Vijay Deverakonda clarifies viral tribal remarks: I express my sincere regret

India Today03-05-2025

Actor Vijay Deverakonda shared a statement and clarified his remarks on the Tribal community at the 'Retro' audio launch. He stated that he never intended to hurt the sentiments of any community, especially the Scheduled Tribes. In response to the backlash over his recent comments, Vijay Deverakonda issued a heartfelt statement that read, 'It has come to my attention that a remark I made during the Retro audio launch event has caused concern among some members of the public. I wish to sincerely clarify: there was absolutely no intention to hurt or target any community, especially our Scheduled Tribes, who I deeply respect and consider an integral part of our country.'advertisement'I was speaking about unity, about how India is one, our people are one, and how we must move forward together. In what world would I, while urging us to stand united as a country, deliberately discriminate against any group of Indians — all of whom I see as my family, like my brothers,' he clarified.
To further clarify his intent, he explained the historical context of his choice of words, he said, 'The word "tribe," as I used it, was meant in the historical and dictionary sense — referring to a time centuries ago when human society globally was organized into tribes and clans, often in conflict. It was never a reference to the Scheduled Tribes classification, which was introduced during colonial and post-colonial India and formalized only in the mid-20th century — not even 100 years ago.'advertisementTowards the end, he apologised to those who felt hurt by his words and message. 'If any part of my message was misunderstood or hurtful, I express my sincere regret. My only aim was to speak of peace, progress, and togetherness. I remain committed to using my platform to uplift and unify — never to divide,' he concluded. At the event, the actor spoke about the tragic Pahalgam incident in Kashmir, stating, "The solution to what is happening in Kashmir is also to educate them (terrorists) and ensure they don't get brainwashed. What will they achieve? Kashmir belongs to India, and Kashmiris are ours. India doesn't even need to attack Pakistan because Pakistanis themselves are fed up with their government and will attack them if this continues. They behave like tribals did 500 years ago, fighting without common sense.'According to Telangana Today, Hyderabad lawyer Lal Chauhan filed the case based on comments Vijay made at the pre-release event of Suriya's 'Retro'.According to the report, the complaint filed at the SR Nagar police station on Thursday, alleging that during his speech on the Pahalgam terror attack, the 'Geetha Govindam' actor compared the incident to centuries-old conflicts between tribal communities.Must Watch

Aamir Khan on photo with Turkey President Erdogan, receiving hate post Operation Sindoor: ‘I met him when Indian govt was helping…'

India's trade relations with Turkey and Azerbaijan recently came under strain due to Ankara and Baku backing Islamabad and condemning India's recent strikes on terror camps in Pakistan. Following their support to Pakistan, calls for ban on Turkish goods and tourism have surfaced across the country. Amid this, photos of Aamir Khan with Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his wife Emine Erdogan has resurfaced on social media, with trolls targeting the actor for his meeting with the state head of the country which supported Pakistan in its recent attack on India. Now, Aamir has issued a clarification regarding the controversial pictures. 'Turkey did a very wrong thing, and every Indian has been hurt by that,' Aamir said in an interview with India TV, adding, 'A few years ago, there was an earthquake in Turkey. The Indian government was the first to help them then. At that time, even our government didn't know, just like I didn't when I went to meet Erdogan, that they'd do this to us seven years later. We extended our hand in friendship and helped them during a crisis, and this is what they do to us?' Aamir clarified that his photo with Recep is from his visit to Turkey in 2017. 'Our government was also supporting Turkey at that time,' argued Aamir. He claimed that a photo with Turkey's first lady Emine Erdogan, which is believed to be from his visit to the country in 2020 during the filming of his 2022 film Laal Singh Chaddha, in fact dates even prior to 2017. 'As a celebrity and actor, I'm an ambassador of the country when I visit another nation. So if someone invites me for a tea, saying no doesn't feel right,' explained Aamir. He supported Indians' decision to boycott Turkey and cancel their travel plans to the country. He added, 'They did a very right thing. We shouldn't support Turkey at all. They're supporting Pakistan during our conflict despite us having helped them. How is that fair?' India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 to destroy nine terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir in retaliation for the Kashmir's Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. All subsequent retaliations for Pakistani offensives were carried out under Operation Sindoor. Online travel platforms such as EaseMyTrip and Ixigo issued advisories against visiting Turkey and Azerbaijan. Indian traders too started boycotting Turkish products such as apples and marble.
