The excitement that followed the announcement that Hubig's was getting into the king cake game was almost like Mardi Gras had started early this year.
Why it matters: The cakes have been tough to find, but I finally tried a slice.
Catch up quick: Hubig's tapped Maple Street patisserie co-founder Ziggy Cichowski to make the cakes, according to The Times-Picayune, and started shipping them to select stores at the start of the year.
Once they were more widely available, they were still fairly tough to find because they were scooped up so quickly.
Yes, but: Mardi Gras miracles do happen.
During the Super Bowl, the Louisiana Economic Development team held a press event at its Louisiana NOW Pavilion — and King Cake Snob brought the goods.
In a display with a half-dozen or so cakes, the Hubig's apple king cake was among them.
Victory!
Dig in: This is no oversize Hubig's hand pie.
The cake was a blend of light brioche and Hubig's usual yummy apple filling, and I hope to get my hands on a full cake for my household next year.
💭 Thought bubble from Axios' Carlie Kollath Wells: In another fun Mardi Gras twist, I've had no problem finding Hubig's traditional at Dorignac's this week.
I think it tastes like a king cake cousin to Manny Randazzo's version.

Travis Kelce And Taylor Swift Moving from ‘Vacation Mode' to Minicamp
Travis Kelce And Taylor Swift Moving from 'Vacation Mode' to Minicamp originally appeared on Athlon Sports. A shroud of uncertainty surrounded Travis Kelce following the Kansas City Chiefs' embarrassing loss in Super Bowl LIX. Many anticipated the future Hall of Fame tight end retiring from football had the Chiefs won and made history with a "three-peat." Advertisement Unfortunately, that was not the case and he declined to provide any clarity on his future postgame. It has since been revealed that he will suit up for one more season, taking on a farewell tour with the Chiefs. But part of his brief absence from the spotlight had to do simply with getting away. He and his girlfriend, pop music megastar Taylor Swift, wanted some time to escape together. Swift had just finished her worldwide Eras Tour and Kelce completed another grueling and lengthy season. The NFL's biggest power couple have gotten their time together, enjoying life without cameras or critics following their every step. The latest of their offseason fun came Wednesday night when the couple was seen heading to dinner, enjoying the night together in Florida. Advertisement Surely the two will be up for more adventures in the future, but the time of the offseason is winding down. Kelce is not in the grind of the season just yet, but the Chiefs have some key dates coming up on the calendar. Mandatory minicamp begins next week for Kansas City, just over a month out from training camp set to begin on July 21. Before too long, No. 87 will be back on the field for his final campaign. And with the relationship still going strong, fans should expect to see Swift watching from a luxury suite per usual, cheering on her beau with friends and family gathered around. Travis Kelce, Jason Kelce Make Chiefs Announcement on Tuesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. While former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce is nearing two seasons removed from his NFL retirement, his younger brother, Travis Kelce, is preparing for his 13th season with the Kansas City Chiefs. Advertisement The two had their fair share of battles during their careers, most recently in Super Bowl LVII when Travis and the Chiefs defeated Jason and the Eagles 38-35. In September 2022, when both brothers were still playing, Travis and Jason started their own podcast together called "New Heights," bringing in celebrity guests to speak in each episode. On Tuesday, the Kelce brothers revealed the latest guest for their podcast: Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. "Joining us today from Whitinsville, Massachusetts, Jason Kelce said. "He's been a football coach for over 40 years. Had nearly two dozen coaching roles in three countries. A four-time Super Bowl champion. The only NFL coordinator to win a Super Bowl with two different franchises. Tom Brady has called him the bane of my existence. And he is now entering his seventh year with the Chiefs as the most successful coordinator in franchise history. Please welcome Steve Spagnuolo." Spagnuolo has been with the Chiefs since 2019, winning four Super Bowls alongside Travis. Before that, he served in numerous positions for multiple different NFL teams. Advertisement NFL fans loved the Kelce brothers' next podcast guest, taking to social media to leave their thoughts. "Oh, this is GREAT!!!!! Hell yeah!" one fan said. "SPAGS!!! Aaron Rodgers is off the free agent and dating markets. Steelers QB says he recently got married
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Aaron Rodgers added another ring to his collection before he even signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The four-time NFL MVP quarterback and Super Bowl champion said Tuesday after his first practice with the Steelers that he got married 'a couple months ago." Rodgers was spotted wearing a ring on his left ring finger in a photo the Steelers shared after the 41-year-old signed a one-year deal to join the team for the 2025 season. When asked if the ring was an indication he was married, Rodgers replied, 'Yeah, it's a wedding ring.' He wore the ring on Tuesday while participating in drills with his new team. Rodgers has revealed little about his bride. During an appearance on 'The Pat McAfee Show' last fall, he mentioned he was dating a woman named Brittani but offered no other details. His previous dating history includes long-term relationships with race car driver Danica Patrick and actors Olivia Munn and Shailene Woodley.
