Boston has no shortage of historic hotels, but one sleek downtown stay just earned a top spot among the country's best. The Godfrey Hotel Boston landed at number 6 on TripAdvisor's 2025 Travelers' Choice Awards: Best of the Best Hotels in the U.S., a list compiled from millions of reviews and ratings by travelers across the globe.
Set in two beautifully restored early-1900s buildings in Downtown Crossing, The Godfrey blends Boston's old-school bones with modern swagger. Think smartphone keyless entry, in-room streaming tech and clean, mid-century-inspired interiors, complete with plush Frette linens and soothing neutrals. Guests rave about the oversized windows (there are more than 50 room types, but natural light is standard across the board) and a location that puts them steps from theaters, shops and some of the city's most buzzed-about restaurants.
That includes Ruka, the hotel's signature spot where Japanese-Peruvian Nikkei and Chinese-Peruvian Chifa dishes get a local twist—yes, there's seafood and, yes, it's some of the best in town. But what really sets The Godfrey apart, travelers say, is the service. Staffers here strike a rare balance between New England charm and next-generation hospitality, seamlessly combining the two.
It's a major moment for a hotel that has quietly helped anchor the revitalization of Downtown Crossing, a neighborhood once home to Benjamin Franklin and now humming with cocktail bars, boutiques and cultural events.

Here are the other airlines that have since followed suit. Emirates Emirates is the latest airline to introduce the new power bank ban. From October 1, passengers will no longer be able to use the devices onboard, nor will they be able to charge the device using the onboard power supply. The popular seaside town where Sainsbury's car park is the top tourist attraction - can YOU guess where it is?

When holidaymakers think of a classic British staycation, they probably picture sandy beaches, breezy coastal walks, fish and chips, and a few family-friendly activities to keep everyone entertained. But in one popular Cornish town, there's an unlikely attraction drawing in the crowds - and it's got nothing to do with its traditional seaside charm. In Bude - known for its rugged coastline, award-winning pies and historic castle - a supermarket tunnel has emerged as the town's top-rated attraction on TripAdvisor, with an average rating of 4.7 stars. The must-see tourist spot is a covered walkway that provides shelter for shoppers heading to Sainsbury's car park from Crooklets Road. Hundreds of tongue-in-cheek reviews have flooded in on the travel platform over the years, with an overwhelming 1,367 out of 1,554 total reviews rating the tunnel 'Excellent.' One person ranked it the 'eighth wonder of the world,' another called the experience 'life-changing,' while a third compared it to Lapland. Others suggested visiting at night, when the tunnel lights up, to get the full 'experience.' Some have even gone one step beyond and used the opportunity to profess their undying love for one another - with one elated couple posting the moment they got engaged under the plastic walkway. Posting a photo of her now-fiancé down on one knee, Kim G, from Birmingham, wrote: 'After a 4 hour journey all the way from Birmingham down to Bude to see this attraction, I didn't expect what would happen next. 'I left Birmingham a girlfriend, and I am now leaving Bude a wife-to-be. I cannot wait to come back here next year to enjoy our anniversary.' The idea of a plastic tunnel being a must-see hotspot in one of Britain's most beautiful beach towns is a tad ridiculous - and that's exactly why people are obsessed with it. What started as a bit of local joke online has now turned into a real-life tourist stop, with visitors from all parts of the country showing up just to snap photos and take ironic 'I was here' selfies. One group posed under the tunnel dressed as Elvis impersonators, while others turned up in themed costumes - including one man in a bizarre Aladdin-inspired ostrich ensemble - to make the photo all the more outlandish. Another reviewer said: 'I've been to the forbidden city in Beijing and the pyramids of Cairo but nothing prepared me for awesome beauty and grandeur of the Bude Tunnel. 'I'm still shaking. My grandchildren will stare open mouthed as I regale them with tales of today's visit. Allow at least three hours and bring a picnic.' A third, describing the sight as 'magical,' added: 'Forget Harry Potter. If you want a magical experience, this is it. This is our second visit to the tunnel in as many years. You will NOT be disappointed.' Another wrote: 'Being a person that has seen all 7 wonders of the world and paying a lot of money, the Bude tunnel is now counted number 8. One group posed under the tunnel dressed as Elvis impersonators, while others turned up in themed costumes - including one man in a bizarre Aladdin-inspired ostrich ensemble 'I went to Sainsbury for a pack of salted peanuts to feed the squirrels. And I left questioning the meaning of existence.' However, a number of locals and returning visitors consider the rating an insult, as one wrote: 'It's just a walk way with nothing to see at the side of a supermarket you walk through it in about 2 minutes surely someone is having a joke. Another added: 'Am I missing something here but this is a tunnel that gets you from the car park of Sainsbury's to the entrance. I really don't understand how this is even on Trip Advisor!!!' According to the Mirror, TripAdvisor apparently even had to pause reviews at one point because the 'attraction' gained such a large cult following. An overwhelming 1,367 out of 1,554 total reviews rated the tunnel 'Excellent' on TripAdvisor Thankfully, for tourists and locals who want to explore beyond the confines of Sainsbury's car park, Bude has an endless array of activities, sights and culinary delights to offer. The South West Coast Path provides scenic walking routes for those craving a natural dopamine boost, and the town also boasts attractions like Bude Castle Heritage Centre and the historic Bude Canal. For family fun, The Milky Way Adventure Park and The Big Sheep are nearby options.

