Security beefed up at Shree Jagannath Temple amid rising India-Pak tensions

Hans India09-05-2025

Security has been intensified in and around the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri amid the escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan.
Heavy deployment of security personnel has been made to ensure the safety of devotees and the temple premises.
The heightened security comes in the wake of the recent security audit conducted by the National Security Guard (NSG) team. Several precautionary measures have been put in place to strengthen surveillance and response systems around the temple.
Officials confirmed that round-the-clock monitoring, increased patrolling, and deployment of special forces have been implemented to prevent any untoward incident.
Entry protocols have also been tightened as part of the new security arrangements.
Meanwhile, the security arrangements at the Hirakud Dam, the longest earthen dam in the world, located in Sambalpur district, have also been intensified.
The district administration has reportedly restricted tourists' entry to the dam premises until further notice.
Security arrangements have also been heightened at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar and the Paradip Port in Jagatsinghpur.
On the other hand, a high-level meeting is likely to be held in Balasore district on Friday afternoon to discuss steps to tighten security arrangements at sensitive defence installations of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) at Chandipur in Balasore.
DIG of Police (Eastern Range) Satyajit Naik had earlier convened an emergency meeting to hold discussions on enhancing security measures at defence installations at Chandipur.
"In view of the prevailing war-like situation in the country, it is proposed to hold an emergency meeting on 09.05.2025 at 02:00 p.m. to review the security arrangements of the critical defence installations, including the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, and Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE), Chandipur," wrote Naik.
The Indian Army, in a statement, said that Pakistan launched multiple attacks using drones and other munitions along the entire Western Border on the intervening night of May 8 and 9 and resorted to numerous ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, which were effectively repulsed.

Citing the recent Pahalgam attack and the retaliatory Operation Sindoor , he emphasised the need to enhance domestic capabilities and global cooperation From drawing lessons from international experiences to discussing evolving threats, response mechanisms and counter strategies, Mohan highlighted the increasing use of social media, drones, and encrypted apps by terrorists and their handlers to evade law stressed the importance of leveraging technology in counterterror operations and conducting tech-enabled counter-IED (improvised explosive device) operations."Terrorism is a global threat-one that endangers not just India but the entire world. It has jeopardised national security across continents and inflicted deep wounds on the fundamental values of humanity. According to the Institute for Economics and Peace's 2024 Report, the number of countries impacted by terrorism has risen from 58 to 66 in 2024. The entire world is grappling with the devastation caused by terrorism," Mohan April 22 this year, 26 Indians lost their lives in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir."Whoever attempts such acts must pay the price. That is precisely why, through Operation Sindoor, we neutralised cross-border terrorism at its source. With precise military strikes on terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, we successfully destroyed key operational bases of terrorist organisations. This stands as a testament to the military skill and professional strength of our armed forces," Mohan at the valedictory session, he added: "Unfortunately, some countries and communities are associating terrorism with their identity or faith-and in doing so, are tarnishing the very idea of humanity. This problem needs to be eradicated from its roots. Whether or not a country is directly impacted by terrorism, it is essential for all nations-including India-to come together on a united platform. Government strengthening IT cells to counter terrorist propaganda on social media: Union Home Secretary

