Former NCT member Moon Taeil admits to assault charges, faces seven years in prison
On June 18, 2025, former NCT member Moon Taeil admitted to rape charges during a hearing at the Seoul Central District Court, alongside co-defendants identified by their surnames Lee and Hong. The three men were indicted in February for sexually assaulting a heavily intoxicated Chinese tourist in Seoul on June 13, 2024.
Prosecutors are now seeking a seven-year prison sentence for each defendant. The court will announce its final ruling on July 10, 2025.
Addressing the court, Taeil expressed remorse, stating, 'I most deeply regret and feel sorry for the harm I caused the victim. I also apologize to everyone who was disappointed in me. If given leniency, I will consider it my last chance in life and do my best to contribute to society.'
Public knowledge of the case first emerged in August 2024 when SM Entertainment, NCT's management company, confirmed Taeil's departure from the group following his involvement in a sexual assault case. His contract was officially terminated in October as the investigation progressed.
Taeil debuted with NCT in 2016, serving as one of the group's lead vocalists and its eldest member. His sudden exit and subsequent criminal charges shocked fans and stirred broader discussion within South Korea's entertainment industry.
This case has renewed public scrutiny of celebrity behavior and accountability. Advocacy groups continue to push for justice for victims of sexual violence, particularly when public figures are involved.

Michelle Obama jokes she's glad she didn't have a son: 'He'd be a Barack'
US President Barack Obama gestures to himself as he and First Lady Michelle Obama await the arrival of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Madame Peng Liyuan, for a State Dinner at the White House, in Washington, September 25, 2015. PHOTO: REUTERS Former First Lady Michelle Obama sparked headlines during a candid conversation on the latest episode of her podcast 'IMO,' joking that she's 'glad' she didn't have a son — because he would have turned out just like her husband, Barack Obama. Speaking with her brother Craig Robinson and guest Angie Martinez, Obama said, 'I'm so glad I didn't have a boy. Because he would have been a Barack Obama. Ooh,' while shaking her head and smiling. Martinez laughed off the comment, calling the idea of a 'Baby Barack' amazing, but Michelle added, 'No, I woulda felt for him.' The conversation centered around parenting boys, with both Martinez and Robinson being parents to sons. Michelle, mother of Sasha and Malia, discussed the complexities of raising boys today, especially when it comes to teaching them how to communicate in relationships and navigate situations like traffic stops. Her comments come amid ongoing speculation about her 32-year marriage to the former president, with recent public appearances fueling rumors of strain. However, Michelle praised Barack's parenting in a recent episode with Bruce Springsteen, calling him a 'tremendous father.' The couple has been seen together in recent months on high-profile date nights in New York City and Washington, D.C., despite persistent divorce rumors. Michelle also revealed she's currently in therapy and is 'transitioning' into a new phase of her life. The 'Becoming' author's remarks blend humor with introspection, offering insight into her evolving identity as a mother, wife, and public figure.

Chinese student jailed for 24 years over rapes in UK and China
PhD student, Zhenhao Zou was jailed to life as he also filmed himself raping and sexually assaulting women. PHOTO:BBC Listen to article A Chinese student convicted of drugging and raping 10 women in Britain and China was jailed on Thursday for 24 years in a London court. Zhenhao Zou, 28, who lived in south London, used online platforms and dating apps to meet women, inviting them to his home under the pretext of having drinks or studying before he drugged them. He then filmed himself raping and sexually assaulting the women while they were unconscious, keeping some of their jewellery and clothing afterwards. Zou was found guilty in March of 28 offences, including 11 counts of rape, after a trial at Inner London Crown Court. At Thursday's sentencing, he was jailed for life, with a minimum term of 24 years, minus time he had already spent in custody. Judge Rosina Cottage said Zou was "a highly manipulative and intelligent young man who gave no thought at all of the wishes and feelings of the women" he attacked. Detective Inspector Richard MacKenzie from London's Metropolitan Police said outside court: "The sheer scale of his offending, which spanned two countries, makes him one of the most prolific predators we have ever seen." The police previously said detectives believe there may be more than 50 other women who may have been victims of Zou and have not yet been identified. Originally from Dongguan in Guangdong Province, the student is thought to have moved to the United Kingdom in 2017 and began studying for a PhD at University College London in 2019. After a woman came forward to report Zou, police said they found drugs and hidden cameras in his home, while hundreds of videos and millions of messages on his laptops and phones showed that he had committed offences not just in Britain but in his homeland.
