
Four suspects sought in distraction theft in Innisfail, Alta.

Innisfail RCMP are looking for help to find four suspects connected to a distraction theft at a local jewelry store.
Mounties said at about 2:30 p.m. on June 12, four people entered the store and while three of them distracted the staff, the fourth was able to get into the back of the store.
He stole 'a substantial amount' of jewelry, police said.
All four suspects were captured on security footage and police are now seeking to identify them.

On Sunday, at about 2:50 p.m., police said they attended a call for mischief call at a home near Adelaide Avenue East and Townline Road North. At the scene, officers from East Division said they found a person's property that had been defaced with 'hateful and derogatory slurs.' Investigators said they believe the victim's residence was 'specifically targeted.' 'We are deeply concerned and disheartened by this act of hate and property damage directed toward the LGBTQ2S+ community and all those impacted by this senseless act,' police said in a news release. 'Everyone deserves to feel safe and accepted for who they are.' An investigation is now underway and police say they're 'committed to ensuring those responsible are held accountable.' (RCMP handout) Two people are facing charges after Cochrane RCMP seized a prohibited sawed-off shotgun and imitation firearms from a home on Stoney Nakoda First Nation. The items were seized while officers executed a search warrant on Sunday. Two men from Mînî Thnî – a 26-year-old and a 28-year-old – are facing multiple charges. One was released from custody and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday, the other remains in custody and appeared in court on Monday. 'This kind of investigation demonstrates that the RCMP is committed to keeping communities safe despite our ongoing resources deployed to support major events such as the G7 Summit,' said Insp. Dave Brunner of the Cochrane RCMP in a Monday news release.

Overnight residential break-and-enters spike across Calgary; 30+ homes hit in recent weeks

There have been more than 30 reports filed in the past several weeks, police say. Most happened between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., while the victims were asleep inside their residences. Entry was often gained through unlocked windows and doors. Vehicle keys as well as various valuables left out in the open were targeted in the incidents. More than 20 vehicles were stolen in the incidents. Police suggest locking windows and doors even when home and not leaving items in obvious places. Police also suggest investing in a safe, motion-activated or timed lights, alarms or cameras. Police are offering an outline of a nightly household routine, as well as other tips, at Suspicious activity can be reported to police by calling 403-266-1234. If your home is broken into, or an attempt is made, police recommend calling 911.
