Telehealth firm Ro enlists Serena Williams as ambassador for weight-loss drugs

Telehealth company Ro has enlisted former tennis player Serena Williams as a celebrity patient ambassador for its weight-loss treatments, it said on Thursday. She will star in a national marketing campaign for GLP-1s medication and inspire others to take the support they need to reach their health goals, a company spokesperson said. Williams, who has won 23 grand slam titles, is speaking out for the first time about using GLP-1 weight-loss treatment to improve her health and help reach her weight goals after having children, Ro said. Her grand slams make Williams the most successful female tennis player in the modern era. She won the Australian Open in 2017 while she was pregnant. The company, which sells Eli Lilly's Zepbound and Novo Nordisk's Wegovy through its weight-loss program, said Williams' husband and co-founder of social media site Reddit, Alexis Ohanian, is an investor in Ro and serves on its board.

India's Wipro to buy Harman's digital transformation solutions unit for $375 million

Indian tech firm Wipro said on Thursday it would buy the digital transformation solutions unit of U.S.-based audio products maker Harman for $375 million, aiming to bolster its AI-led engineering services across sectors. The DTS unit, Harman Connected Services, will be integrated into Wipro's engineering global business line once the deal is completed — expected by the end of the year. More than 5,600 DTS employees across the Americas, Europe and Asia will transition to Wipro after the deal closes. "The acquisition of DTS marks a pivotal step in Wipro's ambition to bring to our clients end-to-end, AI-powered engineering services," Wipro Managing Partner and Global Head of Engineering Srikumar Rao said. Harman, owned by Samsung, is best known for its audio brands JBL, Harman Kardon and Infinity. It runs research and development centres in India through Harman Connected Services. The sale will allow Harman to sharpen focus on its core automotive electronics and audio business, it said in a separate statement.

Self-driving vehicle startup Nuro valued at $6 billion in late-stage funding round

Self-driving vehicle startup Nuro closed its late-stage funding round on Thursday, raising $203 million at a $6 billion valuation from new investors Uber and Nvidia alongside returning backers. The latest tranche of $97 million follows the $106 million announced in April, which included investors such as T. Rowe Price, Fidelity, and Tiger Global. The company's valuation in the latest funding round is lower than the $8.6 billion it was valued at in 2021, according to Pitchbook data. Many startups that became unicorns during the 2021 funding boom are now raising capital at lower valuations as investors' attention turns toward artificial intelligence. "The change reflects broader market conditions and this is a strong outcome for the current market environment," a Nuro spokesperson said. Nuro has been pushing to scale its self-driving platform and expand commercial partnerships. Founded in 2016, Nuro has pivoted from delivery robots to licensing its Nuro Driver technology for use in robotaxis, commercial fleets, and personal vehicles. Nuro partnered with EV maker Lucid and Uber to launch a global robotaxi service. Uber plans to deploy over 20,000 Lucid Gravity SUVs equipped with Nuro's system across dozens of markets over six years starting in 2026.
