Bengals to release linebacker Germaine Pratt, saving $5.6M on salary cap, AP sources say
The Cincinnati Bengals are releasing linebacker Germaine Pratt, two people with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press.
The people spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the move has not been announced.
NFL Network first reported Pratt's release. The move comes on the eve of the Bengals mandatory minicamp, which starts Tuesday.
The move gives the Bengals $5.6 million in salary cap savings.
Pratt, who was going into the final season of a three-year contract, was one of the longest-tenured Bengals but requested a trade during the offseason. He was a third-round pick in 2019 and started 88 games over six seasons.
He was ninth in the NFL last season with 143 tackles, including two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions.
Cincinnati has had plenty of questions about the defense during the offseason. It hired Al Golden as coordinator while defensive end Trey Hendrickson, who led the league in sacks last season, has been involved in his own contract dispute.

In the end, though, Dobbins and the Red Sox got the last laugh. Despite giving up those two runs in the first inning, Dobbins was solid against the Yankees lineup after that. He allowed one more earned run and four hits total over his five innings of work. Boston's offense also unloaded midway through the rivalry game, with Kristian Campbell hitting a two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning to get them on the board. Then, in the top of the sixth inning, a five-spot was put on the home team thanks in part to Carlos Narvàez's three-run homer. The Red Sox would add two runs each in the top of the eighth and ninth innings to ultimately beat their AL East rival 11-7, winning their first series of the year two games to one. Judge went yard once more in the bottom of the ninth inning to cut the Red Sox's lead to four, going to the bullpen in right-center to finish his night 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBI. Despite the loss over the weekend, the Yankees are still leading the division at 39-25. However, the Red Sox perhaps found some new life beating one of the best teams in baseball in this series. They are now 32-35 going into the week, where they will see New York once again with a weekend grudge match at Fenway Park in Boston. Packers to reportedly release 2-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander
The Green Bay Packers are cutting ties with cornerback Jaire Alexander. The two-time Pro Bowler will reportedly be released Tuesday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. It marks quite the fall for Alexander, a former first-round draft pick who was one of the team's best players as recently as the 2022 season, when he was selected to his second Pro Bowl. But injuries have plagued Alexander over the past two years. Back and shoulder issues limited Alexander to seven games in 2023. A knee issue caused Alexander to play in just seven games in 2024. Advertisement Prior to those injuries, Alexander had emerged as one of the better cornerbacks in the NFL. After a promising rookie season in 2018, Alexander started in all 16 games in his second season. He earned his first Pro Bowl selection in 2020 and was second team All-Pro. He was limited to just four games in 2021 due to a shoulder injury, but bounced back in 2022 to play in all 16 games, once again earning Pro Bowl and second team All-Pro team honors. After signing a four-year, $84 million extension in 2022, Alexander was set to make over $16 million in 2025. The Packers reportedly offered Alexander a restructured deal in May, which would have resulted in Alexander taking a pay cut. It appears Alexander did not want to take that deal, leading to his reported release. The last two seasons in which Alexander played double-digit games, he made the Pro Bowl. That should give the 28-year-old multiple options now that he's reportedly hit the free-agent market. Given his injury struggles, Alexander may need to settle for a short-term deal. If he can stay healthy and return to form, Alexander could fetch a much larger contract on the market next season.

He was a member of the Bengals' 2021 squad that took down the Kansas City Chiefs to earn a spot in the Super Bowl before coming up just short in a loss to the Los Angeles Rams. This output earned him a starting role extremely fast, pairing up with Logan Wilson in Year 2 as the full-time starter after even starting nine games as a rookie. It even earned him a second contract with the team, signing a three-year contract extension in 2023 worth $20.25 million in total and earning him $7 million in guaranteed money. Pratt was in the last year of that deal as he now hits the free agency market.
