Birmingham Airport passengers 'moved to NEC and face 180-minute wait' after runway closure
The runway was closed for six-hours this afternoon and evening (August 6), with more than 25 flights cancelled.
Other flights were diverted to East Midlands Airport.

BHX apologised for the inconvenience caused to passengers.
The runway opened up just before 8pm this evening, however passengers continue to face delays this evening.
Passengers on an 8.35pm flight to Palma in Mallorca, Spain, have been moved to Hangar 3 at the NEC as they await to board their flight which has been put back to 11.05pm.
A passenger, who wished to remain anonymous, said Ryanair who they're flying with has compensated passengers £3 per boarding pass.
They added: "We're still queueing, flights have been cancelled to Faro, Alicante and Dublin." See the full list of flight cancellations here.
In a statement provided to Birmingham Live earlier this evening, a Birmingham Airport spokesman said: "Following the aircraft incident today, the runway has reopened and operations have resumed.
"All passengers must check flight details with their airlines and follow advice issued by them.
"We understand the frustration and apologise for the disruption this has caused.
"Our teams have worked as quickly as possible, in line with strict protocols, which must be followed to ensure a safe reopening of the runway following a prolonged closure.'

New air-conditioned Piccadilly line trains tested in central London
New air-conditioned Piccadilly line trains have been successfully tested in tunnels through central London after the launch of the fleet was postponed by up to a year. Technical issues identified in prototypes delayed the launch as new trains had to be modified and re-tested to ensure they ran sufficiently. The new trains had a test run between Northfield and Hyde Park corner during a closure of the Piccadilly Line last weekend. New Piccadilly line trains will replace older trains introduced in 1973 and will be the first of the Tube's deep-level lines to have walk-through carriages and air conditioning. Londoners have been calling on Transport for London (TfL) to install or improve air conditioning on Tubes, after temperatures reached up to 33C on trains during the heatwave in July. The Tube lines which reach the hottest temperatures include the Victoria, Central, Bakerloo and Northern lines. The Standard previously interviewed commuters on the Tube on the hottest day of the year in July. Salvatore Cafaelli, 60, who commutes on the Victoria line, said: 'I have no choice, I have to take the Tube for work, but definitely it's too hot. It's like I am in a sauna. 'I think for the money commuters are paying, (TfL) should be improving the system,' he said – and called for air conditioning to be provided on all Tube lines. The new Piccadilly train test run comes after The Standard revealed the arrival of the first 94 new trains which were due to be introduced into public service during 2025 had been delayed by up to a year – the new trains are now expected from July to December of 2026. The initial delay was caused by unexpected difficulties in introducing the first new train onto challenging 'real life' conditions on London Underground infrastructure, compared with the test track, on which the train is understood to have performed well. The introduction of a new fleet of trains is part of a £2.9bn investment programme to upgrade the line. Once the 94 new trains replace the existing 86 trains, TfL plan to increase the number of trains travelling through central London from 24 to 27 trains an every hour – equating to one every 135 seconds – at peak times. The new trains are designed and manufactured by Siemens – the majority of the fleet is being assembled at the Siemens factory in Goole, Yorkshire. At a London Assembly meeting, Andy Lord, the TfL commissioner previously admitted the introduction of the new trains was proving 'challenging' and 'extremely complicated' to fix. Mr Lord said: 'The first train was slightly late [arriving] in London last summer. Since it arrived, a number of issues have been discovered as part of testing that we have been undertaking in the depot. 'That has meant that Siemens have had to do some further design work.' Stuart Harvey, TfL's chief capital officer, who is in charge of the introduction of the new trains, previously told The Standard: 'It will obviously be disappointing for customers that they will have to wait a bit longer for the new trains, and I regret that. 'But I would like to assure Londoners and visitors to our city that we are working extremely closely with Siemens to ensure that the new trains can be introduced as soon as possible in the second half of next year.'

London weather: ‘Mid-30s Celsius not out of the question' as Storm Dexter brings new heatwave
London is set to bask in another summer heatwave next week with temperatures tipped to reach as high as 35C in parts of the UK. The Met Office is forecasting daily highs of 29C or 30C from Monday to Thursday as hot air from the continent wafts over southern England. That would meet the threshold for an official heatwave in the capital, which requires at least three consecutive days of 28C or higher. Bu forecasters say there is a chance it could be considerably warmer than that, with the Met Office saying temperatures in the mid-30s Celsius are 'not out of the question'. Where exactly the hottest weather will be felt remains unclear, however, although it looks set to be warm and sunny across the whole of southern England throughout next week. It comes as remnants of Storm Dexter over the Atlantic draws warm air up from the southwest across the UK. Alex Burkill, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said: 'As we go towards next week, the high pressure's still in the in some warmer air across the near coninent where temperatures are exceptionally high. 'That means we're going to see our temperatures rising.' He said the hot air could bring thundery showers to southern England in the early part of the week. 'But the big talking point will be the heat. We are likely to see temperatures rising. Getting into the low 30s looks quite likely as we go through the early part of next week,' he said, adding that temperatures in mid-30s Celcius are 'not out of the question'. The heatwave will be welcomed by many Londoners heading off on UK staycations, particularly those heading to the coast where temperatures are expected to be less intense. Newquay in Cornwall is expected to reach a high of 25C next week while Bournemouth is predicted to max out at 27C. That contrasts with predicted temperatures of 35C in Paris and 37C in Madrid as the continent swelters in a heatwave that has sparked devastating wildfires in southern France.
