Amazon Prime Day 2025 electronics deals: Top discounts on Apple, Shark and more
Sony is a brand that needs no introduction. And while it may no longer be the striding all-consumer-tech colossus it once was back when it lent its hand to phones, laptops and TVs, when it comes to personal audio, the big S is still winning over the fans. Especially now that said person's audio is more affordable than ever.
In this instance, I speak of the WH-CH720N over-ears that became available much earlier this year. Priced at just under the ton mark on release, savvy ear-users can now pick these up for just £64. No, your eyes do not deceive you.
So, what do you get for this next-to-nothing, cost-of-living-pleasing price? For a start, a relatively minimalist-looking pair of ear-huggers with all the requisite buttons required to play and pause, skip back and forth, adjust volume and answer calls placed neatly on the right earcup. Which sees to the basics. Then you have Bluetooth 5.2 offering both a reliable connection and multi-point to keep your essential gadgets paired up. Effective ANC keeps unwanted racket at bay, while an Ambient option lets you allow some sound in on the off-chance you need to keep an ear out.
Then there's the sound. Featuring a more diminutive set of 30mm drivers, what they may lack in scale is more than made up for by the inclusion of 360 Reality Audio which works to surround you in a nicely balanced bubble of audio that lends your music a welcome feel of space, helping to fend-off the annoying but inevitable issue of listening fatigue.
Light too, at just 192g, they may not be the most comfortable cans I've had clamped to my noggin during the course of these reviews, but for £64, they're more than acceptable.
With the Sony Headphones Connect app available to make minor adjustments to set-up, quality, relatively expense-free ANC is now available for the masses.

Technology: Ugreen Nexode Power Bank
Good points? The 20,000 mAh battery packs enough juice to top up a gaming laptop about 1.3 times or give nearly four full charges to an iPhone 16 Pro making it ideal for long days away from wall outlets. With an output of 165w the device enables simultaneous fast charging of a laptop, tablet, and phone. There's also a trickle charge mode for smaller devices like earbuds and smartwatches. The retractable 65cm USB-C cable offers adjustable lengths to avoid cable mess and a magnetic tip keeps the cable secure when stowed. Both the built-in cable and USB-C port support 100w bidirectional charging which means you can recharge the Nexode just as fast as you can charge your gadgets. Its TFT display offers real-time data on power output, battery level and voltage giving more insight than most power banks. The charger utilises a 13-layer safety system which includes a feature that constantly checks the device temperature for overheating. This sets the Nexode apart from other power banks and gives greater peace of mind. Bad points? At around 530g it's heavier than average phone-focused power banks and its bulk (146 x 54 x 50mm) make it not exactly pocket friendly. Best for ... Those mule-like professionals, travellers, and tech enthusiasts who rely on and cart around laptops, tablets, and phones on the go. Avoid if ... You only need to charge a phone occasionally or are looking for something lightweight and budget friendly. It's likely overkill for users who don't travel often or don't use power-hungry devices regularly. Score: 9/10 Ugreen Nexode Power Bank, £59.99 (

Save £100 on 'game changer' wireless earbuds with near-perfect rating and 'fantastic sound'
These sports earbuds fit snugly thanks to their earhooks and are a 'game changer' for workouts. Wireless earbuds have become a part of daily life for many of us. Whether that's heading for a stroll, commuting to work, or, for the more fitness -minded, heading for a run or hitting the gym. The Bluetooth connectivity means there's no faffing about with wires, which makes them extra handy. Big name brands have some of the top products, like the Apple AirPods, but these come with a hefty price tag. Thankfully, over on Amazon, the Hupoaf Wireless Earbuds are enjoying an 82 per cent discount. Dropping from £129.99 to just £23.99, you can currently save over £100 on these "game changer" products. It should be noted that this deal is exclusive to Prime members. The Hupoaf Wireless Earbuds offer "crystal clear calls", according to Amazon, thanks to their Hi-Fi stereo surround sound and upgraded Bluetooth 5.4 technology. They boast up to 50 hours of playtime, thanks to the portable charging case, which handily lets you know your battery percentage. These earbuds have been designed for fitness with a "soft and flexible" earhook structure to fit snugly around your ears without falling out. Thanks to their comfort and stability, as well as being waterproof, they are a great choice for running or workouts. There are three colourways to choose from; black, rose gold, and pink - though the latter two are £24.99. Each earbud has multi-function touch panels to allow you to easily take calls or change the volume, and they are super lightweight at just 6g. For those looking at the higher end of the scale, Apple's AirPods Pro 2 are currently £229 on Argos, where they boast a 4.8-star rating from over 1,400 reviews. Shoppers after a more budget-friendly can pick up Cillso's Wireless Earbuds on Amazon for £19.99. They come in four colours and, like the Hupoaf earbuds, are currently enjoying a hefty price cut. Customers have raved over the Hupoaf Wireless Earbuds, which have a near-perfect 4.9-star rating on Amazon. One user said: "These wireless sports earphones are a real game changer for my workout. "The earhook design is brilliant — they fit securely no matter how hard I work out, which was a big problem with other earphones. The sound quality is fantastic, with clear sound and just the right bass to motivate me." Another shopper described them as "a fantastic choice for anyone looking for reliable, high-quality headphones for workouts or daily use." They added: "The earhooks provide a secure fit, even during intense activities, and the IP7 waterproof rating ensures they hold up against sweat and rain. "The sound quality is impressive, delivering clear audio and strong bass, while the dual LED display makes it easy to keep track of the battery level. Overall, these earbuds offer great value for anyone who needs durable and comfortable wireless headphones for running, gym, or everyday use." The earbuds have proved so popular that there are only a handful of three or four-star reviews, and nothing below that. A couple of otherwise satisfied