Two British boys, 11 and 13, drown off Catalan coast, Spanish officials say
The Spanish General Directorate of Civil Protection said in a statement that the two boys died on Tuesday evening after getting into difficulty off Llarga beach in Salou, Tarragones, Catalonia.
Their father had entered the water with them and was rescued, it added.
Catalan police told Sky News there was a yellow flag - meaning swimming is permitted but with caution due to potential hazards - at the time the children went into the sea.
They added that it appeared the boys had difficulty getting back to the beach as they struggled with the high tide in a rocky part of the coastline.
Officers also said the father was resuscitated after receiving CPR for several minutes and that the family was staying in a hotel just in front of Llarga beach.

The General Directorate of Civil Protection added in its statement that emergency services were called to the area at 8.47pm.
Seven ground units from the Medical Emergency System (SEM) were involved in the response.
It brings the number of deaths on Catalan beaches this summer to 16, the directorate added.
The Salou Local Police, the Mossos d'Esquadra regional police force and the Generalitat Fire Department also responded to the incident.
A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: "We are supporting the family of two British children who have died in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities."

‘Severe': Blaze rips through cafe, factory
A blaze has ripped through a cafe and neighbouring factory in Sydney's west overnight. More than 20 firefighters were called to the scene on Byron Rd at Guilford at about 1.40am on Thursday. A NSW Fire and Rescue spokesman said the fire spread from the cafe to an adjoining building, causing 'severe damage'. The spokesman said one firefighter had been transported to hospital as a precaution because he had 'a bit of a fall' while battling the blaze. The owner of the cafe reportedly tried to bring the first fire under control before it spread to the neighbouring factory, as per Today. It has also been reported people were seen getting in the way of emergency services at the scene. NSWFR has said the fire is not being treated as suspicious. More to come.

Video footage shared by the local news outlets show emergency responders using a rope system to pull the woman out of the chimney. The LAFD issued another update, stating that the woman was taken to an area hospital in fair condition. 'She was not affiliated with the location or involved in official business,' the department said. The reason and circumstances that led the woman to get stuck in the chimney are currently unknown. The LAFD deferred questions about the woman's identity to the San Fernando Police Department. PEOPLE contacted the LAFD and the San Fernando Police Department for additional information about the incident on Wednesday, Aug. 6. Witnesses recalled the woman's behavior at the time of her predicament. Israel Olivas told KABC that the woman appeared to be "dancing" on the roof before the incident. "I come around again and I see her hands waving out the chimney," Olivas said. "She's just screaming, 'Help! Help! Help!'
