Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iraq...., THESE are the main US military bases in the Middle East? Check location, country and names
Iran strongly condemned the United States for bombing its nuclear sites and criticised US President Donald Trump, calling him a 'gambler' for supporting Israel's military actions against Iran. The tension spiked after the US dropped powerful bunker-buster bombs on Iranian nuclear facilities early Sunday, officially entering the conflict on Israel's side. Since then, Iran has been warning of a strong response.
If Iran decides to hit back, it could target American military bases in the Middle East. Here are some of the key U.S. bases in the region but first let us know what is a military base: What is a Military Base?
A military base is a place where soldiers live, train, and work. It is owned and run by a country's military and usually has buildings, vehicles, weapons, and other equipment. Some bases are used to plan missions, some for training, and others for testing new tools and systems.
Most military bases need help from outside to get supplies like food, water, and fuel. But some large bases are built to be self-sufficient and can support the people living there even if they are cut off for a while.
There are different types of bases: air bases are where military planes are kept and operated, while naval bases are for military ships.
As of July 2024, the U.S. had at least 128 military bases in other countries. The largest one is Camp Humphreys in South Korea. It's the biggest US base overseas in terms of area.
Since 2001, between 1.9 and 3 million U.S. troops have served in wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. More than half of them went more than once, according to a report by the Watson Institute at Brown University. BAHRAIN Main Role: Headquarters of the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet.

Ain Al Asad Air Base (Anbar Province, Western Iraq) Supports Iraqi security forces and the NATO mission.
Was targeted by Iranian missiles in 2020 after the U.S. killed Iranian General Qasem Soleimani.
Remains one of the largest U.S. military installations in Iraq.
Erbil Air Base (Kurdistan Region, Northern Iraq) Acts as a hub for U.S. and coalition training exercises.

US is making it tougher to obtain green card for married couples. Here's why

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has updated its policy manual, increasing screening and vetting of family-based immigrant visa petitions. The changes to the policy manual have been introduced to curb marriage fraud. Here's what spouses should know read more The US has tightened rules to get family-based green cards. Representational Image/Reuters The United States is making it harder for foreign spouses to get a green card, formally called legal permanent residency. To crack down on marriage fraud, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has beefed up the scrutiny of family-based immigrant visa petitions. This comes as the Trump administration has intensified efforts to curb illegal immigration and tightened rules for those seeking US visas. The changes also come as the US immigration backlog reached 11.3 million cases by the second quarter of FY2025. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Let's take a closer look. US' new guidelines for green card seekers USCIS has updated guidelines for married people seeking green cards, tightening screening and vetting of family-based immigrant visa petitions. US citizens can sponsor their spouses, unmarried children under 21, and parents. Published on August 1 in the USCIS Policy Manual under the section titled 'Family Based Immigrants', the agency said in its policy guidance that it has enhanced eligibility checks and adjudication processes for such green card applicants. Those seeking permanent residency in the US will have to furnish more comprehensive evidence of bona fide marriage, such as photographs, financial documents and even affidavits from friends and family in some cases, reported Times of India (TOI). The couple will have to appear for in-person interviews for USCIS to assess how well they know each other, proving the authenticity of the relationship. If an American citizen is found filing applications for different spouses, or previous applications on behalf of the beneficiary, such cases will be rigorously scrutinised. The immigration history of the sponsored spouse will be reviewed if they are already in the US on other visas, such as an H-1B visa. A green card application can be rejected, and removal proceedings initiated, in the case of a violation of visa status or past fraudulent activity. Moreover, the updated guidelines underline that the approval of a family-based immigrant visa application does not grant relief from removal. USCIS may issue a 'Notice to Appear if the alien beneficiary is otherwise removable since a family-based immigrant visa petition does not grant immigration status or relief from removal.' Why are the changes being brought? USCIS has introduced the updates to ensure only genuine relationships, especially bona fide marriages, of US citizens get green card status. 'Fraudulent, frivolous, or otherwise non-meritorious family-based immigrant visa petitions erode confidence in family-based pathways to lawful permanent resident (LPR) status and undermine family unity in the United States. This guidance will improve USCIS' capacity to vet qualifying marriages and family relationships to ensure they are genuine, verifiable, and compliant with all applicable laws,' the agency said. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'USCIS is prioritising robust alien screening and vetting that protects Americans from potential national security threats. We are committed to keeping Americans safe by detecting aliens with potentially harmful intent so they can be processed for removal from the United States,' it added. The policy update comes in the wake of several marriage fraud cases, including a recent one involving an Indian. In May, Aakash Prakash Makwana pleaded guilty to entering a fake marriage after overstaying his J-1 visa. He forged documents to show cohabitation and falsely claimed domestic abuse to secure a US green card. With inputs from agencies

Trade protest: Farmers' outfits call for nationwide stir on August 13; retaliation against Trump's tariff threat, CETA

NEW DELHI: A joint platform of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) and ten central trade unions on Monday announced a nationwide protest on August 13 against the proposed 25 percent US tariff and the recently signed India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). In a joint statement, the CTUs-SKM criticised US President Donald Trump's tariff threat and a proposed tax aimed at India's oil trade with Russia. The platform urged widespread mobilisation for what it called a "nationwide day of resistance". 'CTUs-SKM calls upon all farmers, workers, students, and patriotic citizens to join the nationwide day of resistance on August 13, 2025, with various mass actions like tractor and motorcycle rallies, protest demonstrations, public gatherings, and other forms of protest as decided by different platforms and partner organisations,' the statement said. The statement demanded that the Indian government reject Trump's tariff threats and maintain its right to conduct trade with any country, including Russia. It also called for a review and amendment of the India-UK CETA. The platform urged the government to stop all discussions related to a potential India-US trade agreement, stating that any future trade deals must be made public and undergo parliamentary and public scrutiny. It also said that secret negotiations should be avoided. Drawing comparisons with the colonial period, the platform said trade agreements like CETA and those proposed with the United States have the potential to shape policies in favour of foreign corporations. Quoting the statement, ANI reported that 'on August 13, farmers and workers will rally to defend India's sovereignty and freedom,' describing the US move as 'an act of economic coercion attempting to dictate New Delhi's policies, including its trade with Russia.' The unions stated that the approach reflects a policy wherein the US seeks open access to foreign markets while using tariffs to pressure countries. The statement claimed that this undermines India's ability to make independent trade and economic decisions. It also said the Indian government's silence on the issue reflected a pattern of alignment with Western trade and foreign policy interests. According to the statement, this was visible in the India-UK CETA, which it said impacts the interests of domestic sectors including agriculture and labour. The platform argued that failure to resist such moves could result in an India-US trade agreement that allows greater access to the agricultural and dairy markets for American companies, affecting prices and rural livelihoods. It further stated that such trade policies could lead to reduced manufacturing activity and a rise in job losses. Regarding the India-UK CETA, the joint platform stated it would affect food security, access to public healthcare, and broader economic autonomy.
