Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers delivered another high-scoring contest marked by one controversial call that didn't end up impacting the 5-4 outcome.

Panthers forward Sam Bennett opened the scoring early with a record-setting power-play goal, but it was another sequence involving Bennett that drew attention.
Late in the first period, with the score tied 2–2, Bennett collided with Edmonton goaltender Stuart Skinner and was penalized for goaltender interference.
Cameras appeared to show Mattias Ekholm making contact with Bennett and pushing the forward just before the collision, forcing him into Skinner's crease.
Skinner stayed down briefly before continuing in net for the Oilers without leaving the game. Bennett, however, was sent off for two minutes under a minor penalty.

On the ensuing power play, Connor McDavid set up Leon Draisaitl for a one-timer to restore Edmonton's lead at 3–2.
When asked during the intermission about being surprised by the call, Bennett offered a terse response.
"Very surprised," Bennett said before promptly exiting the interview.

Despite the penalty and quick goal against, Florida pushed back in the second period with goals by Dmitry Kulikov and Brad Marchand, the two players scoring 3:46 apart.
After Corey Perry tied the game at 4-4 with 17.8 seconds left in regulation, the game went to double overtime. At 8:05 of the second OT, Marchand skated in on a breakaway and sealed it with his 10th career Stanley Cup Final goal, evening the series at one win apiece.

Game 3 is scheduled for Monday in Sunrise, Florida, with the Panthers snatching home-ice advantage from the Oilers thanks to their Game 2 victory.

Advertisement In a recent interview with reporters, Commanders defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. talked about sophomore linebacker Jordan Magee, and he says that he thinks he could be a big part of the team's defense going forward. "We really had a package in last year for Jordan, and then he got hurt and so it sort of took that package away versus 12 personnel," Whitt said. "I'm really hopefully that he can stay healthy... Being a linebacker, I believe linebackers control the huddle and control the defense. And he's learning from Bobby [Wagner] and us how to do that." Magee missed all but eight games of the season due to some knee issues, but the team will be hoping he can bounce right back and show why they picked him in the 2024 NFL Draft.
