Iggy Pop on Closing Out ‘Superman' Soundtrack: Hero is 'the Best Friend You Could Have'
That much became obvious with his 'Awesome Mix' from the Guardians of the Galaxy films, which featured '70s soul jams like Blue Swede's 'Hooked on a Feeling' and Redbone's 'Come and Get Your Love,' and the edgier The Suicide Squad soundtrack, which moved into '80s punk territory with The Jim Carroll Band's 'People Who Died' and 'Hey' by Pixies.

With Superman, he's staying the punk rock course — but brings us into the 21st century with 'Punkrocker,' produced by Swedish dance music outfit Teddybears and sung by arguably the greatest punk rocker of all time, Iggy Pop.
The song underscores the blockbuster's sweetly emotional final scene and continues into the closing credits, capping the well-reviewed and well-attended DC Studios reboot on just the right note of poignant-cool.
Pop, 78, is tickled at playing such a key role in one of the summer's biggest hits.
'I always thought the track had soul,' he tells The Hollywood Reporter from Europe, where he is currently on tour. 'Superman is the best friend you could have.'
The Man of Steel could turn out to be a good friend to Pop in more ways than one. 'Punkrocker' saw significant gains after opening weekend; according to data from Luminate, the song went from 1,572 streams on July 4 to nearly 190,500 on July 12, the day after Superman's opening night.
Another song on the Superman soundtrack, '5 Years Time' — a 2007 folk rock single from the English band Noah and the Whale — had just over 7,300 streams on July 4, but by July 12 had gone up to 85,400, a 1000 percent increase.
Only time will tell if those gains are a sign of more significant boosts to come. 'Hooked on a Feeling' and 'Come and Get Your Love' saw significant resurgences because of their prominent placements in Guardians films. The Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 went triple-platinum, while Vol. 2 for the second film went platinum.

Your Weekly Work Horoscope for The Week of July 21, 2025
Your Weekly Work Horoscope for The Week of July 21, 2025. Discover your Weekly Work Horoscope for each zodiac sign here. Aries The most important thing on Monday is to be strong-willed and take action. All week, in fact, you'll be driving for success, and you want to set the tone early. On Tuesday, you're an opportunist almost to a fault. Make sure you're perfectly candid with everyone or your reputation could take a hit on Wednesday. By Thursday, you will have already accomplished some of your goals for the week. You can spend Friday setting your sights on even bigger plans. This weekend, you really should try to get some deep sleep. The less you do on Sunday the better. Taurus Part of you wants to take a financial risk on Monday, but it won't be worth it. This is not going to be a big moneymaking week. Tuesday and Wednesday, invest your energy in your coworkers and business partners. Do your best to see things from their perspective. Thursday is going to be a weird day for a variety of reasons, all of them outside of your control, and Friday is going to be defined by a strange power struggle that's somehow related to Thursday's weirdness. Unload your work worries to your friends over the weekend and you'll feel much better. Gemini Ally yourself with a partner on Monday. You are great working solo on most projects, but this project is bigger than you are. On Tuesday and Wednesday, you might feel a bit confused about what you're doing versus what this other person is doing. Hash out how you two are going to divide up the work. As good as you are, there are still things you can learn from other people. Friday, in particular, will be rich with learning experiences. By week's end, you'll see something from a radically new perspective. Cancer You've tired yourself out doing things for other people. On Monday, you should do something for yourself. Your energy level might be bit low. If there's any way you could take a nap during lunch, that'd be amazing. Tuesday and Wednesday, you might be feeling sluggish, too. And you're not in the mood to deal with extreme personalities at work. (Call in sick? Is that a possibility?) Thursday and Friday, you'll be back to your usual self, although you still may have trouble connecting with co-workers in a meaningful way. It won't be until Saturday that your energy really picks up again. Matter of fact, the weekend could be a blast. Leo The week begins with a bright burst of energy and, more than likely, an escalation of excitement in your love life. You'll come to work tap dancing, and you won't stop until day's end. Tuesday and Wednesday, others might mistake your happiness for arrogance. Listen to them and take an interest in their lives and you'll nip that misconception in the bud. If a bizarre interaction on Thursday turns into a power struggle, be deferential and take the high road. On Friday, you're full of creative solutions to any problem that arises. And this weekend sees you dreaming up brilliant ideas as well. Prepare yourself to take on each month with your personalized Monthly Horoscope! Virgo You'd love to skip the next three stages in your current project, but that's just not going to happen. Not this week. Not with this project. On Monday, you should stick to the plan and get everything done in order. As soon as Tuesday (and certainly by Wednesday), your diligence will pay off. Your amazing competence is not going unnoticed these days, and the more your work is upheld as an example to everyone else, the better work you want to do. On Thursday or Friday, you could propose some business innovations that go over swimmingly. This weekend, buoyed by your successes this week, you're not going to feel like doing much at all. Libra Communicate what you're feeling on Monday. You're brilliant at expressing yourself and everyone is in the mood to listen. You'll get some pretty intelligent responses to what you have to say, but you're still going to feel in a funk on Tuesday and Wednesday. That's how life