WHEN Rene Byrd first held her baby boy, Crue, in her arms, she felt like life was finally complete.
The Londoner had spent years battling infertility before deciding to undergo IVF – a journey that cost her over £20,000.

But Rene's struggle didn't stop other parents from judging her for becoming a mum later in life.
The singer-songwriter was met with cruel 'jokes' after telling people she'd given birth at 48.
She's also lost friends since having a baby.
Although the comments stung, Rene says she is determined to ignore the negativity and finally embrace motherhood.

'I had people making [say things like], 'You'll be old when your child grows up',' she said
'People have told me it's selfish.
'They say it jokingly, but you know they're not joking.
'It can make you feel guilty, but I just want to be the best mum I can be.

Reality TV star reveals she's pregnant with second baby just months after admitting marriage was 'lowest it's ever been'
'I have a friend I don't even see anymore.
'Some relationships dissolved.'
Rene had always dreamed of becoming a mum, but life didn't exactly go to plan.
Rene met her now-husband, 42-year-old American attorney Demetrious, by chance in a London bar.
Aware of her biological clock, the pair started trying for a baby in 2017 when Rene was 40.
She even spent about £2,000 on Chinese herbal remedies and fertility tonics to help her get pregnant.
But after a year of trying, Rene realised that starting a family wouldn't be as easy as she'd hoped.
She said: 'We tried to conceive naturally, but my age was always a factor.
'The panic starts to set in – you realise time is slipping away.
'I spent a couple of grand on different tonics overseas – anything that looked like it could help.
'It was getting me down.
'I knew my window was closing.
'Eventually, I accepted that it probably wasn't going to happen without some assistance.'
Rene and Demetrious eventually decided to explore IVF in a bid to start their dream family.
The couple spent a few years researching treatments and clinics before taking the leap.
Following a rough IVF journey – Rene described the procedure as 'invasive' – she found out she was pregnant in April 2024, just a few months after the couple got married.
She said: 'I didn't realise just how emotional it would be.
'There's so much uncertainty.
'So many tests – you're constantly putting your body through it.
'I had an underlying condition that was a big factor.
'They check all your hormones, and, as women, there are so many to track.
'You have to do regular blood tests, and they expire after a certain time, so you're constantly redoing them.
'Emotionally, it was draining, and I wasn't sure if it would even work.
'Financially, it was a huge strain – in total, it cost over £20,000.'
Rene can recall the moment she learned she was pregnant.
She said: They told me I needed to do a beta test – it looks at hormone levels in your blood to confirm pregnancy.
'I went in that morning, and the lady from the clinic started crying.
The struggle of choosing a baby name
CHLOE Morgan, a Senior Writer at Fabulous, has revealed her dilemma on choosing a baby name...
At 35 weeks pregnant, by far the trickiest part of pregnancy for me in the past few months (minus the insomnia and countless night-time wee breaks!) has been trying to decide on a baby name.
The dilemmas are endless...
My partner and I went for a private scan to find out the gender as early as we could - partly due to the fact we thought it would make baby naming so much easier because we'd only have to come up with a list of names for one gender rather than two.
How wrong we were...
I was absolutely thrilled to be told I was expecting the baby girl I'd already dreamed of, but being one of the last of my friends to fall pregnant, I've had countless conversations over the years with excited pals discussing their top
With each friend mentioning at least 10 possible monikers, I can't help but feel like several are now a no-go even though I know it's something that none of them would mind in the slightest - it's a total me problem!
The debate comes up time and time again on social media forums - can you choose the same name that was a "potential" for a friend's baby?
It's a very divisive topic and opinions are always mixed...and I don't want to be THAT person.
While some will argue there's thousands of other names out there to choose from, others will say you need to choose YOUR favourite...after all, there's no guarantee that person will even have another baby.
Then there's also the issue of finding a name you adore...only to research it online and read one negative comment amongst hundreds of positives that you just can't shake off.
I made that very mistake when I fell in love with a certain name (I won't reveal it because I don't want to ruin it for others!) ...only to see someone point out that it constantly gets autocorrected on a phone to something rather rude instead.
So, back to the drawing board we went..
Just five weeks to go and it looks like our little one is going to be known as 'baby gal' for a little while longer!
'I thought it was bad news – but they were happy tears.
'She told me, 'You're pregnant.'
'I cried my eyes out.
'That was just the beginning of the journey.
'I've always wanted children – the real challenge was finding the right person to have them with.
'All around me, my friends were having babies.
'I was always at baby showers and christenings. I've been a godmother to so many kids.
'I had a vision board with a little boy on it.
'In my heart, I always longed to hold a baby that was mine.'
Following a pregnancy marked by intense nausea and fluctuating hormones, Crue was born via C-section on 28 November last year.
Rene said: 'They placed him on my chest for skin-to-skin contact.
'That's when it hit me – this is real, he's here.'
Despite the criticism that's come since Rene says she wouldn't change a thing.
She said, 'There are so many positives to having a child later in life.
'I'm more financially stable, more patient, and I've lived a full life.
'I feel more in control, more confident.
'I've spent years around friends' kids, reading, learning.
'I'm in a completely different headspace.
'You do get that twinge of guilt when you think about being older, but it's nobody's business.
'You have to live your own life in your own time.'

