Breakout night for Wilke leads USD past Kansas City
VERMILLION, S.D. (USD) — The Coyotes, behind stout defense and a career-high in scoring for Gabby Wilke, picked up a much-needed 63-56 victory over Kansas City in the annual Pink Game Wednesday night inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center. Wilke poured in a career-high 21 points, including five triples, to pace the Coyote charge offensively. Carley Duffney scored 11 of the 16 Coyote points in the fourth quarter, finishing with 18 points. Kansas City held a one-point edge after one quarter of play, but the Yotes won each of the final three quarters to seal a win. The Coyotes used an 8-0 run to separate in the middle of the second quarter, and didn't surrender the lead for the remainder of the game. By halftime, Wilke had already matched her career-high with 13 points and was the lone Coyote in double figures to pace the charge for the Yotes. Kansas City held Grace Larkins in check, keeping her to seven points in the first half and 16 for the game. After scoring just seven points in the first half, and not getting a shot up in the third quarter, Duffney flipped the switch in the fourth quarter to seal the Coyote victory. Kansas City cut the USD lead to three, 50-47 with 5:16 to play, but from there, it was Duffney's time to shine. She scored nine straight points, and 11 of the final 13 points for USD. She was 3-of-6 from the field but added 5-of-6 from the free throw line in the quarter. Larkins recorded her 13th double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Chiefs DE George Karlaftis to throw first pitch at Jac Caglianone's Kauffman Stadium debut
Chiefs DE George Karlaftis to throw first pitch at Jac Caglianone's Kauffman Stadium debut The Kansas City Chiefs will be well represented at Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday, June 10. According to Matt Foster of KSHB 41 News, star defensive end George Karlaftis is set to throw out the first pitch at the Kansas City Royals' series opener against the New York Yankees. Though the Royals and Yankees aren't typically considered rivals, Kansas City was defeated by New York in the American League Division Series of the 2024 MLB Postseason, so it wouldn't be a stretch to think that the teams may get chippy. Tomorrow's game will be notable for Kansas City's fans because Royals rookie Jac Caglianone — one of MLB's most promising young sluggers — is set to make his home debut against New York in the evening matchup. Karlaftis should be expected to bring a unique enthusiasm to the baseball diamond during his first pitch, and his raucous attitude is sure to be a benefit for Royals players when he cheers the team on from the grandstands.

WWE's 'The Miz' wants Browns to follow the Chiefs' rookie plan for Patrick Mahomes
WWE's 'The Miz' wants Browns to follow the Chiefs' rookie plan for Patrick Mahomes This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke to Mike 'The Miz' Mizanin about his participation in this year's American Century Championship, which will take place July 9-13 at Edgewood Tahoe, and his favorite team, the Cleveland Browns, whom he hopes will take a tip from the Kansas City Chiefs. "When I first saw what we (Cleveland Browns) did with the second pick, I wanted Travis Hunter; I think he's a generational talent. He's going to play offense-defense. The best football player in the draft is what you're hearing. And then when I saw what we got for that second pick, I was like, wow, we just got a haul. So right then and there. I said, You know what? These guys know exactly what they're doing," said Miz, "Now, do we have a huge quarterback room? Yes. But do we need a huge quarterback room? Yes, because we can never find a good quarterback who is our franchise player. So I think now is when we're going to have a little competition, like to be, you know, to go up against each other. And I'm excited to see what Shedeur (Sanders), Dillon Gabriel, Kenny Pickett, and Joe Flacco can do in that quarterback room. Hopefully, the young kids can learn from Flacco because he is a Super Bowl-winning quarterback, and I'm hoping that, you know, one of their college careers translates to the NFL." Miz mentioned Shedeur Sanders as his choice for the future franchise quarterback role. However, he wants Kansas City to utilize the process during Patrick Mahomes' rookie season. "I can sit here and say any name, and you never know until you get to the first game in the NFL and all the defensive packages are put into place, and you see how well they're able to look at the field and see the field and see where they need to go. So that's what I'm looking forward to. I look forward to seeing them get on the field and do something during a real NFL game. I'm not talking preseason, either. We can talk about the draft, rookie OTAs, regular OTAs, and the preseason. It all comes to fruition when the NFL season comes, and that's what I'm looking forward to," said Miz, "Hopefully, they'll be able to sit back and watch for a little while before they get in. I always think of what they did with Patrick Mahomes; Kansas City was the perfect situation for him. He got to sit a year learning from Alex Smith, and now he's one of the best quarterbacks ever to do it. So, hopefully, we'll be able to do the same thing." The annual tournament awards $750,000 in prize money, much of which the celebrity players donate to local and national charities. Over the years, nearly $8 million has been donated to non-profit causes. Network television exposure on NBC, along with a first-place prize of $150,000, makes the celebrity tournament one of the most prestigious in the golf world.