customers did mention that the sound wasn't quite as good as the big brands. Tech deal of the week Shoppers keen to take their fitness to the next level would benefit from purchasing a smartwatch. One of which is on the popular Jugeman Smartwatch. Normally retailing for £99.99, shoppers can now snap up this 4.8 star rated gadget with the pink strap for only £22.79 in a limited time deal. Boasting a 1.92-inch HD touch screen, shoppers can truly make this smartwatch their own as it comes with over 220 personalised watch faces to choose from. Featuring an ultra lightweight design to provide a comfortable and relaxed fit, the smartwatch will monitor your heart rate throughout the day as well as analyse your sleep. On top of this, the budget watch can track over 113 sports and monitor how many calories you have burned. Shoppers will also be able to use a range of other features, such as music control, weather forecast, find my phone, as well as receive calls, texts and social media notifications One delighted shopper said: "I'm genuinely impressed with this smartwatch! It looks sleek and modern, and the bright display is easy to read even in daylight. The features are exactly what I need fitness tracking, notifications, heart rate monitoring, and more. "The orange strap adds a fun and sporty touch, and it's surprisingly comfortable to wear all day. Setup was quick and straightforward, and the battery life is better than expected. For the price, this watch offers outstanding value. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an affordable yet high-quality fitness tracker!" To buy the Jugeman Smartwatch, click HERE. One such review read: "Since they are headphones for less than £25, don't expect TOP sound quality. It lacks clarity, it sounds a little dirty; having said that, of course, they sound very good considering the price." Someone else rated the sound a 8/10, saying they were "perfect for sports use" but that users shouldn't "expect studio audio". Another five-star reviewer raved about using the earbuds for exercise. They said: "A lightweight pair of earbuds that loop over the ears is reassuring for jogs, intense sports, or random house chores. After many uses, the fit never caused soreness, and they slip back into the case for a quick recharge." To get the Hupoaf Wireless Earbuds for just £23.99, click HERE. Why is Sony trying to kill the concept of the video game console?
A reader worries that Sony's plans to make more of their games multiformat will destroy the entire concept of consoles, as they follow the same path as Xbox. At this point I think it's clear that Xbox is dead. They're the biggest publishers in the West but at such a terrible cost it's almost poetic. No one's buying their hardware and no one is ever likely to again. All the famous Xbox exclusive franchises are not only about to be not exclusive but they're just one more disaster away from being dead franchises. Xbox basically doesn't exist anymore, the way it used to be. All it is, is the combination of Activision Blizzard and Bethesda. Everything else is an insignificant extra, that will probably end up being shut down in short order. It's a classic example of being careful what you wish for but disturbing because, like all rich bullies, Microsoft is now pretending that, actually, they meant to do that and rather than feel bad about turning the industry on its head they're just going to carry on and make things worse. And I'm afraid that Sony is now doing the same thing. Given Microsoft is many times their size, Sony should never have had a chance against them, if they were run by competent people. Call me naïve, but if I were Sony and I saw my long-time rival on the ropes I'd give them the old one-two and finish them off for good. As we've seen though they've done the opposite. It almost seems like they're trying to copy Microsoft, except without the infinite funds and not owning two of the biggest publishers in the world. Suddenly, Sony doesn't care for exclusives and they're embracing multiformat releases, even though that makes absolutely no sense for their business. Sure, they will make more money in the short term, but in the long term… there will be no long term if they destroy the whole concept of a video game console. If you want to play Xbox games now you've got two choices: buy a dying console that Xbox aren't even bothering to sell in some countries now or play them on PC or streaming. Microsoft make money out of this, of course, but they have no control over those formats and so they become just like any other publisher, like EA or Ubisoft. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. There are two basic reasons to buy a console: the lack of fuss and bother (and generally lower price) compared to a PC and the exclusive games. I have long said that Sony releasing their exclusives on PC is a mistake because while you get some short term cash from it you're eating away at the reason anyone would buy a console in the first place. But now we hear that the August release of Helldivers 2 on Xbox Series X/S is not going to be a one-off, that Sony wants to release more games on Xbox and Nintendo Switch. Anything to make the smallest amount of extra money now, even if it means destroying their future forever. Is Sony short of cash or something? Are their financials so bad they have to do the corporate equivalent of going to the pawn shop to make it to the end of the week? Not as far as I know, but that's what they're doing anyway. There seems no point me even complaining at this point, as not only are they obviously not going to listen to me or any other fan but it seems to late. Sony had two choices when Microsoft messed up: go all out to show how good the PlayStation 5 and its line-up of exclusives is or… just sort of roll up and die for no reason. And yes, I know the PlayStation 5 is still selling well but that's because it's the only game in town at the moment, now the Xbox Series X/S has gone to an early grave. But every year the PC becomes more and more popular and that's only going to accelerate as one of the main reasons to buy a console is removed. It's not the end of gaming or anything – third party games will be unaffected – but the sort of exclusive games that Sony used to make are going to become rarer and rarer. They already are but when they don't need them to show off their console, and act like a killer app, they'll just keep reducing the budgets and the number of them they make until they don't bother at all. More Trending In the end, Sony will become a third party publisher too and even more choice and variety will be removed from the games industry.
