Panthers forward Sam Bennett opened the scoring early with a record-setting power-play goal, but it was another sequence involving Bennett that drew attention.
Late in the first period, with the score tied 2–2, Bennett collided with Edmonton goaltender Stuart Skinner and was penalized for goaltender interference.
Cameras appeared to show Mattias Ekholm making contact with Bennett and pushing the forward just before the collision, forcing him into Skinner's crease.
Skinner stayed down briefly before continuing in net for the Oilers without leaving the game. Bennett, however, was sent off for two minutes under a minor penalty.

On the ensuing power play, Connor McDavid set up Leon Draisaitl for a one-timer to restore Edmonton's lead at 3–2.
When asked during the intermission about being surprised by the call, Bennett offered a terse response.
"Very surprised," Bennett said before promptly exiting the interview.

Despite the penalty and quick goal against, Florida pushed back in the second period with goals by Dmitry Kulikov and Brad Marchand, the two players scoring 3:46 apart.
After Corey Perry tied the game at 4-4 with 17.8 seconds left in regulation, the game went to double overtime. At 8:05 of the second OT, Marchand skated in on a breakaway and sealed it with his 10th career Stanley Cup Final goal, evening the series at one win apiece.

'Confidence Meter' Full For Commanders' Jayden Daniels In 2025
'Confidence Meter' Full For Commanders' Jayden Daniels In 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Washington Commanders' quarterback Jayden Daniels is coming off one of the best rookie seasons ever, and that means expectations are high entering Year 2. Advertisement After a 12-win season and NFC Championship appearance, the next step is logical - a Super Bowl. For a quarterback in his second season, that is quite the bar to reach, but the franchise has made moves to help propel him to that bar. Deeob Samuel and Laremy Tunsil come in, and now, with the expected improvement that quarterbacks take from Year 1 to Year 2, Jayden, for some, is close to entering elite status. While we think that is a little premature, Bleacher Report's Damien Parson, in assessing the confidence meter of second-year quarterbacks on a scale of one (no confidence) to 10 (supremely confident), Jayden's is reading a 10. "The reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year had one of the best seasons by a first-year quarterback in NFL history," Parson writes. "Barring anything catastrophic, Daniels is expected to play at a high level again in 2025. One caveat: Nothing is for certain. Advertisement "C.J. Stroud experienced a sophomore slump last season, but his offense took a step back as a whole. Daniels and the Commanders need to avoid the same thing from happening in the nation's capital." Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden DanielsEric Hartline-Imagn Images We don't disagree. We know what happened to Stroud last season, but there is enough around Daniels to cushion the fall if it were to happen. Granted, replicating his efforts last year will be seriously tough, but playoffs and a deep run are now the minimum expectation for a franchise that was in the NFL wilderness just two seasons ago. How times change. And the reason for that is the confidence meter for Daniels propelling this team towards glory is high. Advertisement As it should be. Dan Quinn Sends Message To Veteran-Laden Commanders Roster
Dan Quinn Sends Message To Veteran-Laden Commanders Roster originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It took a single season for Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn to turn his team into a winner. They reached the conference finals for the first time in three decades after a 12-win regular season. Advertisement An underrated part of Washington's success last year came thanks to key veteran pickups on both sides of the ball. Veterans like linebacker Bobby Wagner, tight end Zach Ertz, center Tyler Biadasz, and many others were brought in to establish a winning culture for Washington. They certainly did that and more in 2024. Now comes the even harder part - sustaining that success. Speaking to reporters at OTAs, Quinn made it clear exactly what he expects from his veteran-laden roster. "One of the main things for the players starting off to be here, can you be an awesome teammate, top of the pile," Quinn said. "Then it gets into your role, what that can mean, how good can you get at these specific things? And then we go from there but it has to be, man, being a great teammate first. Advertisement "How do you show that to one another because not everybody's outspoken or not giving each other greeting cards every day, but there's spaces that you fill in that you're helping one another see how good you can get." Chemistry matters a great deal to a coach like Quinn. He has seen teams win games because it is there, and vice versa. It's a similar kind of messaging the coach gave this roster last season when they were first getting started together. If the Commanders want to be Super Bowl contenders, then the rest of the roster better follow Quinn's 'greeting card' commands for 2025. Washington Commanders linebacker Jordan Magee could be primed for a breakout season in his second year in the league.
Washington Commanders linebacker Jordan Magee could be primed for a breakout season in his second year in the league. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Washington Commanders took pride in their defense this past season, and that unit could get even better in 2025. Advertisement In a recent interview with reporters, Commanders defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. talked about sophomore linebacker Jordan Magee, and he says that he thinks he could be a big part of the team's defense going forward. "We really had a package in last year for Jordan, and then he got hurt and so it sort of took that package away versus 12 personnel," Whitt said. "I'm really hopefully that he can stay healthy... Being a linebacker, I believe linebackers control the huddle and control the defense. And he's learning from Bobby [Wagner] and us how to do that." Magee missed all but eight games of the season due to some knee issues, but the team will be hoping he can bounce right back and show why they picked him in the 2024 NFL Draft. The 24-year-old linebacker finished his final season at Temple University with an impressive 80 total tackles. Fourteen of those were for a loss, and he was also able to get to the quarterback a few times with 3.5 sacks. Advertisement Magee is learning from one of the best linebackers of this generation in Bobby Wagner, so there are not many players better who he could be getting mentored by. Washington was eliminated by the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship, so Magee and the rest of the team's defense will be looking to help lead the team back to the playoffs to redeem themselves.
