Britain's Got Talent's Jonathan and Charlotte 13 years on and what happened after Simon Cowell split them up

Daily Record24-04-2025

Britain's Got Talent first started unearthing opera talent in 2007, discovering stars like Paul Potts and Susan Boyle. But few acts have been as memorable as the teenage opera duo Jonathan and Charlotte from 2012. Their breathtaking rendition of The Prayer elicited an incredulous "Seriously?" from none other than Simon Cowell himself. At just 17 and 16 years old, Jonathan and Charlotte captivated the judges from their very first note. At the time, Simon, ever the blunt critic, suggested that Jonathan should pursue a solo career, implying that Charlotte could be a hindrance. Ignoring Simon's counsel, the duo stuck together, even changing their name before progressing to the tense live finals on May 12, 2012, reports the Manchester Evening News . The pair enjoyed a remarkable journey but ultimately finished as runners-up, with Ashleigh and her dog Pudsey taking the top spot, leaving Jonathan and Charlotte's supporters disappointed. By the following morning, there were already whispers that Simon was negotiating a deal for Jonathan and Charlotte, potentially offering them a £1 million contract with his Syco music label. In September 2012, Jonathan and Charlotte went on to release their first album, 'Together', which included tracks inspired by legends such as Elton John , Muse, and Queen. After captivating listeners all over Europe and climbing the music charts, the singing duo hit a pivotal moment in their joint career. In February 2014, they announced the end of their musical union as individual solo pursuits from Sony Classical beckoned. Sharing the news of their solo contracts and gratitude towards their supporters on their website, they wrote: "To now be offered our own solo record deals by Sony Classical is the most exciting thing ever. "We are thrilled to be going back into the recording studio so soon." Now, Charlotte is seizing new opportunities with her love for the stage, captivating musical theatre audiences. Her notable performances include 'Carousel in Concert' at The Royal Festival Hall and the original West End run of 'Heathers'. Her latest role was in Todrick Hall's acclaimed production 'Midnight' in early April, which she praised on Instagram , saying: "This show has been one of the most fulfilling and rewarding shows I've ever worked on. "I've laughed and cried every day, watched the most talented humans create, and been giddy to see what would happen each day." Meanwhile, Jonathan is busy with his upcoming album after a worldwide tour and continues to perform in his local Essex . After their professional parting, Jonathan's debut solo album 'Tenore' rocketed to the top of the Classical Artist Album chart. Jonathan has also been in the spotlight for shedding an impressive five stone. He candidly admitted: "I've still got a lot to lose but I'm making my way. I feel stronger and healthier than I have in 10 years, which is a lot." Reflecting on the changes he's made, Jonathon remarked: "This year I've made an active choice. I've felt I've lacked the discipline a lot. When I was out in America it's fast food everywhere." He also shared his earlier challenges and his journey towards better health, stating, "I was in a terrible state in the start of the year and I've been able to claw my way back doing light exercise . "For a long time I was just experiencing life, letting life live me, trying to find the next pleasure. Taking control of your own life, grabbing the world with your hands, feels amazing."

Amanda Holden appears NAKED on radio just days after Ofcom complaints over BGT dress

AMANDA Holden has stunned radio fans after appearing to turn up to work completely naked. The star looked totally nude on the live stream of Heart FM's Breakfast Show - and it even left her co-host Jamie Theakston doing a double take. 5 Amanda Holden appeared to be naked on Heart FM Credit: Instagram 5 The star asked herself if she had forgotten to get dressed Credit: Instagram Amanda's wardrobe faux pas came just 24 hours after it was revealed both hers and Alesha Dixon's risqué dresses from the Britain's Got Talent Live Final had sparked Ofcom complaints. Sitting in her DJ hot seat on Thursday morning, Amanda looked across at a monitor for the live stream and admitted: "Good morning, Mr Theakston. "It is 6.30am and I've just caught myself on the camera and don't you think I look naked this morning? Sat behind here?" Stuttering, Jamie replied: "Do you know what... You are wearing clothes, aren't you?" Laughing, Amanda told her co-host: "I just looked and went, 'What? Have I forgotten to put my clothes on?'" With her blonde hair loose around her shoulders, it did look as though Amanda, 54, was in the buff. The only thing visible was a chunky string of pearls around her neck featuring a gold heart. But Amanda was in fact wearing clothes. The glam mum-of-two was pictured outside Global's studios in London after the show had finished in a pale pink strapless dress made of suede. Her figure-hugging frock fell at the knee and Amanda had teamed it with nude court shoes and a matching handbag. Britain's Got Talent fans hit out at judge during live final as they rage 'what is he doing-' She also popped on a pair of sunglasses, despite the wet weather in the capital. The Sun revealed on Wednesday how ITV had been hit with a flurry of complaints following the BGT final. Television watchdog Ofcom received 96 complaints in total about the live finale - with 72 relating to Amanda and Alesha's skin-baring dresses. Amanda chose to wear a long, white gown with dramatic cowl neck for the telly extravaganza - and had just a very skimpy bra underneath. Alesha, meanwhile, wore a sheer floor-length dress that gave fans of the show a good look at her underwear. At the time, one viewer had complained on X: "Love the show, but what a shame that Amanda and Alesha have to dress like they are going to some special nightclub." Another fumed: "Catching up on #BGT and what is Amanda wearing? Not really appropriate for a family show." A third compared Amanda's dress to a "tea towel". Amanda is no stranger to baring the flesh and deliberately chooses outfits that show off her incredible figure. Speaking to The Sun at the BGT premiere, she cackled: "I constantly scroll through Instagram when I'm on car journeys and bombard my stylist with loads of ideas. "It's thigh splits and cleavage. "I have a whole 't*t committee' [in the production team] that watches everything [to prevent 'accidents']." 5 Amanda was actually wearing a strapless pink suede dress on Thursday Credit: The Mega Agency 5 It gave the impression she was nude behind her desk Credit: The Mega Agency

