Coronation Street's fans brand Eileen Grimshaw exit 'boring' and 'dragged out' as the character bids farewell to the cobbles after 25 years
Coronation Street 's Eileen Grimshaw has officially said goodbye to Weatherfield on Friday as fans branded the send off 'dragged out' and 'boring'. Sue Cleaver, who played the iconic ITV character, bid an emotional farewell to the iconic cobbles 25 years after her debut. The actress first appeared on the soap in 2000 when her character moved into number 11 with sons Jason and Todd Grimshaw. And despite the character capturing the hearts of the nation for more than two decades, fans felt show bosses had not given her the send off she deserved as she made a big move to Thailand. Eileen was being suspected in her sister Julie's tragic death but was thankfully was cleared by the police of any wrongdoing. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The beloved resident then decided to make the move to Thailand, and invest in her son Jason's bar. And it wasn't the only big change for her as she also ended her relationship with George after admitting she only loved him as a friend. In her final scenes, Eileen who worked at the StreetCars taxi service alongside Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson), was seen hopping into the back of his cab with Jason. Flocking to social media, TV buffs dubbed the episode as 'boring' which will 'go down in history as one of the most drawn out exits ever'. One penned: 'This will go down in history as one of the most drawn out exits ever,' as another wrote: 'This is a dreadful last episode for a long term character.' 'Well, that send off, wasn't very exciting,' tweeted a third, while another agreed: 'Goodness. Eileen's exit storyline is very, very, VERY bland.' Back in January it was revealed that Sue would be leaving the Cobbles to pursue other projects and two months later it was confirmed that the soap star had already filmed her final scenes. Eileen's exit from the show also included her son Jason, meaning that actor Ryan Thomas, 40, would be reprised his role for the storyline. Flocking to social media, TV buffs dubbed the episode as 'boring' which will 'go down in history as one of the most drawn out exits ever' Speaking to The Mirror about her on-screen son Ryan's involvement in the storyline, Sue said: 'Ryan was there from the start, and he was inconveniently living in Thailand, and it wouldn't be too far of a jump to expect that if Eileen was going to make a leap, that she would involve her son. 'And so when I decided to leave, like over a year ago, I rang Ryan, and I said, 'Ryan, I'm going to tell them that I'm going, and if they ask me about exits, I'd really like to say that you'd come back and take me out, but I don't know whether they'd go for it or not'. 'And he just went, 'Oh my gosh, of course, I would' Which was so lovely for me. 'And it was just so nice to have him back and filming those final scenes with him. It just felt like I'd come full circle really.' Sue isn't the only star who is saying goodbye to the cobbled streets. Mick (Joe Layton and Lou Michaelis (Farrel Hegarty) are leaving in the summer, as well as Adam Hussain who plays Adam Hussain. Sue Devaney, who plays Debbie Webster, is leaving the soap next year, as well as Billy Mayhew star Daniel Brocklebank. Yazmeen Nazir, Max Turner, Rob Donovan, Daisy Midgeley, Julie Carp and Craig Tinker have also left the show. Simon Barlow, Tommy Oprington and Beth Tinker left last year.

Coronation Street fans slam Eileen Grimshaw's ‘ridiculous' exit as she waves goodbye to the cobbles after 25 years
CORONATION Street fans were left baffled by Eileen Grimshaw's emotional farewell tonight after 25 years. Eileen, played by Sue Cleaver, told her heartbroken boyfriend George she didn't love him anymore before hopping in a cab with son Jason and announcing: 'I'm moving to Thailand.' 4 4 4 A cheery Eileen was waved off outside the Rovers after a few drinks with her Streetcars co-workers Steve and Tim. Eileen was greeted to a big treat by the Street Cars drivers, who beeped as she drove away. George was left in tears, having confronted Eileen with his suspicions that she wasn't attracted to him anymore. George was due to fly to Thailand with Eileen - and fans couldn't believe he'd throw away the money he spent on the ticket. Others slammed the idea of Eileen as a barmaid in Thailand, and moving halfway across the world on a whim. 'It's hilarious how they make moving so simple in soaps… 'She couldn't just up and leave to live permanently in Thailand without the correct visa,' one fan wrote. 'Can't see Eileen as a Thai barmaid,' another added, while a third joked: 'Seems they're giving Eileen a boring, miserable exit!' Long-time viewers also felt the storyline was a letdown compared to Eileen's dramatic past. 