Kevin Durant has long had a unique relationship with NBA Twitter (the platform is now known as X), and that includes a few references over the years to Houston.
Now, after having spent more than 16 years on the platform, the All-Star forward and former Most Valuable Player (MVP) will soon live in Houston as a Rockets player. Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 draft, and five second-round picks are heading to the Phoenix Suns as part of a blockbuster trade.
In the aftermath of Sunday's agreement being announced (appropriately, it broke on X), many Rockets fans reposted Durant's old posts pertaining to the city or the team. Naturally most were bumped in a jovial, celebratory, and lighthearted way.
Here's a few of the more memorable ones from Durant's social media history, as those posts pertain to the Rockets or Houston. Beyond his connections to Houston's players and coaching staff, it's worth remembering that the future Hall of Famer played his college basketball at the University of Texas, so he should have ample familiarity with the area.

Kevin Durant Sends Strong Message After Surprising Trade to Rockets
Kevin Durant Sends Strong Message After Surprising Trade to Rockets originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The drama at Fanatics Fest in New York reached a fever pitch on Sunday afternoon when NBA superstar Kevin Durant was unexpectedly traded—right as he was on stage being interviewed by Taylor Rooks. The crowd erupted as the news broke in real time. Advertisement Durant, who had a brief stint with the Phoenix Suns, is now headed to the Houston Rockets in a blockbuster deal that sends Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft, and five second-round picks to Phoenix. Shortly after the trade, Durant was interviewed by Kay Adams at the event and addressed the situation directly, offering a strong message and making it clear that the move benefits everyone involved. 'Being part of the Houston Rockets, I'm looking forward to it,' Durant said. 'I had an idea, but I didn't know exactly when it was gonna happen... They wanted me to go, so glad they got what they wanted, I got what I wanted, so we can move on. Good luck to them going forward. I'll always remember my time there, but we're on to something else.' Now 36 years old, Kevin Durant remains one of the most effective offensive talents in the NBA. He joins a Houston Rockets team that's coming off an impressive season, finishing as the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference before being eliminated by the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the playoffs. Advertisement Once the trade is officially finalized on July 6, Durant will have the opportunity to team up with Fred VanVleet, Alperen Şengün, and Amen Thompson—three key players who headline the Rockets' promising roster. Denver Nuggets Nearly Made Kevin Durant Decision During Offseason
Denver Nuggets Nearly Made Kevin Durant Decision During Offseason originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Denver Nuggets are coming off a season in which they surprised many. First, it was the decision to fire head coach Michael Malone and general manager Calvin Booth just days before the end of the regular season. As a result, the Nuggets went into the playoffs with an interim head coach, David Adelman. Advertisement Some thought that the decision would prove to be a death sentence. Although still early, it proved to be the right move in the first round of the NBA Playoffs, as the team defeated the Los Angeles Clippers in seven games, who were one of the hottest teams in the NBA entering the playoffs. Downing-Imagn Images Denver Nuggets nearly made Kevin Durant decision In the second round, the Nuggets met up with the Oklahoma City Thunder. To that point, the Thunder had looked nearly invincible, making quick work of the Memphis Grizzlies in a sweep. Many believed that dominance would continue after the grueling Clippers series, but the Nuggets gave the Thunder a decent run for their money before falling short in Game 7. Advertisement The Nuggets lacked depth and top-tier talent outside of Nikola Jokic. Likely looking to make a trade in the offseason, the Nuggets were a surprise contender for the services of Kevin Durant, according to Shams Charania, before he was ultimately traded to the Houston Rockets. It's fun to imagine what such a trade package would've looked like from Denver's end. To make the salaries work, it would likely have had to involve Jamal Murray, or, more likely, Michael Porter Jr. in addition to young players like Peyton Watson, Julian Strawther or Christian Braun. Now, the Nuggets will look elsewhere to add depth to attempt to keep up in what will likely once again be a tough Western Conference. Contending next year should be Denver's top priority if they don't want to risk Jokic asking for a trade. If they can't build upon what they accomplished this season and at least get back to the Conference Finals, that's very well what could happen. Surprise West Team Contacted Suns About Kevin Durant Trade: Report
Surprise West Team Contacted Suns About Kevin Durant Trade: Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Phoenix Suns have been a tough team to root for after they were swept out of the NBA Playoffs by the Minnesota Timberwolves two years ago. Many hoped that the team would improve from that performance but proved to go in the other direction in a hurry. They simply were a bad team on defense, evident by their No. 28 finish in terms of defensive efficiency. Advertisement Many speculated that the Suns were looking to trade Kevin Durant at the trade deadline last season, as their hopes for a spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament grew slimmer by the day. Whether it was Durant pleading with the Suns not to trade him to a particular team, or because the team wanted to make one last push, the team held onto him. But that changed on Sunday. The Phoenix Suns have made a decision about Jalen Green's Shea-Imagn Images Surprise West team contacted Suns about Kevin Durant On Sunday, the Suns traded Durant to the Houston Rockets for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, and five second-round picks. The trade is likely the beginning of a rebuild for the Suns, while the Rockets hope this move will put them over the top in a loaded Western Conference. Advertisement However, according to Shams Charania, who broke the news of the trade, there was a surprise team that was in the mix for Durant: the Denver Nuggets. It remains unclear what a package from the Nuggets would've looked like to attempt to pair Durant with Nikola Jokic. It would likely have centered around Michael Porter Jr., while sending young talent like Peyton Watson and Julian Strawther, as Christian Braun would have been considered untouchable. It remains unclear as to what Phoenix's endgame is. As it sits, they currently have a logjam at the shooting guard position, so this is likely just the first of sizable moves the Suns make this offseason. It could prove to be a busy few days for the Suns if they make more moves ahead of the draft on Wednesday. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 22, 2025, where it first appeared.
