fisherman has been deported from Sri Lanka and has reached India." The development comes at a time when incidents of Sri Lankan Navy violations are on the rise. Following the end of the fishing ban on June 15, the Sri Lankan Navy apprehended 50 Rameswaram fishermen along with their 7 motorboats and one national boat. In response, fishermen have urged the central and state governments to take immediate action to secure the release of these fishermen and their have also demanded that steps be taken to stop the Sri Lankan Navy's repeated intrusions that disrupt them and to restore their right to fish in their traditional areas, where Tamil Nadu fishermen are currently being denied access.A protest was staged in Thangachimadam, where the fishermen reiterated their demands, including the immediate release of 24 fishermen who were arrested while fishing and have been imprisoned as convicts between 2024 and 2025. A large number of fishermen participated in the demonstration, which was led by All Fishermen's Association President Sesuraj, raising slogans in support of their fishermen announced that they would hold a hunger strike on August 15, coinciding with Independence Day. If the central and state governments still fail to act after that, they warned they would launch a train strike on August 19, continuing until all their demands are protests come in the backdrop of the Sri Lankan Navy arresting 14 Indian fishermen from Tamil Nadu's Ramanathapuram district on August 6. Four of them were taken into custody from Thondi, Thiruppalai, while 10 others, were arrested from the Pamban area of Rameswaram in the same fishermen arrested from Thiruppalai have been identified as Vimalraj (24), Mathesh (20), Sakthi (18) and Karthi (18).Sea Workers' Association State President S. Muruganantham, speaking to ANI, said, 'The Sri Lanka Navy has arrested 4 fishermen from Thondi, Thiruppalai — Vimalraj (24), Mathesh (20), Sakthi (18) and Karthi (18) — who went fishing in a country boat from Thondi in Ramanathapuram district yesterday, along with the boat they were on. Similarly, the Sri Lanka Navy arrested 10 fishermen from Pamban who went fishing in a boat INT-TN-10-MM-2702 yesterday."The incident of the Sri Lanka Navy arresting 14 fishermen from Ramanathapuram district in a single day has caused unrest among the fishermen.
