Angry Kamal Haasan scolds fan for repeatedly insisting he pose with a sword at Makkal Needhi Maiamevent. Watch
At the meeting of Kamal's political party Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), many fans came to meet him. As he stood on stage, a person approached him with a sword. He tried to get it out of the scabbard, asking Kamal to pose with it. The actor was repeatedly seen smiling and shaking his head at first as he held the sword.
The person kept urging him and was even seen trying to untie the knot on the scabbard. When the person was adamant about getting Kamal to pose with the sword, he got angry and scolded the person as well as his friends. Kamal was seen pointing in front of him as he talked to the people. A police officer also intervened, making sure that the person didn't force Kamal to pose with the sword.
The video ended with Kamal nodding his head and asking the group to move forward. He even smiled at them.
Reacting to the post, a person said, "You should mention why #KamalHaasan got angry for the sword gift. Also, you should have mentioned what he told his party member. He said, 'We can keep a book and a pen in our hands, not a sword.' He could have taken a photo raising the sword like others. He didn't. Good politician." A comment read, "He remains with his principle always, sword should be down, pen with book should be in hand."
Kamal, president of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), and five others were elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu on Thursday. They received election certificates from the Returning Officer Subramani at the Chennai Secretariat. The five others elected are DMK's Poet Salma (A Rokkaiah Malik), SR Sivalingam, P Wilson (who enters his second term), and AIADMK's IS Inbadurai and Dhanapal.
Fans saw Kamal last in Mani Ratnam's Thug Life. The movie, also starring Trisha Krishnan and Silambarasan TR, has been facing trouble in Karnataka after Kamal's remarks on Kannada language sparked anger among local groups, including the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC).
The film's release in the state has been banned until the actor issues a public apology for his statement. On June 13, the Supreme Court sought the Karnataka government's response to a plea seeking protection from threats against the screening of Thug Life. Thug Life releases elsewhere on June 6 to mixed reviews and diminishing box office returns.

The MPs raised slogans against the SIR exercise, and also protested against the blockade by security staff. Opposition members protesting SIR in Rajya Sabha blocked by marshals
The Rajya Sabha failed to function on Friday (August 1, 2025), as the Opposition intensified its protest demanding a discussion on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar. The opposition members who tried to enter the well of the House were blocked by marshals leading to a written complaint by the Leader of Opposition, and Congress president, Mallikarjun Kharge to Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Harivansh objecting to the incident. The deputy chairman rejected these notices citing precedents, leading to an uproar from the Opposition benches. Then, Rashtriya Janata Dal's senior leader Manoj Kumar Jha, urged the chair to allow discussion on SIR. But the deputy chairman said that since the Election Commission is a constitutional body and the issue is sub-judice, he cannot allow discussion on it. 'This is a sub judice matter and the rules of this House are very clear. I cannot allow (discussion),' he said, and urged the protesting members to return to their seats. However, the protests continued. The house was adjourned till 12:00 noon. When it reconvened, the opposition renewed its protest, with TMC's Rajya Sabha Parliamentary Party leader Derek O' Brien, DMK's floor leader Tiruchi Siva and AAP's floor leader Sanjay Singh trooped into the well of the house. Even before they could step in, the security personnel blocked their path. But the three along with a few other members pushed past the blockade. The house was adjourned for the day. Mr. Kharge in his letter to Rajya Sabha deputy chairman, said that he was shocked and astonished to see CISF personnel made to run in the House when members are exercising their democratic rights. Writing on behalf of the Opposition parties, the Leader of Opposition said that this was the second time such an incident was being repeated. 'We saw this yesterday and we saw this today as well. Has our Parliament been reduced to such a level? This is most objectionable and we condemn it unequivocally,' he said. He further added, 'We expect that in future CISF personnel will not come trooping in the well of the House when members are raising important issues of public concern,' Mr. Kharge said in his letter to Harivansh.
