Report: Rockets star Kevin Durant underwent ‘minor' thumb surgery
Kevin Durant recently underwent thumb surgery on his left, non-shooting hand, though Houston's doctors reportedly believe it was a 'minor' procedure. Newly acquired Rockets star Kevin Durant underwent left thumb surgery this offseason, per Chris Baldwin of Houston's PaperCity Magazine. It was reportedly a 'minor' procedure. 'A source tells PaperCity that Rockets leadership 'did not give it a second thought' after the team's doctors looked at x-rays of the thumb,' reports Baldwin. He refers to it as a 'minor operation.' Training camps for the 2025-26 NBA season won't open until around October 1, so Durant still has nearly three months to let the thumb fully heal before there's any sort of meaningful basketball activity. As an All-Star forward with the Phoenix Suns, Durant averaged 26.6 points (52.7% FG, 43.0% on 3-pointers), 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game last season. He turns 37 years old in late September. 'During last season, Durant played through a thumb injury on his left non-shooting hand at times, wearing a thumb brace when off the court,' Baldwin writes. 'The thumb injury and quiet offseason surgery raised no concerns to the Rockets' decision makers, according to a source with knowledge of their thinking.' This fall, Durant is expected to be the top scoring option for a Houston team that is coming off a 52-30 season with the No. 2 record in the Western Conference. With the perennial All-Star and future Hall of Famer on board, the Rockets are hopeful of making a serious championship push next season. More: Reports: Kevin Durant to wear No. 7 jersey with Rockets

[Watch]: Kevin Durant Goes Viral for Vibing to Drake's 'No Face' at Wireless Festival
Kevin Durant (Image via Getty) NBA superstar Kevin Durant recently captured the internet's attention after a video surfaced of him enjoying himself at the Wireless Festival in London. The Houston Rockets forward was spotted grooving to Drake 's live performance of 'No Face,' a track that includes a shoutout to Durant in the lyric: 'KD just text me, WTF are we waiting on, damn.' Kevin Durant's relaxed presence among the crowd, moving effortlessly with the rhythm, resonated with fans and showcased the genuine camaraderie between the basketball icon and the Canadian rapper. Their relationship goes beyond public appearances and mutual admiration. Durant notably featured in Drake's music video for 'Laugh Now Cry Later,' and holds A&R and executive producer credits on the rapper's 2023 album For All the Dogs. In 2022, Drake even referred to Durant as his 'executive producer,' a title that solidified their creative connection. Their history of public moments stretches back to 2016, when Kevin Durant made a surprise on-stage appearance during Drake's concert at Oracle Arena. Drake, known for referencing athletes in his lyrics, has name-dropped Durant multiple times over the years. In 'Weston Road Flows,' he rapped: 'Shout out to KD, we relate, we get the same attention,'—a line Durant once said caught him off guard when he first heard it. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dementia Has Been Linked To a Common Habit. Do You Do It? Memory Health Learn More Undo Jay-Z also mentioned Durant in 'Crown' with the line: 'It's a new day, hit up KD,' which Durant found particularly impactful after signing with Roc Nation. Kevin Durant has acknowledged being referenced by other major hip-hop artists as well, including J. Cole, Fabolous, and Logic, all of whom have used his name to symbolize excellence and relevance. Despite a momentary tension during the 2019 NBA Finals—where Durant's Golden State Warriors faced off against Drake's beloved Toronto Raptors —the two have maintained a strong mutual respect and lasting friendship. Durant's latest festival appearance comes during heightened attention on Drake, who is currently embroiled in a lyrical feud with Kendrick Lamar. That rivalry saw fellow NBA star LeBron James attending Lamar's 'Pop Out' concert, where several diss tracks targeting Drake were performed. This led to online speculation that LeBron might be distancing himself from Drake, especially after Kevin Durant posted a photo from Drake's music video set. The post was misinterpreted as Durant choosing sides, prompting him to clarify on social media that he wasn't taking part in the drama. Rockets' Kevin Durant transformation video after Suns trade is sick
The post Rockets' Kevin Durant transformation video after Suns trade is sick appeared first on ClutchPoints. Kevin Durant will enter a new phase of his career with the Houston Rockets once the NBA season tips off. His new team already feels like they've acquired a premier talent that will allow them to make a legitimate NBA Finals run. Advertisement The Rockets' social media team recently posted a transformation video in anticipation of Durant's arrival. The video shows real footage of the two-time champion in a Phoenix Suns uniform and uses a fire effect to transition to a version of the video that includes Durant in a Rockets jersey. 'It's our lucky day,' said the post's caption. Durant was traded to the Rockets late last month. The deal ended months of speculation regarding the Suns' intentions for the 15-time All-Star. There were whispers that Phoenix shopped Durant prior to the 2025 NBA trade deadline, and it became clear that the franchise was ready to pivot away from its current roster construction. Advertisement '[The Suns] wanted me to go,' Durant told Kay Adams shortly after the trade was reported. 'They got what they wanted, and I got what I wanted. We can move on, and good luck to them going forward. Always remember my time there, but we're on to something else.' The deal ultimately included seven teams and required the Rockets to trade Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, and other key assets. Following a 52-30 season that saw them fall to the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the postseason, it was evident that Houston needed an offensive boost. Last season, the team ranked 27th in effective field goal percentage on off-the-dribble jumpers and 24th in effective field goal percentage on all jumpers. Durant figures to add an immediate solution. The crafty veteran is known for his scoring prowess. He averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists across 62 games last season, and led the NBA in points per direct isolation among players to run 200 isolations during the same campaign. 'Kevin impacts the game on both ends of the court and is one of the most efficient scorers in the history of basketball,' Rockets general manager Rafael Stone said. 'We liked the growth our team showed last season and believe Kevin's skill set will integrate seamlessly.'