‘People see themselves in me': Frances Tiafoe on being a tennis trailbazer in a mainly white sport

Frances Tiafoe is in his element when he talks passionately about the growing presence of black and mixed heritage players at the highest levels of men's tennis. During a stroll on tournament grounds he reels off the names of players he competes with regularly on the tour. 'Now they're at a position where I have wars with them and go back and forth. So this is great, man. It's great to see,' he says. 'And then you have Giovanni [Mpetshi Perricard], you have Gaël [Monfils], who I looked up to.' Seconds after Tiafoe mentions his name, Monfils suddenly appears from around a corner as if magically summoned by the American's utterance. His arrival naturally leads to a pause in this interview as an excited Tiafoe greets Monfils by heaping praise on his new haircut, particularly focusing his attention on the Frenchman's sleek fade. Monfils responds with a compliment of his own: 'You're looking like a wedding day,' he says, laughing. This encounter perfectly encapsulates the dynamic between two different generations of black players in a sport where their success immediately marks them as trailblazers. Although they step on to the court with the sole intention of beating each other, there is also a deep understanding between them and they are extremely supportive. 'He texts me all the time,' says Tiafoe. 'He tells me, like: 'Yo, you can do this.' Don't get it twisted, when he plays he still wants to beat my ass and so do I, but it's just a lot of love.' Tiafoe, at No 14 in the rankings is the third-highest ranked US man behind Taylor Fritz, the world No 4, and Ben Shelton, who won the Toronto Masters 1000 on Thursday night, but in terms of name recognition the 27-year-old has become the most prominent US male tennis player in years. His matches attract NBA stars like Kevin Durant, he breaks bread with Taylor Swift and has earned a fan in Michelle Obama. In recent weeks Tiafoe has been name-dropped in songs from the rap duo Clipse and the rapper Wale. 'I still think he's the player on tour with the most clout, like every celebrity knows him, or he knows every celebrity. He's mentioned in two rap songs, so he's pretty iconic,' says Coco Gauff, laughing. Tiafoe, for his part, believes his burgeoning profile underlines the importance of tennis reaching beyond its traditional audience: 'Just to be able to be in a position where I get crossover, people want to be a part of things I'm doing in a predominantly white sport. They see themselves in me, in the sport, and they want to get behind me. Hopefully I'm able to get that done,' he says. There is also simply nobody like Tiafoe. His extroverted character and bluntness can be abrasive to some spectators, but he is kind, warm and has time for everyone. Laughter is never far from his lips, which makes his energy infectious. He has also deliberately made a point of using his platform to promote female athletes. When he is not playing, he is often at WNBA games and he wears player jerseys throughout the tennis season during practice. He is friends with many female basketball players. 'I think [female athletes] just need to get their flowers,' says Tiafoe. 'They put in the work, just like we do. They just need to be getting their love, their notoriety, their compensation. Let them smell their flowers. That's kind of what it is. And I think more women should support women, to be honest with you, because it's a beautiful thing. It's not just me showing up and supporting it. It's me showing up and watching a good product.' In addition to his support for women's sport, Tiafoe has also actively tried to help certain female tennis players follow in his path. His success has paved the way for others at the Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTCC), his childhood tennis club near Washington DC, particularly the WTA players Hailey Baptiste and Robin Montgomery. This year, while also working with Franklin Tiafoe, Frances's twin brother, Baptiste has enjoyed a breakout season, reaching the top 50. Both players cite Tiafoe as a mentor they have constantly sought advice from and he has tried to be on hand to help them in any way he can. He takes great pride in their success. 'I'm still young – I've still got a lot more to achieve. I still haven't scratched the surface of my career. But with them, I've already won in so many ways,' says Tiafoe. 'So it's kind of how you look at the glass, but it's amazing to be in that seat. It's a blessing.' During tournaments, Tiafoe can sometimes be found training with other female players, which is still an unusual sight. He describes Jessica Pegula as his favourite training partner on the WTA: 'She hits the ball so pure and right in pocket every time,' he says. 'She's pretty relaxed as well. But she doesn't want to hit with me any more. She's made some finals now in some slams, 1000s, and she doesn't want to talk to me as much any more. She got too big time for me. She forgot about the little people.' Such is his jovial nature, Tiafoe is often the butt of jokes among his friends on the tour. They tease him for his questionable organisational skills, his lack of punctuality and his general unseriousness. His driving has also come under fire. Offered a platform to defend himself against his friends' scorn, Tiafoe smiles. 'I just recently got my license, so I was definitely shaky in the early days, probably when they were saying it,' says Tiafoe. 'But I'm definitely nice [at driving]. I'm definitely [Lewis] Hamilton 2.0 behind the wheel so I don't worry too much about it.' The story of Tiafoe's past has already been told countless times, but it can never be repeated enough. The son of Sierra Leonean parents who immigrated to the United States, Tiafoe spent much of his formative years at the JTCC, where his father worked as a janitor. He has defied almost impossible odds to establish himself as one of the best tennis players in the world. After reaching his second grand slam semi-final at the US Open last year, when he lost to Fritz in five sets in heartbreaking fashion, this year Tiafoe will attempt to rediscover the magic on courts that have regularly inspired his best. Regardless of what awaits him as he enters the prime years of his career, however, it is obvious that in many ways Tiafoe has already won. 'I'd tell guys from the [club] that I'd want to be a pro,' says Tiafoe. 'They would just clown and not take it seriously. I was always like: 'Don't worry, man. I'm going to be the last person laughing.' Here we are today.' Guardian