The government is strengthening Information Technology (IT) cells and cybersurveillance to counter terrorist propaganda being spread on social media, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan said on Wednesday. He said terrorists were using social media and advanced drone technology 'not just for surveillance and espionage, but also to carry out pinpointed and focused attacks.' He said, 'Some countries and some communities associate actions in the name of terrorism with either identity or with faith,' and in doing so, they tarnish the very idea of humanity and the 'problem needs to be eradicated from its roots.' The official said the government had finalised a 25-point integrated plan to curb the financial sources of terrorism, which included 'jihadi terrorism, insurgency in the northeast, fake currency and narcotics' and police and other investigating agencies were encouraged to 'not hesitate to use strict provisions under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA)' in all cases where it was necessary. He said 40 groups had been proscribed as terror organisations by India. While delivering the valedictory address at the 23rd National Security Guard's (NSG) Counter-Terror International Seminar, which was attended by 50 foreign delegates, Mr. Mohan said 'spontaneous war on the cyber front' is an important part of the government's strategy to counter terrorism where social media is used 'to radicalise youth whose minds are still shaping' and to spread disinformation and misinformation. Also Read | Operation Sindoor: Pakistan has unleashed a disinformation offensive, says govt 'Terrorist groups are leveraging social media and online propaganda, not only to mobilise their sympathisers, but also to mislead and influence youth who are radicalised or who do not have the full perspective of this entire game that is being played on them. Increasingly, encrypted devices are being used, different kinds of Apps are being used to conceal their identities. Even in the radar of our security agencies, this makes it much harder for us to track their conversations or intercept their plans, and it also makes the task of pre-empting their actions significantly challenging.' He called for global cooperation, sharing technological solutions and public awareness to end the menace of terrorism. He said Naxalism was now confined to 20 districts against 200 districts few years ago. 'We have to go beyond conventional methods and prepare comprehensive and forward-looking strategies as the only objective of terrorism is to spread violence and fear,' the Home Secretary said. He added that Pahalgam terrorist attack was one of the most horrific incidents that India had faced and any assault on its peace or sovereignty would not be tolerated. 'Whoever attempts such an act has to pay the price. And this is precisely what Operation Sindoor was ....precise military strikes on terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. We successfully destroyed the main operational bases of terrorist organisations. This stands as a testament to our military skill, to our professional strength, not only of armed forces, but also of our border guarding forces,' Mr. Mohan said.

Indian and Swiss business chambers sign strategic partnership agreement to boost trade relations

Bern [Switzerland], June 11 ( ANI): The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) and Swissmem -- Switzerland's leading mechanical and electrical engineering industries association -- have formalised a three-year partnership agreement aimed at strengthening business cooperation between the two nations. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Tuesday at the Swissmem Industry Day in Bern. It establishes a comprehensive framework for enhanced trade relations, technology transfer, and investment opportunities between Indian and Swiss companies. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal just completed his two-day visit to Switzerland. His next trip is to Sweden. The Indo-Swiss partnership encompasses several key areas of collaboration designed to benefit member companies from both organisations. The agreement enables both chambers to exchange crucial market intelligence, including information on trade opportunities, investment prospects, economic policies, and foreign trade legislation affecting both countries. The partnership will facilitate technology transfer initiatives and joint ventures between Indian and Swiss companies, particularly in the mechanical and electrical engineering sectors where Swissmem members excel. Both the industry bodies commit to supporting trade missions, study groups, and mutual participation in industrial exhibitions and trade fairs, helping member companies establish direct business connections. The MoU provides for joint workshops, technical seminars, and conferences that will showcase new products and emerging technologies to business communities in both countries. ASSOCHAM, headquartered in New Delhi, represents one of India's most influential business advocacy organizations, while Swissmem serves as the voice of Switzerland's precision engineering and technology sectors. The partnership comes at a time when both countries are seeking to diversify their trade relationships and strengthen economic ties. 'This agreement creates a structured platform for our member companies to explore new markets and forge meaningful business partnerships,' said a representative familiar with the negotiations. The framework is expected to be particularly beneficial for small and medium enterprises looking to expand internationally. The partnership includes robust provisions for intellectual property protection, with any jointly developed IP to be co-owned by both parties. Confidentiality protocols ensure sensitive business information shared through the collaboration remains protected for up to three years post-agreement. The MoU establishes clear guidelines for joint branding and promotional activities, requiring written approval for the use of organizational logos in collaborative initiatives. All specific projects under the agreement will be governed by separate detailed contracts addressing financial arrangements and implementation procedures. The agreement is valid through June 2028 and can be renewed by mutual consent. Either party may terminate the partnership with three months' written notice, though termination would not affect ongoing projects initiated under the framework. Both organisations have committed to resolving disputes through mutual consultation, emphasising the partnership's collaborative spirit. The non-binding nature of the agreement provides flexibility while establishing clear expectations for cooperation. (ANI)
