Changing of the Guard returns to Istana Negara with full military honours, draws local and foreign tourists
The ceremony, which began at 9 am, also included two officers and 22 horsemen from the 21st Ceremonial Mounted Squadron (SIB) under the command of the 12th Brigade Headquarters.
The event began with the outgoing guards marching from the palace compound and taking their positions at the main gate, followed by the incoming guards taking their place opposite them.
This was followed by the handover of the regimental colours, symbolising the formal changeover between the outgoing and incoming palace guards. The ceremony was witnessed by 1 RAMD Commanding Officer, Colonel Mohd Fuad Md Ghazali and Commanding Officer of the SIB, Lieutenant Colonel Shahrul Azudin Maulod.
Speaking to reporters, Mohd Fuad said the ceremony not only involved a physical change of guards but also carried significant symbolic value in continuing Malaysia's military heritage.

He said it reflected the identity of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) as a force prepared for the battlefield while also upholding national honour and tradition.
'Apart from being a symbol of respect for the Royal Institution, the Changing of the Guard Ceremony also attracts tourists from within and outside the country.
'The uniqueness of the ceremony, which combines military elements, culture, and Malay heritage, makes it one of the nation's proud traditions. It also provides the public with a rare opportunity to witness the beauty of military customs not often seen by the general public,' he said.

Terengganu ‘ghost ship' cleared of hazards after safety inspection, say authorities
CHUKAI, Aug 15 — The 'ghost ship' appears to be risk-free as no hazardous chemicals or human remains were found in the abandoned hulk that drifted into the waters of Semangkok A oil platform in Terengganu, said Kemaman Maritime Zone director, Maritime Commander Abdul Halim Hamzah. He said 17 members of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department's (JBPM) Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) Special Team and three officers from the Malaysian Marine Department (JLM) of Terengganu were involved in an hour-long inspection on three levels of the 53.7-metre (m)-long and 10m wide ship at the Kemaman Supply Base (KSB) today. He said the fire department had used two types of high-tech equipment, Four-Gas Meter (FGM) and Gasmet (gas analyser), to detect the presence of any hazardous materials or gases in the ship. 'The Hazmat team used high-tech advanced equipment to detect any readings from hazardous chemicals or gases on all three levels of the ship. 'The area was found to be safe, with no signs or presence of human remains. Initially, there was an unpleasant odour, but upon inspection it was traced to raw materials in the refrigerator,' he told a press conference at the Kemaman Maritime Zone here today. In addition, the MMEA team would conduct regular patrols around the ship's area to prevent trespassing. 'The 293-tonne ship will be handed over to the JLM for further action,' he said. Earlier, the ghost ship was towed (some 140 nautical miles) to KSB here at about 11.30 am before the safety inspection by a JBPM-JLM team was conducted at 3.30 pm. According to MMEA, the ghost ship was first spotted on Aug 12. According to media reports earlier, the Pahang MMEA said the ghost ship is believed to be an oil tanker which caught fire off Tanjung Sedili Kecil, off the Johor coast on Aug 7, where one crew member died, with four others injured. — Bernama

20 RAMD military exercises in Sungai Nakat from Aug 26 to Sept 2
MIRI: The 20th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment (20 RAMD) from Sri Miri Camp will hold three major military exercises in Sungai Nakat, Bakong. The first exercise, Pasak Bumi Exercise (EPB) Series 2/2025, runs from August 26 to September 2 with 170 officers and personnel. This drill follows the Counter-Insurgency Warfare (CIW) concept, featuring a 40-kilometre tactical navigation movement over 10 days. Activities include base establishment, communications handling, immediate action drills, ambushes, and assaults on enemy camps. The second exercise, MALBRU SETIA Exercise Series 17/2025, involves collaboration with the Royal Brunei Land Force from September 11 to 16. The third drill, Mertak Bersatu Exercise Series 15/2025, will take place in Kota Belud, Sabah. These exercises adopt the CIW concept, engaging 300 officers and personnel over six days.
