National Medical Commission clears all 34 govt medical colleges in Telangana without penalty
This comes just weeks after the NMC had issued show-cause notices to 26 colleges in the state citing deficiencies in infrastructure, clinical benchmarks, and faculty strength. However, health officials confirmed that the commission has now given the green signal for the upcoming academic year, ensuring that all 4,090 MBBS seats remain intact in the state.
Officials said the NMC appreciated the state govt's swift corrective measures, particularly efforts to address faculty shortages.
Recently, 44 senior professors were promoted to the position of additional directors of medical education and appointed as principals and hospital superintendents across various institutions.

In addition, 278 associate professors were promoted to professors, addressing long-standing vacancies in faculty leadership and academic hierarchy. The process is also underway to promote 231 assistant professors to associate professor positions—part of a broader strategy to fill gaps through internal promotions in the absence of sufficient direct recruitment at higher levels.

Ahmedabad: In a first-of-its-kind initiative, Gujarat will begin a large-scale genome mapping project focusing exclusively on its tribal communities. Teams of scientists will travel to towns and villages in 17 districts with significant tribal populations to collect 4,158 biological samples, including blood, leading to the creation of about 2,000 whole genome sequences (WGS) representing over 20 tribal communities. Officials said that while Gujarat samples were earlier part of the national-level Genome India Project, this is the first dedicated effort to build a reference genome database solely for the tribal population of one state. N oida/Ghaziabad: A focused campaign has been launched to curb stunting and other forms of child malnutrition in GB Nagar and Ghaziabad districts, under the Sambhav Abhiyan 5.0. A total of 100 anganwadi centres in each district have been identified for close monitoring, based on the concentration of children under five showing signs of stunted growth. The campaign, which began on July 15 and will continue until July 31, focuses on growth measurement and real-time data verification. The aim is to identify children suffering from chronic malnutrition, update their health status on the nutrition tracker, and implement timely interventions, officials said. Previously, TOI had reported that, in GB Nagar, 789 children under the age of six were identified as severely acutely malnourished (SAM), and another 3,394 children were classified as moderately acutely malnourished (MAM).
