130th Amendment Bill turns India into dictatorship: Stalin
Chennai: Chief minister M K Stalin described the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill moved by Union home minister Amit Shah in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday as "a black bill". Stalin's post on X came in the wake of protests by opposition MPs, who tore up copies of the bill in the Lok Sabha that sought to remove Central and state ministers arrested or detained in custody for at least 30 days over serious criminal charges. "The 130th Constitutional Amendment is not reform. This is a black day and this is a black bill," Stalin said on X. "A 30-day arrest is equal to removal of an elected CM. No trial and no conviction. It's just BJP's diktat," he added. Stalin said, "The Bill strikes at the very root of democracy, and I call upon all the democratic forces to unite against this attempt to turn India into a dictatorship. BJP govt has decided to defile the Constitution and its democratic foundations by turning India into a dictatorship under the Prime Minister." He called it a sinister attempt to intimidate regional parties in NDA, adding that "the first move of any emerging dictator is to give himself the power to arrest and remove rivals from office.
