Miley Cyrus breaks down how she mended ‘messy' family relationships after decade of drama

She doesn't always come in like a wrecking ball. Miley Cyrus described how she mended her 'messy' family's relationships after a decade of drama — without getting a therapist involved. 'We're so messy, we didn't even do any of that,' the former Disney Channel star, 32, joked to Monica Lewinsky on Tuesday's episode of the 'Reclaiming' podcast. 'Just to get each other into a room to get to counseling would have been a war,' the 'Hannah Montana' alum explained of their 'really difficult … dark decade.' The singer noted that 'half of [her family members] weren't speaking to each other at one point,' clarifying that she 'had a lot of loyalty to' mom Tish Cyrus amid her divorce from dad Billy Ray Cyrus. The former couple, notably, called it quits in 2022 after welcoming Miley, son Braison, 31, and daughter Noah, 25. They each also had children from previous romances. Billy Ray is the father of son Cody, 33, and adopted Tish's eldest two children — Brandi, 38, and Trace, 36 — after they wed in 1993. Throughout her parents' on-again, off-again relationship, Miley 'watched what happens when you don't clean things up as they're happening.' She said, 'They really do stack. And then all of the sudden you go, 'Oh my God, it's been 10 years and this is a mess I barely even know how to start. This is emotional hoarding.'' The actress broke down how she 'cleaned all that up' and spent 'a really important part of [her] year … putting those lines of communication back together.' She recalled, 'I just kind of busted through the pile that stacked and just [went], 'I'm here, you're here, let's start by having a good time together and then as we start bringing some happiness and joy into each other's life, then we'll be in a better place to have these conversations.'' Miley told listeners she'd 'rather get it balanced first,' noting that it 'was easier to [wave] a white flag' than pursue counseling. The 'Last Song' star prefers others to decide they 'like the way she's functioning' and attempt to 'mimic' it. Miley revealed she will be tackling her family drama on her next album, dropping the title of one track 'Secrets.' The song, she said, is about wanting her dad 'to feel safe enough to tell [her] the things that were damning and damaging to the family.' The performer is currently promoting her 'Something Beautiful' visual album, which debuted in May. Earlier that same month, Miley made headlines for reuniting with Billy Ray, 63, at Braison's birthday party. She went on to give her two cents on the country singer's viral romance with Elizabeth Hurley on the 'Interview' podcast. The songwriter said her 'adult self' understands that her dad, who divorced Firerose in 2024 after less than one year of marriage, is 'just another person that deserves to be in his bliss and to be happy.' Tish, for her part, has been married to 'Prison Break' alum Dominic Purcell — who was allegedly seeing Noah prior to the romance — in 2023.

Disney Bringing Back Classic Series After Nearly 20 Years

Disney's unique catalogue of films and shows have become nostalgic for numerous generations. As such, it's no surprise that the studio tends to rejuvenate their countless IPs every so often. Now, after nearly 20 years, it looks like Disney is bringing back a classic series for a new premiere on the Disney Channel. With physical releases and streaming services including Disney's own Disney Plus, it's nice to know that the company still makes an event out of their Disney Channel television network. And, for this particular series which one aired regularly on the channel, it's nice to see it make a comeback. Of course, there's a perfectly good reason this series is being brought back after so long. Specifically, it's to tie in with a new release that's doing quite well in theaters at this moment in time. Disney definitely knows what they're doing in that regard. The aforementioned theatrical film is none other than Lilo & Stitch , with the Disney Channel series being Lilo & Stitch: The Series , the original animated show that follows the events of the first Lilo & Stitch movie. Now that the live-action adaptation has become a hit in theaters, the Disney Channel is once again airing Lilo & Stitch: The Series for the first time in nearly 20 years, a brilliant marketing move as Lilo & Stitch merch continues to fly off the shelves. As you can see in the schedule shared below via Instagram featuring the classic Disney Channel series and various other shows coming to the network: Lilo & Stitch is currently playing in theaters. In addition, fans will now be able to spend the summer enjoying Lilo & Stitch : The Series on the Disney Channel, where it will begin airing on June 26. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Lilo & Stitch news and any additional Disney updates as we have them. It's great to see this franchise once again having its moment in the spotlight, especially after having quite the hiatus in North America the last two decades.

Miley Cyrus Tells Monica Lewinsky About Losing 'Everything': 'My 2013 Is Your 1998'

Miley Cyrus says she 'lost everything' during a turbulent period of her life, following her Disney Channel days. The singer reflected on the difficult chapter in her life during an appearance on Monica Lewinsky's 'Reclaiming' podcast posted Wednesday. 'My 2013 is your 1998, because that was the time where I just got just hit so hard and I was so embarrassed,' Cyrus told Lewinsky. 'I mean, there was even a time where my brother and sister didn't want to go to school because of how humiliated they were to be related to me.' 'I lost everything during that time in my personal life because of the choices I was making professionally,' Cyrus shared. 'You know, if I kept dressing or acting a certain way, my relationships fell apart. No one wanted to date me, because they didn't want to be with a woman [with] that sexual expression part ― [it] was not for them.' 'I was engaged at the time ― that didn't work out,' Cyrus said, referencing her broken engagement with her now-ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth. 'I was sharing a part of myself that men wanted to be saved for them only,' she said. 'And the fact that I would pose nude or dance in very little clothes or show my body was making them feel like I was taking something away that was meant to be for them.' The 'Flowers' singer added that she had a really hard time dating and also interacting with her family. 'It was really hard for me to go home and see my dad and, like, look him in the eyes and not feel super embarrassed,' she said, later adding, 'Going home and seeing my grandparents was just mortifying.' Cyrus, who is currently on a press tour to promote her newest album, also reflected recently on how she attempted to rehabilitate her professional life in order to keep a 'happy home' with Hemsworth. 'When me and Liam split up the first time with 'Bangerz,' it was because it was like I was this provocateur and it was highly sexualized,' Cyrus said during an appearance on the 'Every Single Album' podcast last week. Four years after 'Bangerz,' Cyrus released an album called 'Younger Now,' with which she says she tried to play 'into this innocence.' 'If I'm younger now, if I'm less awake as this sexual woman publicly, then this is going to be the way that I can keep a happy home,' she shared.
