Indian Embassy Open House highlights community support, repatriation efforts

The Embassy of India organized an Open House yesterday, chaired by Ambassador HE Mr. Vinod Kurian Jacob. The Embassy's consular team and panel of lawyers were also present.
More than 30 Indian nationals participated in the Open House, which was conducted in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Malayalam.
The event began with a moment of silence in remembrance of the Pahalgam terror attack. Thereafter, the gathering was briefed on the cases raised during the previous Open House.
An Indian national who had been stranded in Bahrain for an extended period was repatriated with the Embassy's assistance. An Emergency Certificate was issued, and an air ticket was provided through the Indian Community Welfare Fund.
In another case, a woman who participated in an Open House received an Emergency Certificate, and her outstanding school fees were settled with the intervention of the Embassy. The Ambassador expressed his appreciation to the school principal and Malabar Gold & Diamonds for their support in clearing the dues.
The Embassy also issued an air ticket through the Indian Community Welfare Fund to a cancer patient traveling to India for further treatment.
In April, Embassy officials visited the Ladies' Prison and Jau Prison to meet inmates in person. Support kits were distributed to the inmates of the Ladies' Prison through the Indian Community Welfare |Fund.
The Ambassador expressed his gratitude to the Bahraini authorities, including the Ministry of Labour, LMRA, and Immigration authorities, for their swift assistance in consular and community welfare matters.
He also thanked the Embassy's panel of lawyers for their consistent participation and support in reviewing the cases presented, and appreciated the commitment of Indian community organizations and volunteers in helping distressed members of the Indian diaspora throughout the year.

Modi opens Kashmir rail link
Prime Minister Narendra Modi made his first visit to Kashmir yesterday since a conflict with arch-rival Pakistan, opening a strategic railway line to the region he called 'the crown jewel of India'. Modi launched a string of projects worth billions of dollars for the northern territory. Nuclear-armed India and Pakistan fought a four-day conflict last month, their worst standoff since 1999, before a ceasefire was agreed on May 10. 'Friends, today's event is a grand festival of India's unity and firm resolve,' Modi said after striding across the soaring bridge to formally launch it for rail traffic. 'This is a symbol and celebration of rising India,' he said of the Chenab Bridge which connects two mountains. The Chenab span is the 'world's highest railway arch bridge', sitting 359 metres (1,117 feet) above a river. While several road and pipeline bridges are higher, Guinness World Records confirmed that Chenab trumps the previous highest railway bridge, the Najiehe in China. Modi called it 'an extraordinary feat of architecture' that 'will improve connectivity' by providing the first rail link from the Indian plains up to mountainous Kashmir. With 36 tunnels and 943 bridges, the new railway runs for 272 kilometres (169 miles) and connects Udhampur, Srinagar and Baramulla. It is expected to halve the travel time between the town of Katra in the Hindu-majority Jammu region and Srinagar, the main city in Kashmir, to around three hours. The new route will facilitate the movement of people and goods, as well as troops, that was previously possible only via treacherous mountain roads and by air.

H.E. Minister tells ILO Bahrain sees labour rights as economic lever
TDT | Manama Bahrain is positioning labour rights not just as a social necessity but as a driver of economic progress, according to His Excellency Yousif bin Abdulhussain Khalaf, Minister of Legal Affairs and Acting Minister of Labour. Addressing the 113th Session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva, H.E. Minister Khalaf said the Kingdom was committed to aligning employment policies with legal protections and social justice, in line with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. 'Safeguarding workers' rights and promoting decent jobs are not just values, they are engines of development,' H.E. the minister said, reflecting on the conference theme, 'Forging the Link Between Jobs, Rights, and Economic Growth.' Integrated reforms H.E. the minister outlined a series of reforms and legal initiatives underway in Bahrain to protect trade union freedoms, support social dialogue, and strengthen workplace safety. The Minister drew attention to Bahrain's Tier 1 status in the US Department of State's Trafficking in Persons Report for the seventh consecutive year, calling it an international recognition of the Kingdom's effective and proactive efforts to combat exploitation. His Excellency Khalaf also noted the complete absence of child labour in the Kingdom, the country's anti-discrimination protections, and the rollout of updated occupational health and safety standards. Youth and women H.E. Also stressed that Bahrain's labour vision also prioritises inclusion, with programmes aimed at increasing youth participation in the labour market and promoting the advancement of women in the workforce. Khalaf praised the report by ILO Director-General Gilbert F. Houngbo and echoed its call to see workers' rights as integral to economic resilience.

His Majesty issues decree pardoning 209 inmates on Eid Al Adha
TDT | Manama His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa issued a royal decree pardoning 209 inmates on the occasion of Eid Al Adha. The royal pardon includes individuals convicted in various offences who have served part of their sentences, in addition to a number of individuals under alternative sentencing. The pardon reflects HM the King's commitment to provide those pardoned with the opportunity to reintegrate into society and contribute to Bahrain's comprehensive development process under the leadership of His Majesty.