BBC EastEnders star breaks silence on 'upsetting' exit as final scenes filmed

EastEnders star Clair Norris has spoken out for the first time since it was announced that she would be leaving the BBC soap after eight years in the role of Bernie Taylor. EastEnders star Clair Norris has confessed her departure from the show is "upsetting" as she opened up about leaving her role as Bernie Taylor for the first time. She first joined the BBC soap in 2017 and has seen her on-screen family members leave over the years. With her character being axed this summer, her final scenes were filmed in April and will air later this year. At the British Soap Awards in London last week, Clair said: "Obviously it's upsetting. I'd been there for eight years, which is a long time to play a character, and I have absolutely loved being in the show." ‌ She acknowledged the experience she gained while working on EastEnders reports the Manchester Evening News, stating: "They gave me the opportunity to learn on the job and also now I am able to take that onto other things that I do." ‌ She continued in her conversation with the Sun: "Of course it's sad but at the same time it felt like a natural end, with the Taylors being gone, it kind of felt right. I'm now very excited about the future." Clair felt that the decision to write out her character was inevitable after the rest of the Taylor family left Albert Square. She revealed that she kept some of Bernie's belongings as mementos, including her iconic coat, a Walford Pride t-shirt, and a birthday badge. The specifics of her character's departure are being kept secret and firmly under wraps for now, but Clair hinted that Bernie will once again show off her more mischievous side. She teased: "My exit is very Bernie, and it's back to bad Bernie. It's very dramatic, and must-watch. I've already filmed my exit and it will play out later this summer." ‌ When questioned about whether viewers can expect to see Bernie's mum Karen Taylor return to the show, Clair remained tight-lipped, saying: "I couldn't possibly say!"Maybe, maybe not, you'll all have to watch." Clair's plans following her departure from the show are uncertain, as she said: "My plan is to work out what I want to do. 'EastEnders' is the only thing I've ever done, so all I know is soap. I came from college and went straight into it. "I'm open to anything. I've just been on holiday which was great and the perfect timing. And now I'm back it's about getting cracking with show reels and self tapes." ‌ Elsewhere on the BBC soap, fans are convinced that Zack Hudson and Lauren Branning will fall pregnant after they shared a passionate night together. Also in the Square, Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) was harshly confronted by her fiancé Peter Beale's (Thomas Law) anger over their son Jimmy Beale's severe sight impairment diagnosis, blaming Lauren's drug use during pregnancy.

He said: "We won't stop talking about this. I'm not going to let the San Antonio Police Department or anyone else silence the fact that this was a hate crime, and I just won't be silenced. Article continues below Jonathan was shot dead on Saturday (31.05.25), aged 59, and Tristan announced his passing via a post on social media. He wrote on Facebook: "My husband Jonathan Joss and I were involved in a shooting while checking the mail at the site of our former home. That home was burned down after over two years of threats from people in the area who repeatedly told us they would set it on fire. We reported these threats to law enforcement multiple times and nothing was done. "Throughout that time we were harassed regularly by individuals who made it clear they did not accept our relationship. Much of the harassment was openly homophobic. ‌ "When we returned to the site to check our mail we discovered the skull of one of our dogs and its harness placed in clear view. This caused both of us severe emotional distress. We began yelling and crying in response to the pain of what we saw. "While we were doing this a man approached us. He started yelling violent homophobic slurs at us. He then raised a gun from his lap and fired. "Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing side by side. When the man fired Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life. Article continues below "Jonathan is my husband.