"We finally get to Philly and he calls and he's like 'we left, we had to go, I told you. We're going to New York City why don't you come meet us there?'." Tricia then explained how she sent Zayn a text saying: "If you want to rebel against your babysitter tonight, let me know and we'll still come." "It was not funny at the time," she said, adding how Zayn had "his own stuff going on". Tricia added: "And yes he is a celebrity and all that but he is still very much a person and I didn't want to throw him under the bus like that. Rio Ferdinand lands new Man Utd role after being surprise presence alongside Ruben Amorim on pre-season tour

DEVIL YOU KNOW Rio Ferdinand lands new Man Utd role after being surprise presence alongside Ruben Amorim on pre-season tour RIO FERDINAND is set for a bigger involvement with Manchester United - after having a formal role on their US tour. Former United and England defender Ferdinand, 46, was a surprise presence as Ruben Amorim's side played in New Jersey, Chicago and Atlanta in the Premier League Summer Series. 1 Rio Ferdinand has landed a new job at Man Utd Credit: Rex Ferdinand made promotional appearances with some of United's partner companies as well as starring in front of the cameras for player interviews and matchday content as part of a short-term contract. His decision to leave TNT Sports at the end of last season has opened the way for Ferdinand to work for United on a freelance basis. The one-time England skipper has maintained good relationships with the club since hanging up his boots in 2015. And while there is no permanent or official 'staff' arrangement, United anticipate continuing to engage Ferdinand for work on what is viewed as an 'ad hoc basis' in the coming months. That will see Ferdinand asked to undertake both commercial and media work with United, as happened in the USA. Both sides felt the American experience was a real positive making it 'likely' that it will be repeated going forwards. United have also engaged Gary Neville in a similar capacity and expect to repeat that as well. Meanwhile, Ferdinand's TNT Sports replacement will be Gareth Bale. BEST FREE BETS AND BETTING SIGN UP OFFERS The deal for the 2025-26 campaign will see the former Real Madrid and Wales forward on screens for Premier League and Champions League matches. Bale will join TNT's lineup of Peter Crouch and Joe Cole in their live Premier League slot on Saturday afternoon. 'You ain't well man' - Rio Ferdinand screams at Wayne Rooney's driving as Man Utd stars reunite for US road trip Owen Hargreaves, Steve McManaman, Ally McCoist and Karen Carney will remain as the broadcaster's other leading pundits.
