Five teams are set in the knockout stage and the remaining 11 look to join them as the Club World Cup continues.
Group C began the day with a matchup at the top of the group between Benfica and Bayern Munich. Bayern are undefeated so far after a 10-0 versus Auckland City and a 2-1 win over Boca Juniors. They can clinch first in their group with a win or draw. Their opponent beat Auckland 6-0 in their last matchup and will need a win or draw to confirm their placement in the knockout stage.

Auckland and Boca Juniors face off in Nashville, TN. Boca lost a close game to German giants on June 20 and put themselves in a tough situation. The Argentine team will need a win and Bayern to beat Benfica for a chance in the knockout stage.
Flamengo were the first team to win a group in this new Club World Cup format and already have a matchup with either Boca Juniors, Bayern, or Benfica in the knockout stage. Flamengo take on LAFC in a game with no stakes as LAFC are already eliminated from the competition. Flamengo beat Chelsea FC on June 20, 3-1, in one of the best games of the competition so far.
Chelsea will look to clinch a spot into the next round as they face off against Tunisia's Espérance. Both teams sit at three points and the winner of the game will claim second in Group D. The English club failed to beat Flamengo while Espérance pulled out the 1-0 victory over LAFC.

Yankees Announce Marcus Stroman News Before Reds Game

Yankees Announce Marcus Stroman News Before Reds Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. New York Yankees starting pitcher Marcus Stroman is playing in his age-34 season, after being selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the first round of the 2012 MLB Draft. Advertisement Stroman has spent 11 seasons with the Blue Jays, New York Mets, and Chicago Cubs before joining the Yankees, signing a two-year, $37 million deal in the 2024 offseason, with a player option in 2026. Fresh off an All-Star appearance with the Cubs in 2023, he entered New York with high expectations, yet his transition to the Yankees has been rocky. He did not pitch in the ALCS and lost his spot on the roster in the 2024 World Series last postseason, and his unwillingness to transition into a bullpen role this offseason has sparked controversy amongst fans and media. New York Yankees starting pitcher Marcus Stroman (0)Brad Penner-Imagn Images Adding to his struggles, Stroman is currently on the injured list due to left knee inflammation. He was placed on the 15-day injured list in mid-April after a start in which he recorded only two outs and allowed five runs, highlighting his ongoing challenges on the mound. Advertisement In a new announcement, the Yankees revealed that Stroman is scheduled to start Tuesday night's game for the Somerset Patriots (Double-A) as he continues his MLB rehab assignment. It was also later reported that Stroman could make a return to the Yankees' rotation that has been decimated by injuries this year (via Gary Phillips of NY Daily). Even when healthy, Stroman has struggled this season, posting an 11.57 ERA, going 0–1 in three starts, across just 9.1 innings on the mound. These struggles underscore the significant hurdles he faces in reclaiming his form as he attempts to contribute once again at the major league level. Cubs Trade Idea Ships Matt Shaw, Moisés Ballesteros for Alex Bregman

Cubs Trade Idea Ships Matt Shaw, Moisés Ballesteros for Alex Bregman originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Chicago Cubs should be aggressive at the trade deadline. At 46-32, the Cubs hold a 3.5-game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers for the National League Central and look well-positioned to go on a run this October. This crucial 2025 campaign coincides with contract years for star outfielder Kyle Tucker and President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer. Advertisement Neither of them is in Chicago to waste time, and adding a marquee third baseman should be atop the front office's wishlist. One option and a best fit, according to Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan of ESPN, is Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman. Here is what they had to say: 'Bregman has been an elite big league hitter since he entered the league in 2016 but has leaned more into power this year, with his highest isolated power since 2019. Most of his underlying power indicators (barrel rate, maximum exit velo, average launch angle and hard hit rate) are at career highs. His $40 million salary -- and the chance to opt into two more years at $40 million annually -- significantly shortens the list of teams that would take on his deal.' A blockbuster Cubs-Red Sox trade could look something like this: Advertisement Chicago receives: 3B Alex Bregman Boston receives: 3B Matt Shaw, C/1B Moisés Ballesteros (No. 3) Chicago Cubs third baseman Matt Shaw (6) throws to first for an out against the St. Louis Cardinals in the fourth inning at Busch Puetz-Imagn Images The Cubs have been notoriously stingy, especially given their big city, big market resources, under this ownership regime. They were outbid for Bregman's services this past offseason, but have a chance to capitalize on their miss. Bregman is currently on the 10-day injured list with a quad injury, but is not expected to miss much more time. It came at an unfortunate time as the 31-year-old is having one of his better seasons as a Big Leaguer. Bregman is batting .299 with a .938 OPS, a 159 OPS+, 11 home runs, and 22 walks to 42 strikeouts over 51 games. Advertisement Chicago does have former No. 1 prospect Matt Shaw at the hot corner, but his .219 batting average, .610 OPS, and 77 OPS+ are not going to cut it for a team with real title aspirations. Flipping him for an instant upgrade could put this team over the top. Ballesteros is another top prospect for the Cubs. Still, he is easier to sacrifice with Carson Kelly and Miguel Amaya (who is on the shelf for now) having phenomenal seasons at the plate. Boston also gets to replenish its already strong farm system and induce a mini reset on this underwhelming season. This deal would be contingent upon Bregman opting in and sticking with Chicago. There are risks involved, but Hoyer and co. are in no position to take the conservative path. Anaheim Ducks Draft Preview: Best Fits at 10 Overall

Why The Rangers Are Built For A Retool, Not A Rebuild This Off-Season After a catastrophic season that saw them fall from top spot in the NHL's 2023-24 regular season to completely out of the Stanley Cup playoffs this year, the New York Rangers have made significant changes to their organization. Coach Peter Laviolette was replaced with former Pittsburgh Penguins bench boss Mike Sullivan, and longtime core component left winger Chris Kreider was traded to the Anaheim Ducks this week for a prospect and draft pick. And the off-season has barely started.
