Blast outside rapper Badshah's bar: Punjab man with links to gangster Goldy Brar arrested

A man from Punjab has been arrested in connection with the low-intensity blast at Bollywood rapper and singer Badshah's bar and club in Chandigarh in November last year, the Delhi Police said Wednesday. The accused, identified as Deepak, 31, a resident of Faridkot in Punjab, was arrested by a team from the Special Cell's Counter-Intelligence Unit, officers said, adding that he is currently being questioned. No one was injured in the blast which occurred outside Badshah's Bar and Club, located in Chandigarh's Sector 26, on November 26, 2024, but hours later, gangster Goldy Brar claimed responsibility for the incident, purportedly through a social media post. The post, which demanded protection money from the singer, also mentioned the name of gangster Rohit Godara. According to a police officer, Deepak was in Delhi to meet someone when he was arrested. The officer said Deepak has close ties with Brar, a former associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Sources said Deepak had conducted reconnaissance before the blast and was in touch with Brar. The CCTV footage collected from the scene showed a man hurling a bomb outside the bar and running away. Three days after the incident, two men — Vinay, 20, and Ajit Sehrawat, 21, — were arrested in Hisar by joint teams of the Chandigarh Police and Haryana's Hisar district police over suspicion of being involved in the blast. Brar and Bishnoi were allegedly involved in the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in Punjab's Mansa in May 2022. The two are said to have ended their association recently and are now operating separate extortion rackets. Brar, whose original name is Satwinder Singh, carries a reward of Rs 10 lakh for his arrest, announced by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He is a wanted accused in several cases in Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand, and is reported to be residing in the United States. Gangster Godara is also believed to be hiding in the US.

As cybercrime cases rise sharply, state strengthens its forensic response

Patna: With a manifold rise in the number of cybercrime cases in the last few years, the state has taken several steps to strengthen its response, including a plan to establish cyber forensic units in Patna and Rajgir. The state reported a 200% surge from 1,606 cybercrime cases in 2022 to 4,801 in 2023, which further rose to 5,712 in 2024. This year, 3,258 cases have been reported in the first five months only. The growing menace of cybercrime has also led to an overwhelming number of calls to the helpline number 1930, with approximately 25 lakh calls received in 2024-25. National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal also reported around 94,000 complaints in the past year, with nearly 80,000 related to financial fraud, said a senior officer at Bihar Police headquarters (PHQ) on Wednesday. Addressing the reporters at the PHQ, additional director general (ADG) of Crime Investigation Department (CID), Parasnath said, attributed the rise to an increasing use of the internet and digital transactions in the country. "The major types of cybercrimes being reported in Bihar are digital arrest, online fraud, bank scams, social media hacking, phishing, fake customer care calls and identity theft. Criminals often deceive people through phone calls, emails, social media, or fake websites to obtain their bank account details, passwords or OTPs, and then manipulate their funds," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo To combat this issue, the state's Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Patna has been actively working on cybercrime cases, conducting technical examinations of mobile phones, laptops, CCTV footage and other digital evidence. In 2024, the FSL handled 255 cases, resolving 135 of them. By July 2025, 206 cases were received for investigation, with reports provided for 75 cases so far. "The state govt has also approved the establishment of cyber forensic units in Patna and Rajgir. National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Gandhinagar has been appointed as a consultant for this project. The Bihar govt has allocated approximately Rs 13 crore for this initiative. A memorandum of understanding was signed on July 29, between the Bihar CID and NFSU," the ADG said. Under this agreement, the NFSU will provide technical assistance, consultancy services and training for the establishment of the cyber forensic laboratories. The agreement is set to last for five years. Parasnath said that additionally, NFSU will conduct specialised training programmes for Bihar police and forensic laboratory personnel to enhance their skills in handling cybercrime cases. "The collaboration is expected to expedite the investigation process and improve the quality of investigations, instilling a sense of fear among cybercriminals and contributing to effective crime control in the state," he added. AAP accuses govt of protecting Adani in US Court case

New Delhi, Aug 13 (UNI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today trained its guns at Gautam Adani, saying a summons was issued by a US court against the businessman but the Indian government didn't act on it in an alleged bid to shield him. AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj claimed the US District Court for Eastern New York had issued the summons in September 2024 related to alleged corruption involving Rs 2,200 crore, but it remained unserved due to government inaction. 'Remarkably, six months have passed, yet the summons have not reached Adani. The reason? India's Law and Justice Department, under the Central Government, has not served it. In cases like this, international treaties ensure that governments cooperate in delivering legal documents. But in Adani's case, the Indian Government has failed to act,' Saurabh Bharadwaj said. The case, filed by US Department of Justice, alleges violations of Foreign Corrupt Practices Act concerning Adani's energy projects that secured American investments. Bharadwaj contrasted this with BJP's past demands for opposition leaders to face legal processes. The AAP leader cited instances where the Adani Group secured contracts in Kenya, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh after PM Modi's visits, though no wrongdoing has been proven. 'Until now, these were only allegations. But the U.S. Department of Justice summons is evidence—proof that the Modi Government is actively shielding Adani from an ongoing judicial process abroad. This is direct interference to protect a crony from corruption proceedings, and it is deeply damaging to our nation's credibility,' concluded Saurabh Bharadwaj.