and, specifically, work goes sometimes. Shake things up on Thursday. Try something new. Look at your job in a different way. Ask an unlikely person for advice. You will feel better almost immediately. Friday, compared to Tuesday or Wednesday, will be a proverbial walk in the park. Parks may figure strongly into your weekend as well. Scorpio Caught up in the moment, you could be on the verge of buying tons of new office furniture on Monday. But can you justify the expense? Isn't the office furniture you already have just fine? Whatever you're itching to buy at the beginning of the week, hold off. By Wednesday, you could have a complete change of heart. In fact, shrewdness and self-control are big themes for you midweek. But there's a chance that your wild impulse to get new furniture will translate to your home life on Thursday or Friday. (Those will be quiet workdays.) This weekend, don't spend a second thinking about work. Focus on romance instead. Sagittarius The week begins on an unexpectedly happy note. Everyone else has got the Monday blues, but you're as bright and weightless as a butterfly. No one has a mind quite like yours, and on Wednesday, you're going to get a chance to demonstrate how useful your creativity can be when it comes to building a business. Later in the week, you'll impress a group of strangers. By the end of the day Friday, you're going to be everyone's new best pal. It will be quite a week, and it will leave you wiped. Capricorn With some discipline, you'll be able to get a lot done on Monday. You still have a lot ahead of you, but, you know, once begun is half done and all that. Tuesday and Wednesday, people are going to notice what a rock star you are these days. As glamorous as it feels, you take this kind of success pretty seriously, and on Thursday and Friday, you'll be consumed by aggressive strategic planning. Money figures strongly at the very end of the workweek. Shrewdly enough, you'll be able to have fun without spending a dime this weekend. Aquarius A new member of the work team could start on Monday. Or maybe it's just a recent hire who's starting to make an impression. You'd do well to get to know more about this person. There's a chance you'll really connect. Midweek, you'll be too busy for friendship building, but things should calm down a bit by Thursday and you'll have time to gaze out the window or chitchat. On Friday, someone is duly impressed by your brilliance, and their flattery will set the tone for an action-packed (though potentially cash-strapped) weekend. Pisces Give your full attention to an authority figure on Monday. As righteous and level-headed as you have been at work lately, you have to respect the big boss's opinion even if it differs from your own. Tuesday or Wednesday, someone with your supervisor's ear is going to put in a good word for you, and on Thursday, someone is going to defer to your expertise, much to your gratification. On Friday, you might have a hard time focusing, but give yourself a break. You've had a tense week, and you deserve a relaxing end to it and a relaxing weekend. Find your cosmic purpose. How Clemson football's Dabo Swinney mistook LSU's Brian Kelly for a country singer this summer
CLEMSON — Somehow Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney confused his Week 1 coaching opponent with a musician while on vacation this summer. Swinney said July 15 during Clemson's preseason availability that he and his wife, Kathleen, visited Grayton Beach in Florida with one of his brothers and his wife, who informed Dabo and Kathleen that Brian Kelley was having a concert there, and the musician's wife also has a gift shop there. Assuming it was LSU coach Brian Kelly, Dabo said Kathleen purchased an item to support the shop, and Dabo took pictures of the concert stage and imagery and sent them to his first-week opponent. It wasn't until Dabo Swinney's brother's friend told Kathleen it was Brian Kelley, the country singer from the group Florida Georgia Line, that they realized their mistake. "Kath goes, 'Babe, it's Brian Kelley. He's a singer with the Florida Georgia Line,' and I went 'What?' " Dabo Swinney said. "I've been firing all these pictures off to Brian Kelly. He's probably over there saying, 'What is this dude doing?' " Swinney admitted the LSU coach was probably confused about the context of the photos but he had responded to the messages anyway, saying something along the lines of "You can't get away from Brian Kelly." How could he? It is one of the most anticipated matchups this season. Clemson hosts LSU on Aug. 30 (7:30 p.m. ET, ABC) at Memorial Stadium. Both teams have quarterbacks with Heisman Trophy hopes (Clemson's Cade Klubnik, LSU's Garrett Nussmeier) and Hall of Fame-level coaching. Klubnik said last month that he began preparing for the marquee game during the first week of July. Kelly also has emphasized the importance of this matchup, saying at SEC media days on July 14 that Clemson's logo has been plastered on workout bags at LSU's facility this summer for motivation. MORE: Our suggestions for Clemson as revenue sharing starts from alcohol deals to Memorial Stadium concerts "We've got a Clemson paw print on the bags that we hit every day," Kelly said. "It's on every monitor in the building to go 1-0. I think it was important to have a tangible, specific goal for us to start the season." Kelly, who is 0-3 in Week 1 games in his LSU tenure, said Tiger Stadium is the real "Death Valley," which is what Clemson calls Memorial Stadium. His comments didn't seem to bother Swinney. "It ain't gonna have nothing to do with blocking and tackling and executing it on game day, so it makes it fun, but just go focus on what we gotta do," Swinney said. He said he will share a laugh with Kelly if he sees the video of Swinney talking about the case of mistaken identity. He also has extended an invite to Florida Georgia Line's Brian Kelley to come perform at Clemson. Derrian Carter covers Clemson athletics for The Greenville News and the USA TODAY Network.
