Jordan Amissah confident Ross County can finish the job in Premiership play-off

Leader Live26-05-2025
Ronan Hale scored a stoppage-time penalty for County to cancel out Danny Wilson's earlier opener for the Championship side at the end of the first half on the artificial surface in West Lothian.
The Staggies' 23-year-old German goalkeeper believes that leveller was pivotal to their chances of tasting success in the second leg in Dingwall on Monday night.
Amissah said: 'It was never going to be an easy game, but we stayed in the game, it's a tie over two legs and we've done our job.
'Ronan scores a brilliant penalty, it's never easy, those games, but we've done our job, now it's all about going back to Dingwall, on our ground and performing.
'So, very confident, we've shown in the past that we're a good team, and it's about doing that again.
'We've been a Premiership club for a reason, that's what it's about on Monday, to turn up and get the job done.
'I think over the last few games we've played very good first halves, now it's just about performing for 90 minutes and making sure we're getting the job done, the boys leaving it all out there.
'It's just about finding the moments of quality up the pitch and getting goals, and I'm sure the defence and me will do everything we can to keep the team in the tie.'
It is the third successive season that Ross County have had to use the play-offs for survival, after beating Raith Rovers and Partick Thistle in previous years.
Amissah, who signed from Sheffield United in December, initially on a short-term deal but who is now contracted until 2027, said: 'The boys have been talking about it, obviously. George Harmon can't stop talking about his last-minute goal against Partick.
'And obviously since I've joined, I've had a look at those play-off games, as the boys told me they've been in them the last two years.
'The fans have looked unbelievable in those games and really backed the boys, and that's what we need of them again on Monday. Be behind us, get behind us, and we will leave it all out there.
'Of course, I want to be in the Premiership, I've signed, and I want to help the team to stay there.
'I think when I signed that contract we had been on a very good run. Obviously over the last few league games we've not been getting the results, which made us be in that position we are in now.
'But I will leave it all out there and try and help the team to stay in the league.'

Stephen Robinson has changed expectations at St Mirren, says Shamal George

The Buddies keeper has been impressed with the past achievments of the Northern Irishman and says he now understands why players succeed under him. St Mirren goalkeeper Shamal George says the expectation at the club has that is thanks to Stephen Robinson. ‌ The Saints No 1 was on hand to help his side past Derek McInnes' Hearts in a dramatic penalty shoot-out at the SMiSA Stadium on Saturday when he stopped Claudio Braga's spot kick. ‌ It was a save that allowed new boy Malik Dijksteel to later step up and slot away his effort, sending the Black and White Army into a frenzy. ‌ Robinson's men will now travel to face Stuart Kettlewell's Kilmarnock in the quarter-finals of the Premier Sports Cup. The club is now potentially 90 minutes away from marching on towards Hampden, and George has pointed out the club has been on an upward trajectory since the Northern Irish boss walked through the doors. 'He's a great manager, a great guy. I know he's signed a new contract so I'm really happy for him,' he said. 'Clearly, he's doing something right when St Mirren are getting to the top six for three years in a row. 'Previously, St Mirren were just about expected to stay up. But we know, inside here, that we can do more than that and we're going to try and do that again this season. 'It's rare in football these days for managers to stay with a club for this long, so this is great. He deserves it and is doing a great job.' The 27-year-old further compared Robbo to his old gaffer at Livingston, David Martindale, who was also awarded a new contract in the same week as Robinson. ‌ George, who spent two seasons in West Lothian between 2022 and 2024, has pointed out how both managers have the X-Factor, allowing them to succeed at their respective clubs. He said: 'The only one I know [succeeding for as long] would be David Martindale. They've got their way of playing. I know in the Championship, Livingston were playing a bit more football and it worked for them. 'He's got his own style and our gaffer has his own style of play and it's effective. It works. They're both doing plenty of things right to get the results. They are both demanding, they work you hard but you have to be. 'Success doesn't come easy so you've got to put demands on each other. Obviously, it's been working for both of them, and all the best to them both.'

Ryan Reynolds and Tom Brady in fight for budding Liverpool ace as Wrexham eye 11th signing

Ryan Reynolds and Tom Brady in fight for budding Liverpool ace as Wrexham eye 11th signing Wrexham and Birmingham are battling it out with several other teams for Liverpool forward Lewis Koumas, who is set to leave the Premier League club before transfer deadline day Ryan Reynolds' Wrexham are facing a tough battle with Birmingham for Liverpool's Lewis Koumas (Image: PA Wire/PA Images) Wrexham and Birmingham City are gearing up for a transfer battle over Liverpool youngster Lewis Koumas. ‌ The two Championship rivals are at the forefront of a lengthy list of potential suitors for the Welsh international. The 19-year-old forward has become hot property following a successful stint in the second tier last season while on loan at Stoke City. ‌ Sheffield United have maintained a keen interest in the player throughout the year, with Norwich City, Preston North End and Hull City also monitoring the situation closely. However, it's Wrexham, owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney and Birmingham, where NFL icon Tom Brady holds a minority stake, that are leading the pursuit for Koumas. ‌ Both clubs are believed to be prepared to offer a permanent deal to him after he scored on his senior Liverpool debut in an FA Cup victory over Southampton in February last year. Koumas, who was on the bench for the Reds' League Cup final triumph over Chelsea in 2023/24, has made 50 senior appearances and has also earned six full Wales caps. The reigning Premier League champions view the forward as being further along in his development than a player like Bobby Clark was when he left Anfield for RB Salzburg in a £10million deal last year. With 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha having risen from the club's academy in the past nine months, first-team opportunities for Koumas were limited during pre-season to a second-half appearance at Preston and a brief cameo in the opening friendly against Athletic Bilbao. If he does make the move to Wrexham, he would likely become the club's eleventh summer signing. The Red Dragons have so far brought in nine new faces after securing promotion from League One in April, including Wales trio Danny Ward, Kieffer Moore and Nathan Broadhead. Man City youngster Callum Doyle is expected to become the tenth after a deal worth up to £8m was agreed between the two clubs. ‌ With Wrexham losing their opening two Championship games against Southampton and West Brom, manager Phil Parkinson is keen to add more recruits following a busy summer. Speaking after their latest defeat to the Baggies last weekend, the former Bolton and Sunderland boss said a few areas of his squad still needed strengthening. "The lads we've brought in at the moment are really good and I'm pleased with the way they've settled in," he said. "We probably do need a couple more players and we're looking at that. ‌ "It's ongoing, it's obviously busy for all managers and clubs at the moment when you're preparing for games and looking to improve the squad." Parkinson was dealt a blow earlier this week following the news that summer signing Josh Windass will be out of action for up to six weeks. The attacking midfielder has impressed during Wrexham's opening games, scoring from the penalty spot in the defeat to Southampton, but came off with a hamstring injury against West Brom last Saturday. "Josh is going to be out for four to six weeks with his hamstring," said Parkinson. Obviously it's a blow because he's been great for us. Even in the first half hour against West Brom he was really good and obviously down at Southampton. Article continues below "It is really frustrating for him and for us but it's part and parcel of football and we've got to deal with it. With the international break coming up, by the time that's finished he won't be far off."