'Remember when Eileen got her head stuck in the railings? This has been mostly dull and miserable — which sums up Eileen in recent years,' one fan said. Even George's tearful goodbye was mocked, as one said:'George! You're not a murderer, a liar, thief, womaniser… that's why Eileen isn't interested in you, hon!' She also made the decision to make a fresh start in Thailand after being worn down by being suspected in her sister Julie's tragic death. In Friday's episode, Eileen's mind is turned to leaving the cobbles after hearing Theo's impassioned speech to his daughter Millie. Theo explains to his teenage daughter, that he can't return to live with her mum, his ex, because "it didn't feel right," after realising he was attracted to men and wanted to see where is his relationship with Todd went. George realised how Theo's speech moved Eileen and went to confront her after she'd been at the police who had just cleared her of any wrongdoing in Julie's death. The Sun exclusively revealed in January that she had quit the show after 25 years on the Salford set to look for new acting opportunities. 'The door is still firmly open but as I reached my 60th year, I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures and live fearlessly,' she explained. One of Sue's major next steps is to become a a regular panellist on after first appearing on the daytime panel show in 2023. Sue took a break from Corrie last year to star in Sister Act The Musical as Mother Superior and appeared in reality show I'm A Celebrity in 2022. Last year, Sue released her memoir A Work In Progress and revealed she was embracing being in her 60s. 4

Love Island star's secret link to former Islander and mum's unlikely job
EXCLUSIVE: Love Island 2025 star Blu Chegini has raised eyebrows with his incredibly honest and open attitude towards sex - and it turns out it's all thanks to his mum's very unusual job Incoming Love Island star Blu Chegini is already turning heads ahead of the show's explosive return on Monday, June 9 for its 12th series, but it's not just his piercing eyes or his shredded physique that have people talking. The 20-year-old, who hails from London and is a construction project manager, is packing a past that's guaranteed to raise eyebrows – from his secret connection to former Islander who appeared on the All Stars series earlier this year, to his rather unexpected upbringing inside his mum's sex shop in Spain. In an exclusive chat with The Mirror, Blu revealed that although he hasn't yet met Kaz, who famously appeared in Love Island 2018, their paths have more than just crossed in spirit - they both train at the same Muay Thai gym on the Costa Blanca. 'I haven't met her, but she trains at Real Paddy Club in Spain – the same gym I go to,' Blu explained. 'She trains with someone I know.' Blu, who's been boxing since he was a teen, credits Muay Thai for keeping him focused and humble. It's part of what he hopes to bring to the villa – discipline, confidence and a whole lot of charisma. But if you thought training with a former Islander was wild, wait until you hear about his home life. Blu's mum runs a sex shop in Spain – and not just any backstreet boutique. It's a fully-fledged, advice-giving, no-judgement haven for couples and curious minds alike. Asked if he ever got a family discount, Blu laughs: 'Yeah, pretty much. Anything you want!' While some might be mortified, Blu speaks candidly about what it was like growing up surrounded by adult toys and open conversations about sex. 'It was cool,' he says. 'Back then it was more taboo, but people eventually realised it's actually pretty awesome. A lot of my friends go to my mum for advice - it's a very open relationship.' His grounded, no-shame attitude towards sexuality could serve him well in the villa – especially now that ITV has confirmed it won't censor sex scenes in the 2025 series. For the first time since the show toned things down in recent years, producers say islanders who hook up will be shown doing so, sparking a major conversation online. So what does Blu – whose own mum gives out sex advice – make of it all? 'She hasn't asked me, but it wouldn't surprise her if it happened,' he admits. 'I'm not going in expecting it – whatever happens, happens.' ITV insiders say the move reflects a more 'authentic' approach to dating on screen, but for Blu, it's just another part of being open and honest about intimacy. That openness, he says, was modelled early on by his mum – and he's not shy about it. 'Oh yeah, full tour,' he chuckles, when we ask if he's ever taken a date to the family business. 'The shop gives everyone a whole experience – education and the shop assistants make you feel comfortable.' Blu's already won fans over with his straight-talking, down-to-earth charm. Describing himself as 'energetic and bubbly,' he's going into the villa hoping to be 'someone who can be there for others when they're having a tough time' – and says he's not the type to play games. Keeping coy about his type, and not specifying looks when speaking about his type, he is mostly into 'Someone who is family oriented, has a lot of love to give and a lot of love to receive. Personality goes a long way." With a connection to past royalty, a refreshingly honest view on modern love, and an upbringing like no other, Blu is about to make waves in Love Island 2025 – and we'll be watching every second. Love Island 2025 begins Monday 9 June at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
