AMMA general body meet to decide on new executive committee

The Hindu19-06-2025
A general body meeting of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes to be held here on June 22 may decide on whether the current ad-hoc committee led by actor Mohanlal should be re-elected as the executive committee for the next three years.
The previous executive committee, with the actor as its president, was disbanded in August 2024 in the wake of the allegations of sexual assault and misbehaviour raised against its members, including the office-bearers following the release of the K. Hema Committee report that probed the problems faced by women in the Malayalam film industry.
To continue with the daily functioning of the association, an ad-hoc committee was formed comprising the members of the disbanded executive committee. Mr. Mohanlal, who attended a recent meeting of the ad-hoc committee, is learnt to have expressed his willingness to lead the executive committee, if the rest of the ad-hoc committee members are permitted to continue in the new executive committee.
Jayan Cherthala, member of the ad-hoc committee, said that the general body has the powers to take a call on whether the ad-hoc committee should be re-elected as the next executive committee. It is learnt that Mr. Mohanlal is likely to stay away, if a demand for holding fresh elections is raised at the general body meeting. The previous disbanded committee had a tenure up to 2027.

Travelling by bus is a special experience in the capital, said actor Mohanlal. He was speaking after taking part in the 'Orma Express' programme organised as part of a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) expo in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday. Taking a trip down memory lane, the actor said he had extensively travelled by bus during his college days. At that time, there were no buses like the ones available today. The road transport facilities have improved a lot today compared to that time, he said. Lauding Transport Minister K. B. As the travel facilities in a country improve, that country will move forward, added the actor. Old bus Mr. Ganesh Kumar and Mr. Mohanlal stood together on the steps of an old KSRTC bus that had been specially arranged for the event of Thursday so as to refresh their old memories. Later, they boarded the new Volvo bus rolled out by the KSRTC. Filmmaker Priyadarshan and actors Maniyanpilla Raju and Nandu, among others, had travelled with Mr. Ganesh Kumar on the first journey on Wednesday. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who flagged off the 143 new KSRTC buses and comprehensive digitalisation in the KSRTC on Thursday, hoped that the public utility would reach new heights with the introduction of the advanced buses and new facilities. The BS6 category buses, which includes AC sleeper, AC seater-cum- sleeper, AC seater, premium superfast, fast passenger, fast passenger-link buses connecting districts, and mini buses, equipped with state-of-the-art safety systems and quality travel facilities, will be pressed in on various long-distance, inter and intra-district routes. The berths on the sleeper buses have AC vents, reading lights, mobile holder, plug point, bottle holder, luggage space, and curtains. The buses have smart TVs, and are fitted with cameras inside and outside. The seats and berths on the seater-cum-sleeper buses have been arranged in a 2+1 layout. The fast passenger-link buses have also been given new colours.
