Goa's solar industry set for ₹325 crore turnover by 2027: SPAG
Panaji: Goa's solar industry is set for significant expansion, with business turnover projected to reach ₹325 crore and job creation expected to rise sharply by 2027, according to the Solar Power Association of Goa (SPAG). Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, SPAG President Sandeep Naik said that Prime Minister's PM Surya Ghar Scheme and Goa State Solar Policy are the "best solar policies till date". He said Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has prioritised green energy and is encouraging people to come forward and take advantage of the PM-led scheme. "So far, the state has witnessed a solar capacity installation of 12 MW with another 2 MW under progress," he said, adding that the industry estimates that the total installed capacity will grow to 65 MW by 2027. "The cumulative investment from consumers is expected to rise from ₹18 crore at present to ₹162 crore, while business turnover is projected to surge from ₹37 crore to ₹325 crore," he said. Naik said that the number of entrepreneurs engaged in the solar sector is set to triple from 45 to 135 by 2027. SPAG has projected that direct employment in the sector will rise to 2,250 and indirect job creation to 6,750 by 2027, up from the current estimates of 750 direct and 1,875 indirect jobs in Goa. He added that the central government has so far disbursed ₹13.5 crore in subsidies through the state government and ₹5.37 crore directly as central support. "Correspondingly, GST collection from the sector has already reached ₹4.48 crore (from the time of introduction of the PM scheme) and is expected to climb to ₹39 crore by 2027," Naik said.

4 attack youth over Marathi
Thane: A case has been registered against a man and three others for assaulting a 20-year-old student with a hockey stick outside a college at Vashi on Tuesday after the latter asked him to speak Marathi, officials said. The altercation began when one of the accused, Faizan Naik, objected to being spoken to in Marathi. Naik and three others attacked the complainant, police said. The prime accused struck the student on the head with a hockey stick, causing severe injury. The others kicked and punching him, leaving him bleeding, the police said. PTI

Four booked for attacking student after altercation over speaking Marathi
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Thane, Jul 23 (PTI) Police have registered a case against a man and three others for allegedly assaulting a 20-year-old student in Navi Mumbai's Vashi area with a hockey stick after the latter asked him to speak in Marathi, officials said. The incident occurred around 10.30 am on Tuesday outside a college in Vashi. The victim, a resident of Pawane village in Airoli, filed a complaint in this connection. 'The altercation began when one of the accused, identified as Faizan Naik, objected to being spoken to in Marathi. A verbal exchange escalated, following which Naik and three others attacked the complainant," an official of Vashi police station said. 'The prime accused struck the victim on the head with a hockey stick, causing severe injuries. The others joined in by kicking and punching him repeatedly. They also threatened him with dire consequences. The victim was left bleeding at the scene," he said. The case was registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 118 (1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 351(2) and 351(3) (criminal intimidation), section 3(5) (common intention) and others. 'We are taking the matter seriously and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice. The victim has been medically examined and his statement recorded.
