UFC on ESPN 70 gets Chris Curtis, Jake Matthews among other Nashville fight card additions
The UFC's seventh visit to Nashville, Tenn. is taking shape.
Three new bouts have been added to UFC on ESPN 70 including Jake Matthews vs. Chidi Njokuani, Max Griffin vs. Chris Curtis, and Junior Tafa vs. Ateba Gautier. The promotion announced the news Tuesday.
UFC on ESPN 70 takes place July 12 at the Bridgestone Arena and is headlined by a heavyweight bout between former title challenger Derrick Lewis against undefeated prospect Tallison Teixeira.
Njokuani (25-10 MMA, 5-3 UFC) looks to build on his 3-0 run since he dropped back down to welterweight. Meanwhile, Matthews (21-7 MMA, 14-7 UFC), a veteran of the weight class, looks to get his own 3-0 run, as he's coming off back-to-back decision wins over Phil Rowe and Francisco Prado.
Additionally, Max Griffin welcomes Chris Curtis back to welterweight. Curtis (31-12 MMA, 5-4 UFC), who's competed all of his 10 UFC fights at 185 pounds, will be making his promotional welterweight debut. He looks to snap a two-fight losing skid now in a new division. "Pain" Griffin is 2-2 in his past four trips to the octagon, with his most recent one being a submission loss to Michael Chiesa in December at UFC 310.
Lastly, Tafa (6-3 MMA, 2-3 UFC) will also be trying out a new weight class – light heavyweight. He takes on Gautier (7-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC), who's coming off a devastating KO win in his debut fight against Jose Medina in Mexico City in March.

Alvin Hines, a Minnesota-born heavyweight who entered the UFC with an undefeated record on the regional circuit, has been handed a one-year suspension after testing positive for multiple banned substances. According to Hines' samples contained Drostanolone (muscle hardening and strength), its metabolite 3a-Hydroxy-2a-methyl-5a-androstan-17-one (extended anabolic effect), testosterone metabolites (increased recovery and power), and a Tamoxifen metabolite, 3-Hydroxy-4-methoxytamoxifen (post-cycle masking agent). All three substances are prohibited by the UFC Anti-Doping Program without exception. There doesn't appear to be much of a dispute about the validity of the tests finding. Hines didn't just pop after his lone fight in the UFC. The 33-year-old tested positive on three separate occasions: out-of-competition in Minnesota, in-competition in Las Vegas, and again out-of-competition in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. The evidence suggested that his use of these substances predated his UFC signing, though he failed to disclose them during the onboarding process. Hines aka Goozie made his UFC debut on June 28 at UFC 317 in Las Vegas, dropping a fight to Jhonata Diniz. Despite the loss in the fight–which he took on short notice after beginning his career 7-0–he showed toughness and a fan-friendly style. There were signs and potential for Hines to carve out a place in a heavyweight division hungry for fresh contenders. That momentum is now paused. UFC CEO Dana White has a lot of irons in the fire, but he can't be thrilled about this news considering the promotion is seemingly doing their best to refresh the heavyweight division with new, younger and exciting fighters. Hines would have fit the bill–even without elite talent–but this development changes things. Hines fully cooperated with the Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD) investigation, providing details of his prior use and his belief that the substances would have cleared his system before he signed with the promotion. Testing concentrations were consistent with the tail end of excretion, supporting his explanation. Still, the timing and the fact that Hines cheated at all is a major setback. What should have been the start of a promising run in the UFC is now muddied by a one-year absence and the nasty stigma of a doping case. For a new fighter–especially one who has yet to cash in on their talents–losing a full year of competition is damaging not only to development but also to credibility within the promotion and with the fanbase. As great as we all know TJ Dillashaw was, there's a cloud that hangs over his career because he popped for unmistakable usages of performance-enhancing drugs. Hines' suspension officially began on July 11, 2025, the date Hines was provisionally suspended. The Nevada State Athletic Commission, which oversaw his UFC 317 bout where he tested positive in-competition, also retains jurisdiction and will issue a separate ruling. CSAD oversees the UFC's year-round anti-doping program, with collections conducted by Drug Free Sport International and testing handled by the WADA-accredited Sports Medicine Research and Testing Laboratory in Salt Lake City. UFC 319 loses Battle, cancels tomorrow's fight after early-morning weigh ins disaster
A lot of people were focused on Khamzat Chimaev, which is why matchmakers hired a backup fighter for the UFC 319 main event. Meanwhile, Bryan Battle missed weight by four pounds, yet again, for his middleweight showdown against Nursulton Ruziboev on Sat. night (Aug. 16, 2025) at United Center in Chicago. Needless to say, Ruziboev — who weighed in at 186 pounds — was not happy. 'Instead of talking too much, you need to make the weight first,' Ruziboev wrote on Instagram. 'This a professional sport blondie.' In a move not unlike the old Johny Hendricks days, Battle moved up a division after blowing up the scale at welterweight, though it didn't seem to matter once 'The Butcher' clocked in at 190 pounds. 2025 PFL World Tournament 9 results: Liz Carmouche wins final, calls out Dakota Ditcheva
Liz Carmouche is not slowing down. Despite turning 41 earlier this year, Carmouche (25-8) is still adding records and titles to her already impressive resume. Carmouche won the 2025 PFL women's flyweight tournament this Friday in the co-main event of 2025 PFL World Tournament 9 at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C. She scored a TKO victory over Jena Bishop (9-3) at the 2:56 mark of Round 3 of their championship fight. On top of taking the 2025 PFL women's flyweight tournament title, Carmouche receives a $500,000 prize for her tournament win. Although the momentum appeared to be on Carmouche's side though the majority of the fight, "Girl-Rilla" had to work hard for her big win. It appeared she edged out Bishop in a close first round, and then found herself in trouble in the second, surviving several close submission attempts from Bishop. In Round 3, that's where the magic happened for Carmouche. She connected a brutal, counter left hook on Bishop's shin, dropped her, and then followed up with a few shots on the ground to close out the show. After the fight, in her post-fight interview, Carmouche called for the opening of the a women's bantamweight division in the PFL and a fight with PFL star and 2024 tournament champion Dakota Ditcheva. "I would love to do a super fight at 135 (pounds), and get that division in here and headline," Carmouche said. "I think that would be amazing. I think when Dakota is healthy, I would love to get a chance to fight Dakota." With this win, Carmouche finds herself on a three-fight winning streak and 12-1 since leaving the UFC in 2020. This latest feat adds to Carmouche's impressive resume. She's a former two-time UFC title challenger, was the last Bellator women's flyweight champion – a title she defended three times, and is now a PFL tournament winner.
