Gita Shlokas To Be Recited Daily In Haryana Schools' Morning Assemblies: Education Board Directive
Board Chairman Dr. Pawan Kumar, who led the event, emphasised the spiritual and cultural relevance of the initiative, stating: "The recitation of Shrimad Bhagavad Gita shlokas in morning prayers has now been implemented across all schools in Haryana. The objective is to help our coming generations-upon whom the future of the nation rests-understand the deep spiritual and philosophical wisdom hidden in the Gita, and imbibe it in their conduct. We wish to see a cultured generation that embodies ideal values and contributes towards fulfilling our Hon'ble Prime Minister's dream of making India a Vishwaguru (world leader)."
He further added: "As I have mentioned earlier, the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita is essentially the manual of life. It teaches us how our character should be, how we should behave in society, and what our responsibilities are."
Students recited Gita verses in the presence of a Gita scholar, Swami Gyananand, who joined the ceremony virtually and extended his blessings to the students.
Dr. Vinod Anchal, District President of the Health Project under Shri Krishna Kripa Samiti, said that the recitation of the Gita will help instil values in children, connect them with spirituality, and keep them away from substance abuse. He said the teachings of the Gita would shape children's behaviour and way of life in a positive and meaningful direction.
He added: "We all want the children of our society to become nation-builders-free from addiction and crime. The knowledge of the Gita will inspire not just the students, but society and the nation as a whole. It will guide us toward building a proud and glorious India-one that can once again be known as the golden bird."
The Board's decision has sparked statewide interest and is expected to initiate wider discussions on the role of spiritual teachings in modern education.

Agency: Udupi (Karnataka), Jul 25 (PTI) Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Friday said in a world increasingly plagued by violence and intolerance, the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita offer the sole path towards achieving lasting peace. He was speaking after inaugurating the Sri Krishna Janmashtami Mandalotsava at Rajangana in Udupi organised by Paryaya Sri Puthige Matha today. The 48-day festival, steeped in spiritual and cultural tradition, will take place from August 1 to September 17. 'The life of Lord Krishna offers profound lessons in Dharma Yoga, Karma Yoga and Bhakti Yoga. His teachings are timeless and especially relevant in the present era of unrest," Gehlot said. The Governor referred to Lord Krishna's guidance to Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita, stating that Nishkama Karma—performing one's duty without attachment—is a value the youth must adopt. 'Youngsters should embrace bhakti, kartavya and develop a fearless yet sensible mindset," he said. He praised the Sri Krishna Mutt in Udupi for being a beacon of Indian cultural and spiritual heritage. Gehlot also lauded Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji of Paryaya Sri Puthige Matha for spreading Sanatana Dharma globally through its branches. He said festivals like the Mandalotsava not only celebrate religious traditions but also promote social harmony and instil cultural pride. 'Lord Krishna incarnated to uphold dharma and defeat adharma. His life continues to guide us towards righteousness, compassion and courage," the Governor said. Kalyanaraman said in a discourse that, though Arjuna and Krishna had met several times before, Arjuna had not asked for Krishna's counsel before. Only when he was confused on the battlefield did he ask Krishna to tender saner advice. The Gita, though told by the Lord to Arjuna, is still read and followed by people today. Krishna advised Arjuna, 'You would kill only the mortal coils of the enemies but not their souls, which are indestructible.' Krishna also cautioned Arjuna not to grieve in discharging his duties. 'Holding pleasure and pain, gain and loss, victory and defeat, gird yourself up for the battle.' (Sukha Dukhe samey kruthva - Ch 2-Verse 38). Thiruvalluvar says, 'Perseverance leads to prosperity, and effortlessness results in poverty.' - Kural 616 ) A person should try to cling to the feet of God as long as the life air is in him. It is easy to preach but difficult to follow. Lord Krishna advised Arjuna on the duties of a man, citing his own example as Rama. If a person expects anything from others, he loses himself. People are expected to perform their duties, leaving the outcome of their efforts to God.

This directive applies to secondary and senior secondary students seeking a second attempt or performance enhancement in their examinations. The circular, issued under No. BSEH/ASE/2025 dated July 22, 2025, is being circulated among all school heads affiliated with the Haryana Board. It reiterates the criteria for identifying students who have either failed in one or more subjects (ER) or wish to improve their scores despite qualifying (EIOP). Mandatory compliance for heads of institutions The Board has strictly instructed all principals to ensure accurate classification and data entry of such students on the BSEH portal. The deadline for submitting details of ER and EIOP candidates is July 30, 2025. No entries will be accepted beyond this date under any circumstances, the Board warned. Categories defined As per the notification, students who appeared in the March 2025 Board Exams and failed in one or more subjects will be tagged as Essential Repeat (ER).
