Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee to join TelanganaRising advisory board
Development economist and Nobel Prize winner Abhijit Banerjee appreciated the pioneering efforts of Telangana government, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, like recruitment of transgender individuals into Police and Municipal departments, envisioning the Hyderabad core urban area within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) as a pure-services zone, and creating skills and sports universities. He also accepted the invitation from the Chief Minister to join the Vision Board of TelanganaRising as advisor.
On Saturday, Mr. Banerjee met the Chief Minister and deliberated on several innovative ideas in urban development, economic growth, augmenting public revenues, fiscal discipline, large-scale skilling and job creation.
While discussing mass-scale job creation, the Nobel laureate spoke of the need to create unique short-term courses in traditional skills with modern design and appeal, marketing and the use of social media technology to help traditional artisans turn into modern entrepreneurs. He also suggested to the Chief Minister that crafts, arts and creativity should be a significant part of the Bharat Future City.
Outlining Hyderabad's historically global vision and the global reach of products made in the region, Chief Minister spoke of the need to create global awareness. Mr. Reddy also elaborated on various empowerment programmes for women self-help groups, youth and farmers.
Minister for IT and Industries Duddilla Sridhar Babu, Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, Finance Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Hyderabad Commissioner of Police C. V. Anand and other officials participated in the discussion.

Condemn This So-Called Bangladesh Election...: Awami League Leader Rabbi Alam
Rabbi Alam, Chairman of Joy Bangla Brigade and vice president of Bangladesh Awami League, USA, has condemned the announcement of national election by the interim government of Bangladesh and maintained that Sheikh Hasina "is the duly elected Prime Minister" till 2029. In an interview with ANI, Alam slammed Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the interim government of Bangladesh, for announcing that a national election would be held in the first half of April 2026. Sheikh Hasina, president of Awami League, was ousted from power in a student-led uprising in August last year. She fled to India, and an interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, a Nobel Laureate, was formed. "As you know, Bangladesh went through was a false flag operation. The protest led by the students was hijacked by (people now in) the interim government headed by Dr Yunus," Rabbi Alam alleged. Rabbi Alam said "many false allegations, many false claims, empty promises" were made. He said the announcement of a national election is "like a lollipop being handed to a young child". Rabbi Alam said Bangladesh is to be run by a democratic form of government. "Our constitution is the core of the fundamentals of the nation and this constitution gives the rights. Sheikh Hasina is democratically elected. We will condemn this so-called election because, according to our constitution, Sheikh Hasina is the Prime Minister until 2029. People are the main powerhouse in a democratic form of government. People voted, elected Sheikh Hasina...," he said. "With a false flag operation, Dr Yunus robbed our democracy," he alleged. He expressed concern over the law and order situation in Bangladesh and blamed Muhammad Yunus. "We know that the country faced a heavy backlash. There are many incidents of rape, killing, arson, burning, fire. Lynching, mob justice is every day matter," he alleged. He also said that Dr Yunus "doesn't understand politics" and "is an economist". Bangladesh's interim government on Friday announced that the national election will be held in the first half of April 2026. "I am announcing to the countrymen today that the next national elections will be held sometime in the first half of April 2026. Based on this announcement, the Election Commission will provide you with a detailed roadmap for the elections in due course", said Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser to the interim government of Bangladesh, in an address to the nation through state television, BTV, on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha. Political parties in Bangladesh have expressed mixed reactions to the announcement of the national election.

Home Minister Amit Shah felicitates Chhattisgarh police officers
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday (June 7, 2025) met police officers from Chhattisgarh who played a key role in recent anti-Maoist operations. Congratulating them on the success of these operations, he said that the Union Government is 'committed to freeing India from the menace of Maoism'. In a post on X, the Home Minister said, 'Met the officers who played a crucial role in the recent anti-Maoist operations and congratulated them on the historic success of these operations. I am eager to meet the brave jawans who made these operations successful with their courage and will soon visit Chhattisgarh to meet them. The police officers were felicitated for recent operation carried out by the Chhattisgarh Police, including its District Reserve Guards (DRG) units from Narayanpur, Dantewada, Kondagaon, and Bijapur districts, in the interior areas of Abujhmad from May 18 to 21. On May 21, during an encounter in the forests of Boter village, 27 Maoists, including Communist Party of India (Maoist) general secretary and Polit Bureau member Basavaraju, alias Gaganna, were killed. A huge quantity of arms and ammunition too were recovered. The officers involved in the operation, including Chhattisgarh Director-General of Police Arun Dev Gautam; Additional DGP (Anti-Maoist Operations/SIB/STF) Vivekanand; Inspector-General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj; Superintendent of Police (Narayanpur) Prabhat Kumar; Superintendent of Police (Bijapur) Jitendra Yadav; and Superintendent of Police (Maoist-free Bastar District) Shalabh Singh, were felicitated by Mr. Shah. The event was attended by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai; Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sharma; Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan; Director, Intelligence Bureau Tapan Kumar Deka; and several other senior officials.
