Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's residence and the Regional Passport Office in Koramangala, Bengaluru, received a bomb threat early Friday morning. The threatening email, sent by an individual identifying as 'Daudee Shankar Jiwal', warned of suicide bomb attacks at both locations by 3:15 PM.
The message called the planned attacks as a 'holy event", citing the arrest of controversial Tamil YouTuber Savukku Shankar and the execution of 26/11 terrorist Ajmal Kasab as reasons behind the threat.
Shortly after the email was reported, Koramangala police searched the passport office premises. They have dismissed the threat as a hoax but confirmed that an investigation is underway to trace the email's origin and identify the sender.
Meanwhile, security has been increased around both the Chief Minister's residence and the passport office as a precaution.
The bomb threat also comes just two days after the deadly stampede outside Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) IPL victory celebration, which left 11 people dead and several others injured.
This is not the first time Karnataka Chief Minister has received a bomb threat. Days after a blast at Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru in March 2024, Siddaramaiah and two other cabinet ministers were targeted in a bomb threat email. The message had warned that explosions would rock the entire city.
The email was addressed to CM Siddaramaiah, his deputy DK Shivakumar, the Home Minister, and the Bengaluru Police Commissioner. It was reportedly sent by an individual named Shahid Khan.
According to the email, explosions were planned at busy locations such as restaurants, temples, buses, and trains. Khan also warned of bombs being planted at public events. The message demanded a ransom of 2.5 million dollars (over Rs 20 crore) to prevent the blasts from happening.

Muradpur's Solar-Powered Lift Irrigation Scheme Promises Lifeline to Farmers

Nagpur: Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday inaugurated the Muradpur lift irrigation scheme powered by floating solar panels, calling it a 'boon for farmers' that will not only improve agriculture but also uplift rural livelihoods in the region. The scheme, implemented at the Vadgaon reservoir on the Vena River in Umred taluka, aims to provide year-round water supply to over 465 acres of farmland using solar energy. Floating solar panels installed in the Rama Dam reservoir will generate enough electricity to power the entire irrigation system, drastically cutting energy costs and enhancing sustainability. Speaking at the inauguration, Gadkari said, "Water is the most critical need for our farmers. Regular supply will not only help in agriculture but also resolve many village-level problems. This solar-powered lift irrigation scheme will enable farmers to take up two to three crops annually and increase their income." The project is particularly significant for the local population, 53% of whom belong to tribal communities. Gadkari noted the region's social, educational, and economic backwardness, stating that the govt is working with the spirit of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay's Antyodaya philosophy to uplift the last person in society. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The event was attended by MP Shyamkumar Barve, MLA Sanjay Meshram, former MLA Sudhir Parwe, local Sarpanch Durga Alam, Deputy Sarpanch Gajanan Gadge, and other dignitaries. Highlighting the scheme's technical details, officials explained that water from the Vadgaon dam is lifted using pumps and transported through MS pipelines to two delivery chambers. From there, 20 HP pumps distribute water to farmlands through drip irrigation. Floating solar panels with a 270 KVA capacity are expected to generate 1,080 units of electricity daily, sufficient to operate all project-related electrical systems without cost. Gadkari urged farmers to form Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) to maximise the benefits of the scheme. "With modern practices like drone-based spraying and shared machinery, farmers can save Rs 5,000–Rs 6,000 per acre. Technology will boost both yield and profitability," he said. He also announced plans to build a 'Smart Village' nearby, spread over 10 acres with an investment of Rs 100 crore. The project will include 1,000 homes (450 sqft each), concrete roads, and assured lifelong water and electricity, along with a playground and garden. "Around 400 people have already registered for homes," he informed. With sustainable energy, efficient water management, and community-focused development, the Muradpur lift irrigation scheme is expected to set a benchmark in rural transformation through green technology. Court sends dismissed Vidhan Bhavan cashier to seven-year rigorous imprisonment in disproportionate assets case

Mumbai: A special court on Thursday convicted and sentenced a 56-year-old dismissed Vidhan Bhavan cashier to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for committing criminal misconduct and amassing assets worth Rs 15.95 lakh — over 100% disproportionate to his known sources of income between 1991 and 2004. During this period, the accused, Manoj Gaonkar, earned a total of Rs 14.75 lakh. His properties included domestic articles valued at Rs 1.5 lakh, a flat each at Borivli and Mira Road, and a farmhouse in Talegaon, Pune district. Gaonkar was also fined Rs 50,000. In a 143-page judgement, special judge Shashikant Eknathrao Bangar said, "The accused was a public servant, he held assets disproportionate to his known income during the check period. He failed to satisfactorily account for them, he committed criminal misconduct under the Prevention of Corruption Act. He committed forgery, cheating, and criminal breach of trust under IPC." In 2018, Gaonkar was convicted and sentenced to five years' simple imprisonment for siphoning off Rs 63,000 from an MLC's medical claim and misappropriating over Rs 52.3 lakh from the state govt funds — collectively Rs 53 lakh — in 2005. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pinga-Pinga e HBP? Tome isso 1x ao dia se tem mais de 40 anos Portal Saúde do Homem Clique aqui Undo The sentence in the 2005 case is suspended pending an appeal Gaonkar filed in the sessions court. The order for forfeiting the properties amassed illegally is also stayed. On March 15, 2005, the pay and accounts department of Mantralaya lodged a police complaint after an audit found that Gaonkar deposited only Rs 7,000 in the state govt's account in the RBI but submitted a forged receipt showing he deposited Rs 70,000 and even produced a cash book. It was alleged that the money belonged to then MLC Anil Gote's medical entitlement. During the same period, a departmental inquiry was initiated against Gaonkar, and it was found that he misappropriated another Rs 52.3 lakh, including Rs 10 lakh from the Rs 30 lakh that Parliament gave the state govt for a conference. Hence, the first FIR was lodged in 2005, and Gaonkar was subsequently charged. In 2009, a second case, a disproportionate assets case, was registered against him after it was found that he bought several properties with the misappropriated funds. This included a flat in Chikoowadi in Borivli then valued at Rs 13 lakh, a flat in Mira Road then valued at Rs 4 lakh, and a farmhouse in Talegaon then valued at Rs 3 lakh. In the disproportionate assets case, seeking stringent punishment, public prosecutor Prabhakar Tarange submitted that corruption cases are on the rise and are rarely detected and noticed for being brought to book. The judge said that the offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act are required to be dealt with a stringent view as per the observations of the Supreme Court. "...[T]he mitigating circumstances do not outweigh the aggravating circumstances against the accused, and there appears no reasonable justification for taking a lenient view while sentencing. " Relying on the deposition of the investigating officer, the judge noted that the investigation was detailed, trustworthy, and offered meticulous insight into disproportionate assets. "His findings, coupled with contemporaneous records and witness statements, establish prima facie evidence of the accused possessing property beyond his known lawful income. The prosecution's case stands substantially corroborated, and the deposition lays a strong foundation for further adjudication," the judge said.
