Google to discount cloud computing services for US government: Report
will heavily discount cloud computing services for the United States government, in a deal that could be finalised within weeks, the Financial Times reported on Friday, amid President Donald Trump's efforts to implement sweeping measures to minimize federal spending.
The Wall Street Journal reported last week that
Oracle
will offer federal agencies a 75% discount on its license-based software and a "substantial" discount on its cloud service through the end of November.
Google's cloud contract is likely "to land in a similar spot", the Financial Times said, citing a senior official at the General Services Administration, adding that equivalent discounts from Microsoft's Azure and Amazon Web Services are expected to follow soon.
"Every single of those companies is totally bought in, they understand the mission," the senior official told the newspaper. "We will get there with all four players."
Reuters could not immediately verify the report.
Google and the General Services Administration did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment outside regular business hours.
In April, Google agreed to offer a 71% discount till September 30 to U.S. federal agencies for its business apps package that could generate up to $2 billion in cost savings if there is government-wide adoption.

Trump calls India's economy ‘dead', but Trump Towers earn thousands of crores from Gurgaon, Mumbai, Pune and other cities
While US President Donald Trump has criticised India's economy as 'dead' and hinted at higher tariffs, his family-run business continues to expand its real estate footprint across Indian cities, particularly in the National Capital Region (NCR), a TOI report stated. The Trump Organisation has partnered with Indian developers for premium real estate projects, including the Trump Towers Delhi NCR in Sector 65, Gurgaon. Developed in collaboration with Tribeca and M3M, the project has recorded bookings of over ₹2,000 crore since its launch in 2018, sources said. The project features 250 luxury apartments priced between ₹5 crore and ₹9 crore. On the day of its launch, the project sold 20 apartments worth ₹150 crore. The development was marked by a high-profile event attended by Donald Trump Jr. Possession of the apartments is expected in the coming this success, the Trump Organization announced a second venture in Gurgaon this May – Trump Residences in Sector 69. The project, a joint effort by Tribeca and M3M subsidiary Smartworld, comprises two 51-storey towers with 298 for these apartments range from ₹8 crore to ₹15 crore, while premium penthouses are priced as high as ₹125 crore. The companies involved have claimed the project is completely sold out, with total revenue of ₹3,250 crore. This development will make Gurgaon the only city apart from New York to host two Trump-branded residential towers. Autodesk launches regional data offerings in India, enabling local data storage
San-Francisco headquartered Autodesk on Thursday announced the expansion of its regional data offerings to India, enabling businesses and public sector organisations to store their data within the country. The move enables enterprises, particularly those in regulated sectors such as infrastructure, government, and utilities, to select India as their primary data storage location when utilising Autodesk's cloud collaboration tools. "The newly introduced India-based regional storage offering will empower businesses and public institutions to harness the full potential of cloud-powered design and construction, while delivering international standards of data integrity and performance. "India is a strategic growth market for Autodesk, and we are launching focused initiatives to offer tailored design and make solutions suiting the Indian realities," said Kamolika Peres Gupta, Vice President, India and SAARC, Autodesk. The India-based data storage capability applies to products including Autodesk Docs, Autodesk BIM Collaborate, and Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro. The regional offerings are supported by Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure in India.