'Beautiful' UK market town with charming high street and stunning gardens

Cowbridge in South Wales was declared the finest place to live in Wales by the Sunday Times in 2017, with visitors impressed by the charming town's wealth of independent shops, eateries, and a weekly farmers' market Cowbridge, a charming market town just half an hour from Cardiff, is renowned for its beautiful gardens, award-winning pubs, and delightful high street. In 2017, the Sunday Times declared Cowbridge in South Wales the best place to live in Wales, and it's easy to see why. ‌ The picturesque Welsh town boasts a plethora of independent shops, eateries, and a weekly farmers' market, and is a real haven for foodies. Every Saturday, visitors can explore the farmer's market at Arthur John's car park, offering a variety of handcrafted produce including meats, cheeses, plants, herbs and fresh fish. ‌ The organisers emphasise that all products at the market have been "grown, reared, caught, brewed, pickled, baked, smoked or processed" by the stall holders themselves. ‌ For those who love shopping, there are plenty of charity shops as well as independent retailers. This includes No39, which offers furniture and gifts, and Stwff-Stuff, where you can discover a range of delightful items such as bags, jewellery, and trinkets, reports Wales Online. The Happy Days Vintage Home Store is perfect for a leisurely browse. Here, you can search for unique, vintage furniture and household items. They offer everything from nostalgic toys to records, clothes, postcards, and retro signs—and there's even a cafe nestled amongst the eclectic assortment of items. Cowbridge's crown jewel is the Physic Garden, a peaceful sanctuary perfect for unwinding, wandering, and quiet reflection. This enchanting space showcases a "glorious array of medicinal plants and herbs", with its half-acre site home to species historically employed for therapeutic and cooking needs. The Welsh Historic Gardens Trust transformed the garden several years back, with Queen Camilla, who was the Duchess of Cornwall at the time, officially opening it in 2008. ‌ Guests have praised the gardens as a "tranquil haven." One reviewer wrote, "An absolute haven in the centre of town. We've been here many times when we've needed an uplift. Volunteers are helpful and really well informed about what is growing." A second visitor commented: "A little oasis of recently met a friend for lunch in Cowbridge and we got there early so we decided to spend some time walking around the Physic was so calm and peaceful." ‌ The town's dining scene includes The Bear Hotel, which scooped a 2025 TripAdvisor award, and the Penny Farthing, holder of a 2024 Travellers' Choice accolade. The local Hare and Hounds appears in the Michelin Guide and has earned a Bib Gourmand for "good quality, good value cooking". Food enthusiasts will no doubt adore the Elephant and Bun delicatessen, which stocks an array of charcuterie and cheeses, wines, and cider. The prize-winning ice cream shop, Fablas, is absolutely essential. The town is a haven for nature lovers, with parks and plenty of walking trails. Nearby attractions include the Hensol Castle Distillery, the Vale Resort Golf Club, St Hilary Vineyard, and Warren Mill Farm.
