Blue Jackets finally score, get win against Sens
April 9 - The Columbus Blue Jackets ended a three-game losing streak and a lengthy goalless drought on Tuesday with a 5-2 victory over the visiting Ottawa Senators.
Mathieu Olivier and Justin Danforth tallied a goal and an assist apiece in the victory. Dmitri Voronkov, Sean Monahan and Adam Fantilli also scored, while Kent Johnson helped on both third-period goals. Elvis Merzlikins made 33 saves.
Thomas Chabot scored a goal and assisted on Fabian Zetterlund's first goal in a Senators sweater. Claude Giroux, Drake Batherson and David Perron earned assists, and Anton Forsberg stopped 30 shots.
The Blue Jackets (35-33-9, 79 points) also stopped Ottawa's three-game winning streak and prevented the Senators (42-30-6, 90 points) from clinching a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs -- briefly. Ottawa still secured its first postseason appearance since 2017 thanks to the Montreal Canadiens beating the Detroit Red Wings 4-1.
Columbus saw its goalless streak end at 152:04 when Voronkov netted his 21st of the season from the high slot exactly seven minutes into the game. That was also the first goal Ottawa surrendered in exactly 160 minutes.
Danforth added to the lead with 3:22 left in the period.
Zetterlund would cut the deficit in half with 3:42 to go in the second period on the power play. It was his 18th on the season but his first in 16 games since the San Jose Sharks dealt him a month ago.
Olivier restored the two-goal lead with :21.6 remaining in the period when the puck ricocheted off his skate. Erik Gudbranson, playing in his 800th career game, assisted along with Danforth.
Monahan scored on a power play to make it 4-1 with 17:23 left, thanks to Johnson and Zach Werenski, who earned his 55th helper on the season. Fantilli gave Columbus a four-goal lead nine minutes later.
Merzlikins continued his stellar play against Ottawa. He entered Tuesday having posted a 2.34 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage in nine games (2-2-2). He stopped 22 of 23 shots in Sunday's 4-0 loss in Ottawa, coming in after the Senators scored twice in the first five minutes.

Capitals coach Spencer Carbery claims Jack Adams Award
June 7 - Spencer Carbery of the Washington Capitals was named the winner of the 2024-25 Jack Adams Award on Saturday. The honor is presented to the NHL coach who is judged to have made the biggest contribution to a team's success. Scottie Scheffler accuses Amanda Balionis of making him 'emotional' during interview
World No 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler has accused broadcaster Amanda Balionis of making him 'emotional' during an interview when he was asked about the support of his wife while he is on the links. Balionis got a word with Scheffler seconds after he secured the victory at The Memorial, not far from the green on hole 18. The golf host asked Scheffler about his wife Meredith's support, while he held his 1-year-old son Bennett in his arms. 'You're really trying to make me emotional now,' Scheffler said to Balionis. 'I mean, my wife is my biggest supporter. She's my best friend, and this is our life out here on the road.' It's been a lot of fun and I've had some special memories at this tournament. Yeah, definitely couldn't do it without her.' The Memorial is hosted by arguably the best golfer of all-time, Jack Nicklaus, with Balionis asking the question in reference to the wife of 'The Golden Bear', Barbara Nicklaus. An emotional Scottie Scheffler speaks with Amanda Balionis following his @MemorialGolf win 😊 — Golf on CBS ⛳ (@GolfonCBS) June 1, 2025 'Watching you and Meredith and Bennett, it makes me think, we've been talking about Barbara Nicklaus all week this week and how she made so much of Jack's career possible with her support,' Balionis said. 'Talk about what this balance looks like and the support Meredith provides that allows you to be the best father and husband you can be while also being the No 1player in the world.' The interview was seconds after Scheffler got to hug Meredith and Bennett after the win became official. On camera, Meredith admitted to her golfing husband that their son pooped on his back and she stuck around to congratulate her partner before finding a new diaper. Scheffler is less than a month removed from his PGA Championship win at Quail Hollow, his third major victory. He was in the news for his time in North Carolina on Wednesday, as Rory McIlroy spoke out on the leak of testing drivers that involved both men. 'Two members of the media were the ones that leaked it. Again, I didn't want to get up there and say something that I regretted, either, because there's a lot of people that I'm trying to protect,' McIlroy said before the start of the Canadian Open. 'Scottie - I don't want to mention his name. I'm also trying to protect TaylorMade. I'm trying to protect the USGA, PGA of America, myself. I just didn't want to get up there and say something that I regretted at the time.'

Amateur Tyler Weaver books spot at US Open
British amateur Tyler Weaver has secured his place at the US Open, while Max Homa and Rickie Fowler failed to qualify. Homa, who finished tied for third at the 2024 Masters, has struggled this year, recently splitting with his caddie and carrying his own bag at the qualifying event in Columbus, Ohio. Cameron Young claimed the final spot in a five-man play-off that included Homa and Fowler, while South Africa's Erik van Rooyen topped the leaderboard to qualify. Qualifying hopefuls played 36 holes across 10 venues in the US and Canada to compete for 47 spots in the US Open. Matt Wallace secured a spot in Ontario, providing a potential Ryder Cup boost for England.
