BJP demands CBI probe in stampede case
Karnataka Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka wrote a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday, urging that the case be handed over to the CBI.
Ashoka stated, 'Our fight will not stop until justice is delivered to the families of the 11 innocent youths who lost their lives in the tragedy caused by the negligence of the Congress government during the IPL victory celebrations.
By projecting the police department as solely responsible for the tragedy, the government is attempting to evade its own accountability. I have written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, demanding that the case be handed over to the CBI to ensure justice for the victims' families.'
In his letter, Ashoka noted, 'Eleven people were killed and more than 56 injured during the RCB victory celebrations on June 4. The incident sparked nationwide discussion and has become a black mark in the sporting history of the state. There have been allegations and counter-allegations between the police and the state government regarding the incident.'
'The media has reported that the stampede occurred due to the failure of the police department.
However, the government has simply suspended a few police officers and remained silent. The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), while reviewing a petition by one of the suspended officers, opined that it was not appropriate to hold only the police responsible,' he stated.
'It still remains unclear who is truly responsible for the tragedy, and the public also has the same question. Therefore, I urge you not to politicise this matter and to hand over the case to the CBI to ensure justice for the innocent lives lost,' Ashoka demanded.

Bengaluru Ex Top Cop Won't Be Reinstated In Same Position: Karnataka Minister
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Tuesday said that the former Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda, whose suspension has been revoked by the government along with three other police officers, will not be reinstated in the same position, and will be given a post equivalent to his ranking. The Karnataka government on Monday revoked the suspension of four police officers, including Dayananda, who were suspended in connection with the June 4 stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium here, which left 11 people dead, pending the initiation of disciplinary proceedings. The officials whose suspensions were revoked are IPS officers: B Dayananda - Additional Director General of Police and Shekar H Tekkannavar - Superintendent of Police. Also, two Karnataka State Police Service officers: C Balakrishna - Dy SP and A K Girish - Police Inspector. However, the suspension of Vikash Kumar Vikash - Inspector General of Police, stands as proceedings related to his case are currently underway in the Karnataka High Court, official sources said. According to the government order, the suspension has been revoked as both the Judicial Commission and Magisterial committee have completed their inquiry into the stampede incident and submitted their reports to the government, and the officers also have submitted representations requesting to revoke their suspension. They have been reinstated into service with immediate effect, pending the initiation of disciplinary proceedings, as per rules, it said. "The report (of judicial commission) was discussed in the cabinet and after the discussion, the cabinet had taken a decision to reinstate them and continue the inquiry (departmental inquiry) against them. So accordingly, they will be reinstated and inquiry will be continued," Parameshwara said. Speaking to reporters here, he said, "One official (Vikash) had gone to CAT, hence he has not got this opportunity. In case directions come to reinstate him or any other directions, it will be considered." Vikash had challenged his suspension before the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), which revoked the suspension order on July 1. The government has challenged the CAT order in the High Court, and the case is still pending. To a question about whether it was a set back to the state government, the home minister said, "How is it a set back? It (suspension) was our (government) was an administrative decision, it has been inquiry has continued. Let's see what comes out." Asked about whether Dayananda would be reinstated as the Bengaluru Police Commissioner, Parameshwara said, "He will not be given the same position as Commissioner. He will be given an equivalent post to his ranking." The stampede occurred on June 4 evening outside the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru, where a large number of people thronged to participate in the RCB team's IPL victory celebrations. Eleven people died and 56 were injured in the incident. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on June 5 ordered the suspension of five officers.

Wait, what? 261 IPL jerseys worth ₹6.5 lakh stolen from Wankhede Stadium
A security guard at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) office in Mumbai was arrested for stealing IPL 2025 team jerseys worth ₹ 6.5 lakh. The theft took place at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. The accused, identified as 40-year-old Farooque Aslam Khan, allegedly stole 261 jerseys, each valued at around ₹ 2,500. Police said Khan committed the theft to fund his online gambling habit. The incident reportedly occurred on June 13 but only came to light after a routine audit revealed missing stock from the storeroom. Upon checking CCTV footage, BCCI officials saw Khan walking out with a box full of jerseys. The stolen kits were of different IPL teams, though it remains unclear whether they were meant for players or for public sale. Investigators said Khan sold the jerseys to an online dealer based in Haryana, whom he had connected with through social media. "The guard claims he haggled a bit with the online dealer, but he hasn't yet specified how much he got for the deal," a police source told TOI. The police further stated that the jerseys were sent via courier to the Haryana-based dealer, who has now been summoned for questioning. "The online dealer says he was not aware that the jerseys had been stolen," a police official said. "The guard had told the man in Haryana that the jerseys were part of a stock clearance sale due to renovation work that was going on at the office." So far, 50 of the 261 stolen jerseys have been recovered. Khan has reportedly told police that he received payment directly into his bank account but lost all the money to online gambling. "He the guard claims he lost it all to online gambling," the police source added. Authorities are now verifying his bank details to confirm his version of events. The BCCI filed an official complaint with the Marine Drive Police Station on 17 July.
